Let’s face it. Halo 4 at launch was not what we all hoped for. You guys even admitted it. Sure it was a decent game, but it wasn’t a great Halo game. However it seemed you guys listened to the community and delivered what we wanted. A true classic playlist, Forge Island, smaller maps. Even a promised TU. I thought you were doing great, but coming out of the dark to see the -Yoink- storm you left in your wake at GDC made me, and many others, regret ever thinking you guys truly cared.
So you guys are going to cater to an entirely different fanbase than the one which is the only reason you guys have this job right now? Had it not been for Halo’s competitive community Halo wouldn’t be as successful as it was when you guys took the reigns. The game market changed and now the competitive community, the fanbase that truly loves Halo, had nowhere to turn but Halo. We are a part of the blood of Halo. We play matchmaking, Campaign, Custom Games, Forge, Theater. Look at websites like Forgehub, 405th. These places were dedicated to Halo, the true fanbase. Now it seems we’re left in the dark.
It’s almost like a kid going to a school. He has a bunch of friends, a girlfriend who he loves dearly. He’s looking successful. His family is doing great economically, they have a good sum of money left over to do things they enjoy while still getting everything they need. Then his parents decide they’re going to move to a completely different state for a job that pays a little bit more, but isn’t looking like it will last as long as they hope. The kid gets no decision in this, despite being the most affected.
That is kind of how we feel. We had everything that was great about competitive Halo, but then 343 decides it wants to cater to a fanbase that enjoys an entirely different type of game. Dare I say, the CoD fanbase. Newsflash 343i, this fanbase hates Halo no matter what. They won’t play it even if it is the next Call of Duty game mislabeled Halo. As soon as they see H-A-L-O they look away. The ones that do play it play until the next big game comes out, and then all is left is the true fanbase. The ones that love Halo. But if you scare us away, give us nowhere to turn, then once the next big game comes out, and your “new fanbase” leaves for that. Halo will be a ghost town.
But I guess you don’t care right? You will still get your sales. As of now that really seems to be all you care about. You don’t love Halo like we love Halo, you love Halo because it is a cash cow that get’s milked and buys you stuff. Don’t put Halo in a cage and pull it’s utters until the milk turns sour and nobody wants to pay for it. Let it up to the fans that truly love Halo to play it until the day that it can finally relax and go to sleep for good. If you let Halo go to its true fans, it will die peacefully. Let it go to another fanbase, and it fill fall hard.
