343's Blitz Map 'Philosophy'

So the next Halo Wars 2 update is gonna be releasing soon, and one of the things announced to be a part of this update is 2 new Blitz map themes. Basically, the current single Blitz map we’re stuck with, Proving Grounds, is receiving 2 new variants that are exactly the same in terms of layout and gameplay, just that it’ll be re-skinned and made prettier.

This is apparently the developers’ current philosophy. They’ve essentially announced that they’re not ever planning on giving us new Blitz map layouts to experiment new tactics and play-styles on, and we’re gonna be permanently trapped with playing on Proving Grounds for the rest of Halo Wars 2’s lifespan. Thus I am wondering, what do people think about this idea? Feel free to share your thoughts about this here.

Frankly, for me, I am quite disappointed that it’s been so many content updates later since Halo Wars 2’s release, and they took this long to add new variety to the maps to Blitz. For the longest time, we’ve been stuck with the exact same single map we’ve all tried on the Beta! And now that they’ve finally decided to break the dreadful monotony of Blitz maps, all they’ve done is release a couple of re-skinned Proving Grounds maps! Their reasoning behind their ‘philosophy’ sounds legitimate enough, but for me I heartily disagree with it.

Maybe they should instead create new competitive, ranked Playlists where only Proving Grounds is available to be played on, thus preserving the idea they have of the “single fair playing arena” and then leave some other unranked Blitz Playlists where new map layouts are free to be played on. Yeah, fairness in a multiplayer RTS is good and all, but we as players also want gameplay to be fun, surprising and lively! Perhaps our Blitz matches are all extremely fair and balanced because of their map design philosophy, but we sure aren’t terribly excited about playing on the exact same map for every single match we play. Where’s the FUN in that?

Even if more maps were made, they still wouldn’t be very different from each other. There’s only so many ways to equally place three circles. Maybe put the ridges in different locations?

A good Idea would be to put B on a hill, that would be the ultimate map control point.

You could put them in a V or a diagonal line. It also doesn’t have to just be 3 points. There could be a slightly larger one with 4 points for 3v3.

Personally I wish they would have went with 3 maps one for each playlist with the different themes. A small one for 1v1 a medium one for 2v2 and a large one for 3v3. (obviously it would still be smaller then the normal maps)

So i guess I will continue to not play this game due to how stagnant what I thought my favorite mode would be.

At least it’s not dead on console. Since the April update where they made ranked obligatory in 2v2 (ranked in a pay to win mode, genius!) I can’t find players anymore. Not that it mathers too much, the fact that cards have no limits and that higher levels utterly destroys all strategy kinda broke the game for me. It became more of a “let’s try the new leader units and power” kind of thing for me.

Which is sad! I loved Blitz during the beta period when everybody was on the same level. But now I only would play a round of Blitz with UNSC after a long period of not using them anymore, just to warm up before getting into deathmatch basically. Oh well, there is skirmisher for that I guess!^^

DoTA only had 1 map, nobody seems to had a problem with that?

He makes a fair point but I still think 343 should release a free map that different and if it doesn’t work out remove it. Simple.

Why does it have to be only 3 points. Couldn’t it have different variants of blitz and have 4 or 5 capture points. Even with 3 points the map can still be symmetrical but have one base in blottom left and other in top right, just even out where the energy drops etc. Could also have 4 points, two at the top and two at the bottom with an energy mode to control in the middle for faster energy gain. Or even a garrison there. Could have 5 in a cross shape. Honestly the possibilities are endless but we will get nothing because the mode is used merely as a cash grab by 343. Not that it really bothers me anyway because it’s still pay to win so I’ll stay clear until something can be done to make it a fair mode. I honestly thought this would be the coolest mode before I got the game. There should be a competitive mode where the unit levels are capped. Then anybody can pay to get their units to the desired level if they want or just wait until they have their deck levelled up.

I never thought of having more points. The idea you came up with is pretty good. Shame you don’t work for 343.

let’s be -Yoinking!- honest…this a scam and money grab. simple as that. In 1990’s Warcraft 2 shipped with so many maps and a map editor. I could literally make 50 viable well designed blitz maps in a week if I had access to their map editor. Not to mention deathmatch maps especially with the cookie cutter design of the maps being almost the same setup. I mean really after years in development we get less than ten maps for DM and 1 -Yoinking!- map for blitz. It is 2017 right??? This is laughable at best. smh 343 and CA should be ashamed.

It really makes no sense why they would want to stick with the same map layout when there are just so many possibilities for the things they could add to future Blitz maps. And it is also quite confusing why they would listen to the complaints of many players out on the forums repeatedly requesting for new Blitz maps, and simply just release some re-skinned Proving Grounds. Didn’t the game developers hear us properly? We want new Blitz maps because the exact same tactics on the exact same map is boring, we don’t need new visual candy to look upon while we play the game!

As many have said countless times even before the new map themes were coming, without new map layouts Blitz is going to become really dead really fast.

To be fair, DoTA started as a map for another game, not to mentioned multiple maps have been experimented with by other MOBA’s.

The map’s in MoBA’s are also more complicated than Blit’z, with the forts in the lanes as well as mercenaries to hire. Combined with a wide array of champions, it creates a lot of different scenarios even with the same map.

Blitz on the other hand has a very basic map with 3 capture points and some resources dropped occasionally. Even with the ‘decks’ armies are pretty samey, it’s like having maybe 8 champions at most atm with just different gear sets.

Nice to know I guess, thanks for the info, but 50 is still too high of a grind fest honestly…

Hell! Level 6 basically maxes out units and even that feels like an eternity to get there already! C’mon! X’D Blitz with equally leveled cards is fun, but like this the mode is just a pay to win playlist that shouldn’t have any form of ranking what so ever imho.

Also this time around DLCs aren’t even free, so unlike H5 there is no cheap excuse for microtransactions in HW2!

It came to me recently that Blizt is more like a RT Hearthstone than a MOBA.

Ha, add some garrisons by the points and watch the tears flood the map.

Jk, I think a map where some points can only be accessed by infantry or vehicles could create a new tone for a blitz map, but from what I read in the update, it doesn’t look like we’re ready to enter the goofier side of halo yet.
