I can’t be the only one that feels this way, can I? I’m not going to count Warzone maps because they’re specific to that game type, but half, or more, of the other maps are forge created maps. And now we know we’re getting four more forge maps next week. Why are they being so lazy? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for forge maps, but don’t we deserve some fully fleshed out maps that look better than something that could’ve been made last gen? I would’ve rather had less maps than we got if it had meant they would’ve been real maps.
Plus, if forge maps are going to be more and more a part of the game, can we have a separate playlist for them? One of the things I hated the most about Reach’s later days was how often I was forced to play a forge map. It got so bad that I almost never played the same map and so I never learned the maps.
Most of the maps in this game feel completely uninspired to me. They seem to have no personality and mostly feel like cheaply made forge maps. The community has long been able to produce better given the tools.
Also, am I crazy or do they all feel exactly the same size?
I feel the same, no maps make me look forward to getting into the game when I see their names in loading lobby. Maps in previous halos were better.
It seems like as new halo games are released they are constantly trying to release maps that are similar to those in other FPS games like cod.
if you put these halo maps in cod, it wouldn’t even make you question whether they are cod maps or not, because they would fit in perfectly.
I don’t know about them all feeling the same size, but I agree with you mostly. I really like the maps that aren’t obviously made with forge, but the others, like you said, lack personality and just seem extremely bland. I also failed to mention that on top of the forge maps, 4 of the maps(Eden, EmpIre, Truth, Regret) are all the same with slight differences. It’s just super lazy. How can they deliver this after what was done for the H2A maps?
Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the only Forge maps (BTB maps no included) Pegasus and Orion. Granted, Orion is one of the worst maps in Halo, period (seriously happy that they took it out of Slayer rotation) but Pegasus is…ok-ish. Heck in general I like all of the maps (aside from Orion, which as I stated is of the deepest pits of hell). I’d even say Plaza and Coliseum are some of the best maps in the series’ history (IMO).
As for maps size: yeah they are all kinda the same size since they all have to be tuned for 4v4 matches (or 12v12 in Warzone’s case).
Previous Halos had maps that had short stories, and felt like they had life to them. You could tell someone put in some time and hard work on them.

Go into custom games and look at the maps. Once you get pass the first few maps they’re either forge maps or the same maps with different forge variations.
Even the ones not made in forge have the same bases and “Blue Sneaky” parts. I’m not complaining because I really like the maps in this game, but it does feel like there has been a lot of copy and pasting for such a big game.
If your not counting Warzone your not counting something like 40% of the map development, especially considering it probably takes the dev work of two or three standard maps to make a single Warzone one.
Now I agree with you on the forge situation and how bad it is that 343i counts them in the 18 DLC map total, but getting developer created maps two weeks post-launch is a pipe dream unless they were working on them well before the launch itself (Were talking months before launch).
I think this little BTB update is designed to just hold us over until Forge and developer made maps are ready, and I’ve honestly always seen it as a little silly to complain about free stuff, so I’m content with what were getting for now.

Should we really get fewer maps of lesser quality because they wanted to spend more time on Warzone? I’m not complaining about maps being free, but I’d much rather pay the usual $15 per map pack price for real quality maps than get forge created maps or just different variations of the same maps.
I usually dont mind forge maps but the thing that bugs me is the hideous quality of the forge pieces. Reach for example had very nice looking textures (although the grey annoyed people after a while), and 1 console later we get this half–Yoinked!- -Yoink-. I played Reach from 2010 till 2014 and i love H5 but i think the state its in now wont keep me (and a lot of others) for long.

They don’t have a limitless number of people grinding out maps in a Chinese sweat shop. Warzone ate all the map development time and it shows. Warzone maps are so massive though that like 30% of them never get touched anyways. Complete waste.
However I 100% do NOT want paid map packs to return because they are a complete waste of money. It splits the game into the people who have vs those who don’t and even if you have the maps you barely get to play them. Free, mandatory map packs are the way to go.
I especially dislike Fathom, The Rig, and Plaza. YUCK! The fuel rod ruins Regret, as does the rockets on Coliseum.
Interesting that the Breakout maps are superior to every other map in this game. Too bad we’ll never get to play them in a Slayer playlist.

Yeah the breakout maps are more enjoyable than the slayer maps and there is less to them, not to mention the look of the breakout maps actually give the playlist a sense of competitive arena vibe

I agree with this but am hopeful that in a years time we will be playing with triple the amount of maps we have now.
