343Read this: understand why you must go back

The reason to go back to older forms (or devolve) is proven by the numbers. Look at the number of online Halo 3 users it was logging in a day. It was upwards of 300,000. Halo 4 is a fraction of that with 40,000. Look at the poll on that thread! (below) Right now it is 78% in agreement with what I originally posted!

https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst218061p3_343--Fix-your-game--Its-terrible--Advice.aspx

That is the reason to go back. The direction that they have taken is not cutting it and is not the best video game out there anymore.

The reason we keep posting this same critique is very very simple.

-In terms of users halo 3 was the peak of Halo’s success.

-Halo reach took a massive hit (just look at how bungie ended up having to make a MAJORRR change by getting rid of bloom over a year after the game had been created. At that point they had admitted defeat)

-Then Halo 4 took a massive hit.

-We now know that if Halo 5 is another let down the Halo series will essentially be dead! 50% of the most recent games will have absolutely failed in terms of the amount of users that they were able to maintain. 50% of the halo series was not able to establish the longevity that the earlier editions had. One of my friends who is the biggest halo fan I know, someone who used to log AT LEAST two hours a day with me after school on halo 3, said that he will consider not buying halo 5 if it is as much of a mess up as halo 4 and reach.

The fans know that if 343 pushes out another pop version of halo then they may never regain the community that we all loved! That is why they need to go back. Theyve gone off the rails and you have seen the reaction to that in the lack of support evident through the number of daily gamers Halo 4 amounts. Sure 40,000 people is still a hell of a lot and most other FPS’s would kill for that kind of community but the remaining users, as a fraction of what they once were, are either diehard Halo fans who refuse to give up, or 12 year old kids who enjoy flying 30 feet into the sky in order to railgun someone…

You need to realize that if the numbers keep dwindling at the rate that they are now, the matchmaking system that Bungie put in place that has been used ever since WILL NOT WORK!! Part of me thinks that the reason 343 wont put the CSR ranking in the game is because if they do, and people get matched with others who are around your CSR rank, 343 knows that IT WILL NOT WORK BECAUSE THE USERS ARENT THERE. And maybe there are just enough users but that doest mean it wont slow matchmaking down more than it already is.

What they are doing right now is broken, so the only logical step is go to back to what was working.

Fingers crossed 5 is a major comeback…

If Halo 5 is a let down and doesn’t bring fans back then it’s over.

> -Halo reach took a massive hit (just look at how bungie ended up having to make a MAJORRR change by getting rid of bloom over a year after the game had been created. At that point they had admitted defeat)

Bungie didn’t make that change, 343i made that change. It wasn’t a good choice as people were split on that decision which some people believing it was done poorly, ignored real issues with the game, and helped turn the game from what it was, and the other group that it was catered for who hated the game and had no intention of playing it soon after it was changed, especially once Halo 4 came out.

They didn’t admit defeat, they were planning on ending their contribution to the series once Reach was released and moved onto Destiny.

The “hit” the game had can be linked to many problems. Such as a much tougher competition, the mixed combination of gametypes within playlists, the obvious lack of regular updates in all forms of gametypes and maps, the increasingly negative and poisonous attitude of the community, etc.

Not to mention that X1 will have a teeeeny install base when Halo 5 comes out. They really need to impress, they can’t afford to do otherwise.

Your logic is flawed. Sadly halo will never have as big a population simply because it now has more competition. When halo 3 was out it was pretty much uncontested.

This, and OP you may want Halo to be a direct 2/3 clone but it may not be the best thing to do

Halo is still the best FPS by far. Online population means nothing. This game takes more skill then any of the competition period.

The install base for Halo 5 could be very small indeed, a few of us discussed this last week, look at Halo 4s’ population,

Since it dropped 343i have tried various things, but the population has gone, they cannot win back the players just now,

The install base for Halo 5 may be small, and 343i will be totally innocent,

It will be MSs’ fault, because of the negativity around the Xbox One, and if 343i have struggled to get the players back, so will MS.

Halo CE was leagues better then halo 3 in most ways.

But i’m sick of seeing threads like this. Halo doesn’t have to be one way or the other. We can make 2 areas for the population. One that features classic play and one that features the new. I Have been a fan since CE and while i don’t enjoy everything from halo 4 or reach i did like the direction it was going. No more or less then classic halo.

So we should have both.

Halo is still the best console FPS.

This is not true, and has been disproven numerous times. Halo 3 had competition from the very beginning, but because it was actually a good game, it destroyed the competition. Reach and 4 were not so good, so they didn’t do as well.

It still had less competition, CoD was not the gaming giant it is now, Halo 4 has to go against Black Ops 2 and such

It does when it comes to search times and fair matchups.

This thread is evidence enough that there is no reason to go back to what Halo was.

Some people want Halo 3.5, other people want something completely different, while some suggest a mix of old and new. No one can agree on one single vision of what Halo 5 should be but everything thinks they know what “true” Halo is.

Let 343i take all of our feedback and create a new game.

sorry for the link. i agree that 343 made a too big step away from halo. thinks must change but too much is too much.

it says on halo 3 sometimes that theres still 10,000 people playing on it at one time!!
halo 4 isnt anything like that so it does show!!

343 is literally too stupid. They can’t even comprehend their failure and since they don’t understand that their version of “halo” is complete -Yoink- they won’t fix it. Not that they have the brains to even if they did realize it.
