First off Halo has always been my game and always will be. I will buy 6 as I have all others and love playing 5 and MCC. I have played since H:CE on the original Xbox.
Now onto SPV3…
I love how this Mod works on the strengths of Halo: CE. Most of what I wanted in H5 was already present in H1 to H3 (and even ODST/Reach)
This post has some ideas that were present in the other games that SPV3 also has that I hope influence 343i.
How do you take something great, and make it even better? With Love, Imagination, and not having to completely re-invent everything.
Minor Spoilers Ahead:
Gameplay:
- Un-lockable decisions
- Interesting side paths
- Interesting customization of spartan abilities (FWIW I love H5’s abilities and wouldn’t mind them all staying - ground pound, charge, boost, etc.)
- Maps require decision making (multiple paths or even wrong paths)
- Aggressive enemies (probably my most favorite part of this mod)
Atmosphere:
- Music matches mood, combat of the situation (i.e not just grand, epic music playing with inconsequential game play in campaign of merely sprinting or smashing a button).
- Horrors of war (impaled marines by Brutes, blood from flood, covenant, and marines - unlike toned down version of H:CE Anniversary)
- Forerunner architecture is eye catching, and invites curiosity.
- Feels like a military shooter
- Interesting banter between Cortana and Chief was built upon
- Added some dialogue and characters from books set in era of original Halo event.
I hope Halo 6 and onward has one hell of a campaign.
I hope Halo 6 has a good campaign. However, I have feeling Halo 6 is going to be like Halo 5 and is going to be disappointing. This will be the last straw for me, if Halo 6 is like Halo 5.

I am not sure how they can pull a 180 regarding plot with whatever they setup for H6.Maybe H7 will have it set up better for the next trilogy? Or will Halo not even be there at that point seeing as that will take a decade. I am not sure.

For years we’ve said ‘it will be the last straw’… But will it really? (:
I’ve felt like this at times in the past, but I’ve come to realize I love the franchise too much and will be buying it in 2040 if it’s still around.
Those honour guards in SPV3 are the worst, and when you get an elite’s shield down and he bolts, or the various hunters which force you to really take advantage of your environment, the Jackal flood forms who pounce at you and explode, the subtle difference in the about of damage certain grunts can take… Dang it can be annoyingly good sometimes.
There is such a brilliant variety of AI in SPV3 and that is the primary thing I think anyone can get out of it. Each enemy is different and every time you come across a specific enemy unprepared you get that ‘Oh crap’ moment before which you inevitably die (and instantly respawn) which then gives you time to prepare and take the situation head on again. Despite being the same old Halo CE, the AI make the campaign feel so different and unfamiliar, especially in areas which are actually exactly the same as the original.
Meanwhile, in most recent games you are still following that pattern of charging in, aiming for the head to kill fast and continuing; and you get so good at it that it becomes frustrating when you do die. Crawlers should play differently to grunts. Knights should be scary and elites/soldiers need to be more than just fillers and should stand out from their grunty counterparts.
I will admit Halo 5s hunters (in the campaign) did have this scary different feel to them so I have to give credit where is due.
Feel free to use one of the wishlist threads if you’d like.
