343's Response to Warzone Boss Steals

Kevin Franklin (Multiplayer Design Director) has recently tweeted responses to the complaints about people “stealing” a Warzone boss with a final shot.

His position was similar to those defending it. If you don’t send out people to take out those trying to get the last shot or have power weapons ready to whittle his health down, then the boss points are fair game.

I’m not worthy of links, so here’s a copy/paste: https://mobile.twitter.com/kevin_franklin?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

Seems fair. Rewards teamwork/strategery vs COD kiddies running around trying to get most kills.

Well any respect for him will be lost here soon, it seems far more people want a change then those who are happy with it. Well at least those who are happy with the boss steals aren’t saying much.

Seems fair enough. Helps to work on timing too if you’re in the hunt to end the boss; make the last shot count!

unless your team focusing a boss and one guy on the other spawns a sniper or Spartan laser and blast him from out of veiw

this place is full of complainers and nostalgia mongers, it’s fine the way it is

Yep, its working as intended.

youre telling me that you haven’t seen all of the “I LOVE THE WARZONE BOSS SYETEM THREADS!” that arfe on this forum?

oh… you know what - those people are probably all playing warzone, instead of pouting around on here.
just because you see people complaining on here, doesn’t mean there are MORE people who dislike the system.

HERE is the link in the original post btw.

One broken link, so i’d fix that but after so many frustrating games the players found many others on here with the same complaint. Two being a -Yoink- and sarcastic doesn’t win an argument. Multiple solutions have been proposed and he just kinda went and said look you just need to kill the enemies trying to steal the kill, which sometimes isn’t as easy as it seems. Several of the legendary bosses are in what i’d consider neutral territory and therefor people can can sit back and just use one sniper round to finish them off while their team didn’t actually go after the boss. That is the main complaint here, and he just shrugged it off and more or less said he doesn’t care were not gonna change it.

The people I play with that complain don’t ever fight enemy Spartans at the end. So it’s basically 2 teams of 12 shooting at Warden and gives each team a 50% chance of winning. Then all of a sudden it’s “unfair” when their team doesn’t get the kill.

There have been plenty of games where a decent group of allies team shot the boss while the enemy is being killed or no in sight. They then wait til the one team doing all the work gets him weak then steals it with a sniper, laser or whatever means of getting the final blow. its stupid. they way they intended it is not what most people want and its pretty clear.

What fair would be rewarding the team who is actually doing most of the work/damage and then reward for the final killshot.

This is terrible. I was once playing a super tight warzone game, it was like 860-820 and I was winning. The fate of the entire match rested on one legend boss. Most of my team including myself were attacking the boss and the other team trying to take him. He is pretty much dead when the sound of two sniper shots echo through the air… Enemy team has eliminated a legendary boss… This needs fixing, at least give us an assist which is like 100 points, or give them a stolen kill for 75 points or something.

They stole the boss? Who cares it’s twenty five (sometimes higher) points that your team will get back thirty seconds from now. You want to know suffering? When the enemy steals the Siege monster in Smite.

My favorite idea was that for the legendary bosses 100 points are split between the teams based off damage and who ever gets the finally kill get the remaining 50 points. so if your team gets robbed and did 99 percent of the damage you still walk away with 99 point to the enemy teams 51 for just stealing it.

150 VP (15% of the total points) is definitely not something that can be evened out in 30 seconds. Especially since each Spartan kill is worth one point.

ummmmmmmm…you played warzone dude?

the game is basically won / lost on bosses

Why not split it as a 100 point grant to the team that did the most damage and 50 to the team that gets the final hit on him? If one team gets both, business as usual. But if one team does most of the work and an enemy gets a cheap shot in they aren’t -Yoink- on for their work?

I have yoinked the last shot plenty. I still think the value should be spread by contribution not just right place right time.

Can you people read?

Get over it. Unless you are on the same team and are literally hiding in the corner to wait to take the last shot who cares? I personally wouldn’t steal an obvious boss kill from a teammate but when people are unloading on a boss from every angle you really don’t have time to mess around. If I see a shot available and an enemy coming I am going to take it regardless of the situation as I am not willing to risk the enemy jumping in and getting the last shot.

Now insofar as what the enemy does, there are no boss steals. It is a smart tactic to hide and let the other team do all the work on a boss and then try to get the last shot. Bravo to you if you sneak in there and get it. If you are going for a boss it is your responsibility to pay attention to your surroundings and look for approaching enemies or hiding ones and for controlling and clearing the area.

Again the vocal majority is really the minority. Most people are playing the heck out of Warzone and having a blast. As long as the team wins I am happy. Heck even if we lose I am happy because I had a good time just playing. I almost always end up with more assists than kills in Warzone and that is by design. I am really good with the BR from distance and have no problem controlling a base and knocking down enemy shields while other guys go charging in and get the kill.

Warzone is all about adapting to the situation. Every game is unique and play styles are different. Sometimes charging in and racking up spartan kills is smart. Other times base/zone control is smart. Sometimes just focusing on locations where the Bosses are going to spawn is smart particularly if the enemy isn’t paying them enough attention.

Stop complaining and just have fun.
