Joe Staten used to be Halo’s lead writer, but Bungie left Halo and he stuck with Bungie. Joe has recently left bungie… 343i can hire him!
Halo 4 had a great story! But unfortunately Halo 4’s lead writer (Chris Schlerf) has left 343i.
Currently Halo’s new(ish) lead writer (and Halo 5’s lead writer) has had negative reception from fans, me included. I will not name this certain 343i staff member as I do not want to be banned from the forums again. However Spartan Ops’s story, Certain issues of Halo Escalation, and Halo Innitiation have had… issues with their writing… to say the least. That’s as much detail as I can go into…
I just don’t want these issues to persist in Halo 5’s story, or future entries in the Halo Universe. Why not bring back a classic Halo writer who has
proven himself worthy several times? 343i should bring back Joe Staten!
Only good things can come of this, there are only pros to him being hired, no cons. I really hope this happens.

He didn’t write reach. He did write 1, 2, and 3. 2 had a great story. Either way. Even reach is a yoink load better story than the terribly written spartan ops, and halo escalation’s next 72 hours 3 issue story arc.

Staten Co-wrote Halo 3 with Robert McLees and Luke Smith. He was in no way involved with Reach, and he wrote CE and 2 on his own, from what i can gather. That has to count for something, as far as i’m concerned. He was originally writing for Destiny, until he left in late 2013, which is when they probably butchered it.

I wouldn’t hire him I would make him the boss of 343. Have him be in charge of halo from now on.The campaign has always been his.

They’re not going to kick out the current president, just so Staten can take their place. Again, he is Senior Creative Director for MS Studios game division. He has a good enough job, as it is.
Chris Schlerf did a great job with 4, imo. And those terminals? WOW! We could use the advantage of having two great writers, but I won’t be sad if 343 doesn’t hire him.
PS: as Rhistr said, he’s already hired by Microsoft.
They should definitely bring Joe back to Halo, but not for writing. He did a good job with the games he handled, wrote a fine book (an actual book, with many pages of words which told of things and places), but his talent there is greatly overshadowed by his voice acting ability.
I HAVE A BIG GRUNTY THIRST THAT CANNOT BE QUENCHED!
While I wouldn’t have an issue with Joe Staten swapping over from Microsoft Game Studios to work with 343, I don’t really envision that working out. Staten is already working on other projects and probably wants to stick with them, plus he’s most likely tired of writing Halo games just like Martin O’Donnell was tired of only composing Halo music. 343 needs to get rid of ian-Bray eed-Ray (he who must not be named) and get a good lead writer on board, but that doesn’t necessarily mean old Bungie members any more than good music requires O’Donnell.
I would like Joseph Staten to come back, but only as a high-level plot writer. The stories and universes he’s created are amazing, but the dialogue he writes tends to be tacky and have the same awkwardly-not-funny humor.
That said, based on previous written works, I would definitely take Staten over Reed any day.

If it is okay to call out individuals for good things, then it should also be okay to call out individuals for bad things. An all-out hate train is never okay though.
He should consult on the script, for sure. His ideas for Halo 2’s narrative, in terms of politics, religion and dual-split Campaign, were genius at the time for the series.
Brian Reed is 343’s lead writer now, right? With how he handled Escalation, I’d rather have ANYONE other than him write the script for Halo 5.
