343s washington post interview

Heres the source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/sports/launcher/why-halo-infinite-missed-the-xbox-series-x-launch-title-release-date-dev-interview/2022/03/24/c86813f9-ac2d-4c13-9249-7dfef3c0ef20_video.html

Joe and Sketch both state that they want to be transparent and give meaningful communication to the fans about HI, yet every time they post a blog post, its just devs saying why the fans are wrong. Interesting yet irrelevent talks about how some behind the scene systems work. And no real answers to the questions fans have, just vague statements.

Most fans just want honest answers, with sincere responses. We want to trust you 343, we want to know you are willing to fix the game to make it something that fans can enjoy.

Also in the interview Sketch states that he dosnt shy away from harsh feedback, and that a passionate fanbase is better then an apathetic one.

Im sorry to say, but you have already reached the point of apathy. Most fans dont care anymore, they just see Halo as a once was game franchise, i personality am on the cusp of apathy. I havent played HI since the last event, and even then I only played it enough to get the weekly challenges. Halo used to be my go to MP game. I would spend hours a day in customs, BTB MP, action sack. In H5 i played the crap out of custom browser with infection variants.

It takes more then a minute to match into a BTB match in HI, this dosnt even happen on MCC.

343, the fans are aleady apathetic. Its time to communicate, good or bad, fans just want communication.

Heartfelt communication.

~ From a sad, and tired Halo fan.

This video just proves that Infinite should have been delayed again till November 2022. I would rather have a playable and more complete product over a unplayable game that just makes me angry at every single turn.

Also it’s pretty easy to see Studio Head Bonnie Ross is completely out of touch with the fan base. Under no circumstances did Halo 5’s multiplayer meet expectations. Not even close.

Unfortunately I think we’re reaping the whirlwind of F2P somewhat as well. A lot of players with very little investment in the franchise can make a lot of noise and drown out meaningful discussion - jist look at the growth of r/halo since November. Very few meaningful conversations can happen between devs and players due to the amount of toxicity on all platforms.

Unfortunately in that environment it’s all too easy to go into siege mentality and reject even the most constructive criticism.

As someone who works in a very similar dynamic (staff/student relations in Higher Education) unfortunately this cycle is all too easy to get into and all too hard to break out of.

Which they are. Fans are wrong most of the time, like 99%. They do give real answers to questions with not many if any vague statements.

  • Halo CE Demo Disc Player from 2000.

Fans right now who are complaining are just shooting themselves in the foot and blaming 343 for their own thoughts.

Bonnie Ross/343i screws up over and over and over and not only doesn’t rectify things and take responsibility - they blame the hardcore fans, when we’re the loyal ones who actually care and bother to spend the time and energy explaining to them how to do things and stop screwing up. Amazing.

She did not blame you.

You’re taking it the wrong way. I saw the article and it’s a silly thing to get mad over.

It was a quote taken out of context.

But as Ross notes, even as 343 shoots for the stars of a “universe,” it has to reckon with several factors that threaten to keep it grounded, including those aforementioned fans. Even after a rousing reception for “Halo Infinite” when it released in November, players have voiced frustrations at a lack of updates and promised new content.

Exactly. We are to blame. We threaten 343i and the IP by wanting to ground them, we hold them back.

I feel like how those parents must’ve felt, the ones who raised that incel kid who sued them for making him move out and get a job lol.

Okay, Bonnie. You go ahead and do what you think is right. Let’s see how that works out.

P.S. Duuuuh it’s like -Yoink!- you know when you see it duuuuuuh. Shutup Frank.

You even realize that Bonnie did not directly state this?

This is what bonnie actually said:

I think it’s a huge opportunity for us being able to go off console and think about a broader audience,

This next quote is not surrounded by quotation marks. This is the author summarizing what Bonnie is saying or meant to say.

Can we as a community actually read the posts before we go off? The same -Yoink- happened with the TV shiw quote and now everyone can’t stop passing around that stupid quote.

Remember when the fanbase was split into two groups?

The people that were absolutely positive that Infinite needed another delay because it was showing all of the signs of development hell, and the second group that kept telling us “Release it now because there are people that want to play it! If you want to wait for co-op, custom browsers, and forge then play it a year from now!”

And now the game’s almost dead because there’s no content… just like the first group predicted…
Good times. Good times.

“But as Ross notes” meaning this is what she thinks/said.

“Rose notes” is referring to the previous quote.

No, that is incorrect. I’m a native English speaker I understand how English works lol.

I didn’t say you weren’t a native english speaker?

They already ended the paragraph with the second parentheses. That’s where the quote ends.

The rest is summarized.

I didn’t say you said I’m not an English speaker. I’m saying I have a better grasp of the English language at this moment in time.

You are wrong. You don’t care that you’re wrong. Okay. Well, there’s no point having an argument just going around in circles. Agree to disagree.

Yeah, and in the end the game launched in an even worse state than it looked.

343 doesn’t do transparency, they just tell you some of the worst things that’re about to be unleashed.

Irrelevant.

And a lot of the posts while addressing some concerns often have some tongue-in-cheek behind them or have a snarky way of dismissing actual problems.

It would be good if they held some form of Q&A and actually had a meaningful interaction with the fanbase.

I uninstalled Halo Infinite this week on my Xbox.

I had hopes that 343 Support e-mails might be indicating things would improve, but each one I received is just an automated reply that nothing I reported has been fixed, they have no idea if it ever will be fixed and they will close my issue in 30 days unless I respond, because not responding means it’s been fixed, in 343 land.

The game is dead, 343 simply doesn’t care and their new focus is “Making Movies”, not quality games.

I’ve been saying it for years; 343 does not know how to communicate with players or plan out for the future, they only know how to communicate with investors and executives while marketing concepts that would normally be tossed out in practice as bad ideas.

Players are 100% right the current ranking and matchmaking system is broken and unfun. Fans are 100% right that the lack of gamemodes, playlists, maps, and customization freedom is not fun, rewarding or fair. Fans actual usually know what they want. And when they are told they dont know what they want. They tend to not stick around long.
