343i Will Have a "Warm" Welcome at MLG Dallas

Halo 3 rank system is how players got better and MLG players kept sharp. They played MLG at the highest level in matchmaking to stay on their game. Now they can only practice in custom games pretty much. Not to say I wont play halo 4 but im looking at it from a pros POV and the replay value overall for pros and wanna be pros. 343 doesn’t know what they are getting their selves into when they go to MLG Dallas. That building will be full of hardcore competitive players ready to go for their throats for taking away the main thing they played for in Halo 3 (Trying to climb that MLG playlist ladder)

Thats like Disney going to a Star Wars Con a week after turning light sabers into magic wands lol They might not be too happy to see you…

Halo 3 was a launch pad for E Sports and now its CODs turn to take over the competitive scene I guess. The one argument Halo fans had for Halo VS COD was that COD wasn’t the main MLG event. Its a different ball game now folks…

I wish 343i the best of luck though, Ill always be a fan of halo just not like I used to be with 3.

I bet 343i is really scared of those competitive gamers.

dies of laughter

I didn’t even know cod was mlg until reading this lol. Want to know why? That’s because halo is still up there and not cod.

If the “competitive gamers” are willing to let themselves get that angry over ranking then I highly suggest they stop playing videogames altogether and go see a psychiatrist.

Seriously, it’s just a game.

I doubt anyone will be outright hostile towards them in person. They might drop hints and whatnot, but they know they need to be on 343i’s good side if they want to get catered to.

Ah Kaiser. I see, 6 months later, you’re still on that empathy train trying to understand your fellow gamer! good for you!

Lots of the pros make, or used to make when Halo was good competitively, $250K a year from contracts alone, and probably far more from sponsorships. They have every right to be angry.

So do more casual players. People like Halo, and they want Halo 4 to be good. 343 lead the community on for half a year saying they “have a ranking system for competitive players in store”, only to brush off a question, a week before the game comes out, saying that there is no visible skill based ranking system. When people want a game to have a basic feature, then they are told that feature isn’t in the game a week before launch, they have every right to be mad, because they care about Halo.

Personally, I think that no visible skill-based ranking system is a massive detriment. Much, much, more of a detriment to Halo than people realize.

I’m totally empathetic. I’m just saying that nothing bad in a videogame should make you angry enough to hurt someone…

…except Ninja Gaiden 3.

Please go away. You do not speak for the competitive community. Just because you and your 2 friends are mad doesn’t mean the rest of us will be.

slightly off topic but in reference to your disney comment, disney has owned marvel for a few years now and a little film called the avengers did well, very well indeed…coming from a deadpool fan who wept at the end of wolverine origins

You know i wouldn’t be surprised if some extremists in the competitive community going to Dallas planning on jumping Kevin Franklin and David Elis because of this ranked business. A lot of the word usage seems to indicate murderous vengeance; not just angst.

Still, i think they will do nothing but use verbal assaults. All talk, no walk. Anything more (like physical violence) and you can bet that it will have negative repercussions that could cause 343 to just ban the use of Halo 4 for competitive play in any capacity and regard them as a bunch of violent, self entitled gamers. It would also make MLG as a company look bad too and that’s a sure fire way to get the game dropped from the circuit.

I can’t wait to wait to start watching the streams though. It should be great seeing how really good players play Halo 4 ^.^

Yeah this guys seriously needs to go. I have been trying to avoid replying to him for months but it has reach a level of irritation that I can not hold. He needs to be physically displaced.

You realize that the ranking system will be as effective as Halo 3’s?

Competitive players will still be matched against others of their skill. They just won’t see their ranks. I can guarantee that MLG players don’t care much about rank, because they’re in to win. (Just to clarify, progression means nothing if you’re consistently at the top).

If you don’t win, you’re not as good as others. It’s as simple as that, and you don’t need numbers telling you. Especially numbers that an arbitrary number of people have (thus, not even able to distinguish between the “top” players anyway).

No, As much as I get irritated I quote you often when on the topic of “dumb ideas” when talking about waypointers.

See, look what happens, see even the moderators agree with us. The days of noncompetitive players talking trash and not getting flagged are over bud.

Thanks for the good laugh, I needed that.

Would both of you kindly knock it off, please? Take it to pm’s if you wish to argue.

This line of discussion is threading a very very thin line.
