So since playing Halo Infinite I’ve noticed alot of similarities with Ghost Recon Wildlands open world experience.
- Open world with different sections sprawling with objectives that upgrade your capabilities and AI allies
-“Valor” (term used in both games) is obtained through capturing FOB’s (or Rebel Bases in GRW) and when earned gives your AI allies (Rebels/Marines) more combat capability - Player enhancments can be earned through Skillpoints (Spartan Cores) and even have similar symbols
- Enemy Targets/Bosses scattered throughout map and in linear missions
-Player free to attack objective from any direction
I will say that GRW did it better by making linear missions replayable even when the game is finished.
That all being said as someone who has played games from both franchises I’ve always wanted a Ghost Recon game but with Halo. GRW is a 3rd person game that switches to first person when aiming down sight and you have freedom of movement from laying prone, sprinting, jumping, ducking behind cover and being able to fire from it, firing from a zoomed in third person perspective then a first person if you aim down sights. That playstyle combined with both open world and linear experiences spanning locations throughout the Halo universe. In past games such as Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1-2 you controlled not only your four member squad armed with varying weaponry but your allied support as well including Drones, Tanks, APC’s, Helicopters and even other infantry units. On top of that GRW lets you customize yourself down to the tiniest detail along with EVERY MEMBER OF YOUR SQUAD.
Along with that GRW also introduced GUNSMITH to FULLY customize your weapons.
You also had access to Silencers to introduce stealth mechanics as well as a group shot takedown system where all members of your squad would take a shot at an enemy at the same time. Your team could be placed into a Stealth mode (fire when fired upon only with silencers) or Attack mode (guns blazing shoot on sight)
Now imagine a game sprawling multiple places across the Halo Universe (Earth, Reach, Sigma Octanus IV, The Ark, Halo installations, Requiem, Arcadia) with some of the biggest battles where you go in with your group of four fully customizable Spartans with selected weaponry being able to see your character in action and being fully integrated with the UNSC helping you with allied support from Marines, ODST’s, Hornets, Scorpions, Warthogs, Ships in orbit with MAC’s and Archer Missles! Just either an all out brawl with the Covenant or sneaking behind enemy lines using the stealth mechanics and active camo. Completing objectives like setting off HAVOC nukes to slow Covenant advances or taking out targets of high value etc. You could even integrate working with crews from ships like the Spirit of Fire, The Infinity, The Pillar of Autumn, In Amber Clad and have units + weapons that are specific to that ship and time period.
I feel there’s an experience outside the current Halo games that has yet to be tapped into.
