343s washington post interview

It amazes me how much worse they make things when they finally communicate.

  • Joe says that it’s important for us (the fans) to be able to rely on what they (343) say, however that’s the complete opposite of how they approach things. When we give feedback we’re met with force. When we give feedback it gets thrown back into our face and 343 essentially says “it’s our game, eff off.”

  • Bonnie Ross talks about changing Halo’s blockbuster image yet that’s the core identity of Halo. Halo is KNOWN for being these blockbusters that come out every handful of years, so the fact that they felt the need to change that tells me that they don’t know Halo.

  • Sure, COVID came out and set the world on fire, but that should be a sign then to step back and take as much time as you need. Even if Microsoft was breathing down their neck, they should have stood up and explained that they need more time. Or hell, we don’t know what went on, it could’ve been 343 wanting to rush it out the door, but if that’s the case then 343 clearly aren’t fit to make these games anymore.

I’m sorry but 343 has lost me. I genuinely don’t care what good things may come in Season 2, I’m out. I have the game installed on my Desktop but I never have a desire to launch it.

She also stated it was the fanbase holding Halo back. Aka she hates us fans…

343 are turning into Blizzard and EA.

I feel that would’ve worked if MCC, 5 and Infinite didn’t launch in such poor tastes, yes there are other games out there but in some cases none can offer the experiences that Halo is capable of offering.

She did not however say that. She said that they won’t be able to get Halo where they want it to go, if the fans aren’t on board. And it then goes on to state why it is the fans aren’t on board (citing mainly the lack of updates to Infinite following a rather good reception at launch).

They Just want to gain fame from taking halo and making it a trillion dollar franchise and bragging about being a woman with it lmao she does not care for halo and she even said it in the interview

Super cringe that you keep claiming any of this is because she’s a woman.

This article is meaningless PR. We’ve seen their communication (when they choose to communicate at all). It goes something like this:

Community: “343, we don’t like this thing about Halo Infinite, it’s bad and you should change/fix it.”

343:Ahktually, let us explain this thing. If you peasants understood this thing, you would know why this thing is good and we are amazing

Community:sigh… guess we’ll go play Elden Ring… call us when you fix your game

This has been true for desync, the ranked modes, skill based matchmaking, player collision, BTB balancing, cheat detection, the challenge system, the cosmetic system, etc.

The problem with 343 is not their communication or lack thereof. The problem with 343 is that they are run by management who are unwilling to accept critical feedback from their players when that feedback concerns their core game design decisions. They are arrogant and incompetent and no amount of communication will help that.

In general, most of the customization content is relatively cheap to produce both in terms of developer resources and time. In general, the process is simply to construct models and add them to a list, something that either takes no or only a small amount of time for the engineers and the QA-team. In addition to that due to the simplicity of the process, there isn’t much that may go wrong.

Gotta source for that?

I mean, the Washington Post article this thread is about states that the fanbase is a threat to the success of Halo…

But as Ross notes, even as 343 shoots for the stars of a “universe,” it has to reckon with several factors that threaten to keep it grounded, including those aforementioned fans.

This is consistent with 343’s general antagonistic behavior toward its core fanbase and their feedback over the past 10 years.

To be honest, I think people are making too much out of the below quote:

But as Ross notes, even as 343 shoots for the stars of a “universe,” it has to reckon with several factors that threaten to keep it grounded, including those aforementioned fans . Even after a rousing reception for “Halo Infinite” when it released in November, players have voiced frustrations at a lack of updates and promised new content.

IMO, this reads as “343’s ambitions will fail if they can’t please the fans, who are currently upset”, which is accurate. I really don’t think this is intended as “Fans are holding us back”, but rather an acknowledgement that they need to fix things in order to achieve their goals.

The way it’s worded in the article is gaslighting to shift the blame/responsibility away from 343 to the fanbase.

The problem isn’t that 343 is incompetent and frequently make terrible decisions, you see. The problem is that the fans have brutal expectations.

I disagree that they’re gaslighting or shifting blame in that article. They know they have things to fix.

Honestly I think it’s time I dusted off Apex and maybe even warzone.

They’ve tried. Fans are too ignorant and immature to handle a single grain of salt.

Don’t see how insulting them is supposed to make any difference.

The fans are right to be angry sbout the state Halo is in. However, people have been going off over trivial things as of late.

Such as devs liking tweets and out of context quotes. If people really want to make a statement, they’d quit playing the game and try something else until Halo shapes up.

Coming on here and ranting doesn’t help. Harassing devs doesn’t help. People say they do this because they love the game and want to see it do well. If that’s so, learn when to let it go.

Nothing but excuses and 343 talking themselves up…

well if they aren’t going off trivial stuff, there isn’t anything new to go off on, positive or negative!

I dont think expecting core features, and an actual live service to be brutal expectations. Thats the bare minimum. If 343 didnt want these “brutal” expectations, then they shouldnt have made the game a live service.

Shocking how little people are talking about this. The automatic closing of issues on halo support is really weird.
