343i... removing streaming = dead community..

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/developer/rules

This is just laughable. You are no longer aloud to stream Halo if the site has ads attached to it or to make a profit.

This effectively kills the MLG/streaming community from Halo completely.

People both professional players and commentators use sites like twitch, youtube, etc to stream gameplay of games like Halo. They make money off of ads.

If they can’t do that, then they won’t stream/play the games that forbid it.

Why is this bad?

  • Well first off MLG is a huge community that hosts streams. If they can’t or aren’t allowed to get compensation, they will abandon the game. MLG has always been a huge audience for Halo and with them gone, it won’t be good.

  • Stream provide free advertising for Halo and attract new peopel to play. By doing this you are losing sales of the game.

  • Helpful videos and tips and trick videos will be gone.

  • Machinima will be severely hurt unless they are Red vs Blus and have connections/money. (Which I think is kind of ironic considering 343i hosts a TON of videos from Halo 3/Reach that are machinimas).

So you have now made Halo a lot less attractive for competitive players, commentators, machinima directors, and streamers. What a loss and heavy blow for the community.

Again, really ironic considering Halo Waypoint is based around sharing these videos. Which now won’t exist anymore.

But you know how much money these people are making? Literally like a penny for 500 views. It is such a loss Microsoft is taking for free advertising.

This isn’t 343i’s doing. Take it up with MS.

> This isn’t 343i’s doing. Take it up with MS.

343i is an extension of Microsoft’s gaming division.

therefore, take it up with MICROSOFT

lolololololooolllol.

That is all.

Yes, but I don’t think they have control over the usage of game content

Yes, but they had nothing to do with it. Microsoft’s in charge.

> This isn’t 343i’s doing. Take it up with MS.

If you say that about everything nothing will get changed. If 343i sees a huge community uproar about this it will change. And Halo players need to step up against this. This is a stupid move.

I read it and nothing here suggests a doomsday for machinima, tip videos or anything of the sort. It’s all just common sense rights, licensing and fair use stuff. Really, you just can’t make money off of it.

343i is Microsoft

And I am sure if the fans complain they will take note of the change. These are also the Microsoft forums for Halo.

That isn’t 343’s fault. Your misplaced hate towards them is laughable.

> That isn’t 343’s fault. Your misplaced hate towards them is laughable.

It may not be directly their fault but they are still a branch of Microsoft’s gaming department and are responsible for Halo. They must have some or knowledge about things happening to their brand and the ability to change them.

People who make a living off youtube won’t waste their time promoting a game or playing a game that won’t be paid for.

Say what you want, but that will be less Halo coverage. And less isn’t more in this case. For a game to live you needs lot of community this which Halo always had. Take away that community stuff and you got nothing.

So, I don’t know how this becomes a problem… I mean, lots of youtubers get money from doing videos about Halo, how is this different? these rules are hardly new…

Like you said “343i is an extension of Microsoft’s gaming division.”. That means just that, they work for Microsoft. That doesn’t mean they have control over Microsoft’s rules. Anyway, from what I’ve seen it doesn’t look as if they are restricting the usage too much. Remember, Machinima is another medium for them to get people to play their games.

> So, I don’t know how this becomes a problem… I mean, lots of youtubers get money from doing videos about Halo, how is this different? these rules are hardly new…

Well it means that it will limit youtube vids and 343i/Microsoft will be in more control of what content people make using Halo.

If people can’t use youtube, twitch, etc to show their content, it will make it less appealing to make Machinimas and streams no one can see.

the people “making money” make pennies to dollars at best while thousands of people see Halo 4.

Essentially Microsoft/343i is mad they have free advertising.

343i is pretty much a separate company owned by Microsoft.

At any rate, they have no control over MS’s terms of use, etc.

Yet the community stuff isn’t going away. There will still be machinima, there will still be Halo Tips videos, none of those will go away. It doesn’t look like these rules have changed over the years and if we’ve had these rules and all this Halo content…what’s the problem?

You just can’t make money on someone else’s copyrighted content without permission.

microsoft or 343 this is might not be good. machinmas might go down to an all time low and machinams are what keep halo alive after people have finished campaign and gotten bored of matchmaking. I do not see anything good from this. I wonder what would happen if bungie was still in control. do you guys still think this would happen. hopefully this will all turn out to be okay.
