Spartan Ops was a great idea to me from the beginning. My first run through I thought SpOps was something 343i actually did right…
But as I tried doing the encore run through, I began noticing the major flaws in gameplay.
First and foremost
Fuel Rod Elites just ruin my day
Sure one or two amongst a group yet these d-bags drop in groups sometimes and are just beyond irritating. Whoever thought “Oh yeah let’s soam them with Elites with overshields, who jump around, take cover excessively, and have fuel rod cannons with aimbots!”
No, fire that guy who “hates” halo…
SpOps forces the player to use long range weapons, mostly the DMR (honestly 343 stop obsessing with that gun) because any other weapon is obsolete because
- A grunt takes a full AR mag to kill
- Snipers are rather useless on Elites because one mag only breaks their shields, and once again they have aimbots and jump wayyyy to damn much.
SpOps is great for the cinematics, that was the main reason I played it. Yet Crimson, the best Spartan IV team on Infinity does… well Odd jobs. The missions we play have almost no impact on the story what so ever. Sure theres a nod to Crimson every now and them in the story cinematics but the no good Majestic progresses the story, not us. As crimson team I feel highly underrated. Palmer says we’re the “go-to” fireteam yet, we get stuck with pressing buttons while mowing down covies and promies.
SpOps should have the player feel like they are actually important, not just a cool fireteam. And please stop spamming us with loads of enemies, it makes a fun game frustrating, I have never heard of Firefight being as frustrating or bland as SpOps
343i please stop stepping backwards and get your feces together.
I feel like the only person that hasn’t had a problem with SpartanOps…
why do people complain about it so much?
And that’s just for Legendary. Spartan Ops is crap on any difficulty and any mode (especially Solo). Though not to the point that I’ll embrace Reach Firefight.
I disagree about the AR and sniper not being viable on enemies. When they’re in the right elements (i.e. sniper in sniper alley), they function well (until you get rushed by a dozen Elites).
Its fun with friends, but my overall opinion of it is that it can be so much better.
Also, people will complain about Spartan Ops like they would anyother part of the game. I have my complaints about it because I have high expectations for a Halo cooperative mode. While it delievers on its narrative, I feel that its gameplay needs work.
Some people complain about the enviornments, which I can understand their perspective (personally I don’t see whats there to complain about, the enviornements layout is usually different between missions, plus players play on the same maps all the time in multiplayer and in Firefight…but again, thats just my opinion of it).
Wow, I disagree with that entire original post.
In fact I play Spartan Ops more than I play Matchmaking.
Multiple days every week, I find it amazingly fun.
Episode seven was the best for me because of the different setting.
OP must be new to Legendary… These guys are a cake walk compared to old halo AI.
Pop in Halo 2, do a LASO run through.
Then you may complain how easy these elites are.
The problem with the AI in Halo 4 is that it isn’t all that good. The main problem for every type of enemy is that they aren’t aggressive; they don’t lay suppressing fire on your position when you retreat, they don’t move in to check to see if you’re shifted, they don’t pursue you if you retreat, and they won’t move up on you if you’re shooting with from a distance, which makes them easy targets, given the amount of long rifles in this game.
To compensate for the shortcomings, the SpOps designers decided to bump a heap of Elites up to Warrior class and to give them Fuel Rod Guns, in the hope that this would make things more difficult. Another tactic was to simply fit as many enemies into the missions as they could, in the hope that numbers would also make up for their failings. Of course, this results in the missions being dull as you slaughter your way through hundreds on enemies who don’t know how to fight, or frustrating as you’re blown away by enemies with overpowered shields.
I’d also say part of the problem could be the abundance of power weapons, in some situations. For example, the last battle in Chapter 7 pits you against 4 Hunters and an assortment of other enemies. This should be a fun challenge, but it’s made very easy by the fact that 1) there are plenty of rocket launchers and railguns about, with plenty of ammo, and 2) only the Grunts actually move to your position, the rest are content to sit back and let you blast them away with your heavy weapons.
I seriously hope, for Halo 5, that 343 take a good long look at the AI, and perform a massive overhaul on each and every one. They really need it.
That’s just your opinion, I happen to think it’s really fun. It’s a lot more laid back and relaxing than Matchmaking, and it gives me something to do when I get pissed of when I play Halo 4 imperfect online multiplayer. I wish they would get rid of Infinity slayer forever and bring back Halo 2 and 3’s multiplayer. I can always hope for Halo 5 I guess.

Just because the enemies are hard for you doesn’t means it’s bad or flawed. It’s meant to be a challenge. Challenge is good. Aimbots? They’re computers, what else are they supposed to use? An xbox controller?
-
I primarily use the Battle rifle, Assault rifle, Storm rifle and the Magnum on Spartan ops and I’ve never had a problem. Snipers have always been like that on the head honcho enemies. Took two shots to kill Brutes as well. 1 for the armour, 1 for the kill. Elites do jump around, they’re meant to be tough alien warriors, do you expect them to just stand still for you?
-
Not really Remember the time they foiled that covie plot to blow up the Infinity from the inside with Nukes? Or when they freed Spartan team Switchback? Or when they deactivated the artifact that kept Infinity rooted to Requiem through slipspace, freeing the Infinity and saving it from spiraling into the sun?4. So you just want it to just be easy-mode-steamrolling through all the enemies?
I play Spartan Ops on my own and I love it. It would be even better with a group of friends. Completely disagree with everything you said.
SpOps Season 2 has already been nixed, so there’s not much less they can do.

Problem isn’t their accuracy, problem is that Spartans move so slowly they cannot disrupt enemy accuracy.
-
He means headshots. Shielded Brutes in H3 could go down with 1 sniper headshot. Elites in H4 always take 2 headshots. Anyways, the sniper is easily superseded so I’m not dismayed.
-
He means Season 1.0.
-
Neglecting Solo scaling is a disgrace.
Try mythic/LASO
legendary is a piece of cake compared to Mythic/LASO
Remember that 343 have have had only one try and it won’t be perfect
I just wished who ever designed the spartan ops environments worked on the multiplayer maps since they would work better than the multiplayer maps themselves like warrens and apex etc
I like spartan ops, though I enjoyed it more when it was on the Heroic difficulty. I found it more enjoyable when I could run through a horde of covies blastin away with reckless abandon. Alot more tactic must be used when on Legendary. Which is fine, but I prefer to feel like a supersoldier.

Its not only you. I like it a lot, and I have played almost 400 missions. I like shooting stuff.
Relating to what the OP says, the only part that is killing it for me is infinite respawns. If I did not have them in the missions I would have to be a lot more tactical to kill enemies. Right now I just rush in and kill what I can before respawning and repeating. This makes the old Spartan joke about respawning become true -_-
