I wish I could click a button on here that would wash people’s mouth out with soap. You have to be an adult to buy any of the Halo games, yet you don’t to speak on a message-board. Seriously, how hard is it to talk on here without using vulgarity? I can understand if someone feels passionately about something, like if they just drop a hammer on their foot and yell out a random vulgarity. But adults, on a message-board, aren’t we all better than this?
I’m terrible at interpreting the context clues in and of a sentence. I constantly wonder which word got taken out and replaced with, ‘-Yoink-’. To sum it up, I’m mildly offended at people’s lack of control on how they speak on here, yet I’m very nosy… I mean curious. Curious to know what’s been said. Again, I wish I could click a button on here that would wash people’s mouth out with soap.

Yes, I’m with you, I think the forum is getting real boring with all those topics and coments saying, “-yoink 343” this games is “yoinked”…

It’s not so much as being “whipped”, it’s just not saying rude words. In theory we all should be adults here, yet the language that everyone uses suggest that we’re quite the opposite. If us adults can’t do that, we’ve messed up…

Halo fans consist of a vast variety of people. It couldn’t be that easy simply because of what game someone played. A great community we are, at times, but can turn just as vulgar as any other community.

If the language here offends you, maybe you shouldn’t come here? Free speech in USA. I am not promoting vulgarity, but we do have the right to use it. I am with you though on my confusion for why a forum for an M rated game censors swears.
That’s just one of the downfalls of anonymity. I don’t think that any adult would dare to use profane language in their professional work environment without fear of being reported to their supervisor. I personally have never understood the use for profanity filters on web forums. If its against the rules to swear, why not just ban the offenders instead of censoring what has been said? Either that or do not make it against the ToS to use profanity.
A person using swear words does not make them immature in the slightest, or any less an adult. I use swear words here and there, but only when i’m frustrated, or really trying to emphasise something. Thats just how i am. Also, a lot of words that are filtered really aren’t that extreme. E.g. the word “-Yoink!-” (when put together) is worthy of being filtered on this forum, because apparently, its extreme language.
People curse/swear OP. it’s not the people who swear that need to grow up, it’s the hyper sensitive people that can’t handle a bad word or 2 that need to grow up. Whats the difference between typing “what the -Yoink-” and “WTF”??
I still can’t believe that we live in an age where words are “bad”… They’re are words, period. It’s 2014 people. I just see it as a form of social conditioning that you would get so upset over words. You worry about words when one of the most memorable things that came from Halo 2 was “teabagging”. Do you know what that even means? Does it offend it.
Do phrases like “You suck” offend you too? Do you ever say any negative phrases or words that don’t have said “bad” words in them? If so, you are just replacing “curse” words with other words deemed not so bad by society.

Don’t necessarily lump everyone together. I’m 26, have my bachelors and a career as a software developer, own my own house and am married. My boss says the “F” word on a daily basis. I very much consider myself an adult and have no qualms about saying any word in my vocabulary or combining words to make new words.
People teach their kids that words have meaning. Society tells kids that certain words are “cuss” words. That’s ridiculous.
Anyways, OP, the world is full of language you probably find offensive. Better prepare yourself.
The reason there is censoring is because although the game is rated “M”, have any of you actually played it? I started playing Halo when I was 13 and never stopped. The same is true today with parents buying their kids “M” games. Those kids come onto these forums. There is no age restriction on making a forum account and you could just lie about your age if there was.
I don’t really have a problem with profanity (I’ve always considered the notion that it exists at all to be puerile and pointless at best), but I think the more salient issue is the behavior that accompanies it. i.e. Raging like petulant children and pretending that’s how reasonable adults behave. It’s an issue of tone. Swearing is fine (and I find the censorship here a bit hilarious, honestly), but don’t be a -Yoink-.
for me it depends on how much you use said ‘bad’ words if you use one every other word then yeah that’s a bit much. Also it depends on what behavior accompanies it if the person does not behave like a child afterwards I have no problem with that. I often drop the f-bomb but do not accompany it with foul behavior. If speech offends you that’s your problem.
Only thing worse than being a part of a community is curse obsessively is drawing attention to them in a thread like this. The only way to diminish it is to go about your day and ignore it. If you complain about people complaining and being rude on the internet, you might as well save your breath.
