Hearing the news of the ranking system on the live stream, I must say I am thoroughly dissappointed. My heart just drops with this news. Where to start… First off I think that this will cause many many people and potential buyers to ignore this game now. 343 I must say I thought you had been doing such a fantastic job up until now. I do not understand how after months and months of competitive players asking for a visual ranking system you just ignore them. Halo 3 was successful because it was a competitive game. You say you do not want people to just focus on rank but that is why I played. I played to be the very best. I strived to win again and again and increase my skill level until I got my 50 and could say that I was at the top tier of halo 3 gaming. I HATE how all the playlists are now “skilled competitively” as well, this takes all the fun away. I also enjoyed my warm up games in social and dominating other new players (no offence to them) and gettign insane killstreaks and sick plays as well. You are taking out the fun of each aspect. Having a VISUAL ranked system by skill is the thing that will make or break this game for the competitive community. I want to know where I fit In and who I am better than and who is better than me, because that is what makes the game fun. Without this ranking system, this game will not be competitive whatsoever, I will hop on for a game every now and then for fun, then realizing there is no point to it I will get off. I hate the COD style and Reach style progression system with a passion, because while I am an incredibly skilled halo player, I dont play enough to reach that high rank and even if I did it would mean absolutely nothing except that I played alot and put time into it. Where is this skill-based aspect that made H2 and H3 so addicting and successful. While I will still get the game, ( although I know many people will now cancel their preorders and change their mind about buying it), i know I will only play it for so long… I have to say… I am so incredibly let down by this news and it is heartbreaking that my favorite game is going to be so unpopular with the competitive community. I just dont understand… we asked for 1-50 for so long, and WE STILL WANTED RANKED AND SOCIAL playlists, why did you ignore us all? why? You repeatedly said and I quote “We are listening and hearing what the community wants” apparently not 343. Because this literally ruined my day. And to those people saying im not a true halo fan. I LOVE HALO, just sad to see that it will have no place in mlg or in my xbox 360’s disc tray for very long. Thanks 343.

First World Problems
all these people coming to these threads calling us whiners for something that has been talked about on these threads and others since the game was announced and was also promised by 343. I wonder how you would all react if your progression rank was invisible.
Did I say halo 4 was ruined forever? No. I think it will be a fantastic game. I am stating that the game will not have that addictive enjoyment that Halo 3 had for me and for the rest of the MLG/ Competitive community. And therefore it will miss a large portion of its online population due to this reason. And am I “crying” over it, why dont you troll elsewhere because I am looking for other peoples real opinions on this decision by 343 and how it will impact the popularity of the game. Please dont bash my opinions because I dont bash yours. I respect all the people on the forums but I would like this post and this thread to be a productive one. Thankyou
I agree with you man. I get a good feeling when I rank up a level. Now I won’t get any enjoyment, and will not even want to know all the little tricks about the game that set my knowledge above others because really… whats the incentive ??
Yeah I know exactly what you mean, There is a certain elation I felt when I finally got my 50 on halo 3, to know that I had mastered the aspect and come so far in terms of skill. Dont get me wrong, ill enjoy the game for fun every now and then, but that strive to be the very best is just gone, not to mention without a mlg ranked playlist, how is it possible for new players to enter mlg without even knowing if they are good enough. This will hurt the mlg community bigtime.

Funny you answered your own issue right there…There is no point to online rank, just the same for social gaming in that it’s all pointless and just entertainment.
If you can’t find a game entertaining just because of some little number next to your name then I suggest you never really found said game that entertaining anyhow.
If you really want to test your mettle than go to LAN tournaments or MLG events. That’s the only place rank really means anything.
A) you took that out of context, I stated that because I will not be playing competitively or striving to be at the top I will get off because for me, I enjoy games by being competitive. There is a massive point to online rank, It allows players, who want to be competitive, to do just that. To play towards being the best. It has nothing to do with a number next to your name at all… it has to do with knowing how you compare with other players and how skilled you are compared to the rest of the community. Some people can just find a game fun and others have to have something more. I need something more. And I will not attend Lans or MLG events because I am neither skilled enough to be a pro and to not have the time to invest into a videogame, that being said, it is still a blast to be that skilled online warrior.
