343i PLEASE READ. Changes and ideas for the future of the multiplayer

I mean I personally dont need the ability to earn credits via play to be too extreme but just enough to feel like I could afford smaller items or buy bundles cheaper

Great post!! Agree with everything.

Rewarding skilful play is probably the most desirable feature that needs to be added IMO!!

I was just spitballing the numbers overall, haven’t really done the grind math on them but I think it needs to be a balance between doable and not too easy. Whatever that number would be!

I have several friends who bought the campaign already but don’t want to also pay for the battlepass, which is understandable, but I feel like if we were able to earn credits to use on store items they would be more inclined to fork out a bit extra for the pass.

Wow, absolutely incredible post. Seriously you nailed literally everything and pretty much all of your points are things that I would want added to or changed with the game. You, you I like bro.

It’s odd to see someone come up with a working system, but an entire live service team in a AAA game studio couldn’t manage it. Really makes you wonder if they’ll even be able to fix it themselves.

You’ve nailed all the issues they need to address, though I would add 100xp per match plus 50 for a win seems a little steep given that you only need 1000 to rank up the pass. Alternatively make it 50 for playing and then 50 for winning.

also turn off the scope glows,

just adjust the total points needed to be higher. Play with the percentages. But there needs to be rewards for staying matches and winning. Right now its so much more beneficial point wise to just quit if its not the game you need for a challenge

Here’s another one. DON’T LISTEN TO DR. DISRESPECT. Please don’t take out Strongholds just to please the guy.

This post fundamentally identifies the majority of issues raised by the community, and I hope for everyone’s sake it gets seen by the comm managers.

Props to you and the the rest of the replies for there input, these should be 1st priority during this beta to be fixed prior to go live.

I will raise a few things extra to these that I see on the daily:

  • Objective based games are useless without a reason to get involved which as you’ve stated can be fixed by adding a XP bonus to the medals.

  • Ranking and profile updates to show who your playing with what playstyle they play ( as seen by there favourite weapon or vehicle or flag medals etc .)

  • A way to identify yourself in game by opening up the customisation a bit (hopefully this is fixed with the campaign armour core and attachments).

  • Challenge descriptions , if there attached to a medal just say achieve this medal , I spent ages last week trying to crush a Spartan only to find out it was a pancake medal which I had got ages ago before the challenge.

  • if need be bring back the SR## or something similar, I know it’s a F2P but if you lock personal identity behind a paywall at least give people something to aim for while playing even if the XP gained is seperate to the battle pass.

  • and finnally a credit system , similar to that of reach , you can monetize the -Yoink!- out of this but giving people the option to spend there credits on what they want will have them play the game more aim for objectives and become part of the economy of the game and most likely spend some money on these credits in the store.

So strongly agree with all of this. Beautiful summary.

The only point I would say different is the player outlines; I do like them, I just find they’re still much too hard to see when someone hasn’t taken damage, especially if their stupid armor coating is of the opposite UI color, which the player can;t control at all. So, whether they turn them off, or just make them much brighter and more obvious, I don’t care, as long as people are easy to see and there’s never the confusion of whether someone is an ally or an enemy.

I really, really hope 343 does change all of this, though. I’ve been playing since the first Halo and grew up with these games. I want to see this game be amazing again.

Following up on this comment about the outlines I believe they can be turned off from settings , correct me if I’m wrong but I changed mine to a more distinguished colour to identify them better in game. Same goes for objectives as I found that there outline was masked by the objective colour as well.

You can change the colors, but as of right now there is no way to actually turn them off, that I’m aware of.

You’ve clearly put a lot of time into this so hopefully it will be picked up. I think we need to also appreciate some of the suggestions will dramatically change the levelling economy though and the suggestions need to reflect that. It’s a two way street. Most shooters have elongated levelling mechanics in that it takes you longer and longer to get to the next level the higher you go. Halo is slightly different in that every level has a fixed cost. So your ideas are solid, but some of the minor suggestions just wouldn’t work well.

I agree match xp needs a complement of a win bonus. I think 50xp per game played is fine with a +100xp if you secure the win. If you win half your games that’s still a vast increase in the pace of levelling. Currently it takes 20 games on given xp to climb one level. That’s just 8 wins and 6 losses.
I don’t agree with the variable objective xp because that will throw the levelling economy out the window and lead to people hotballing the flag/ball in game to farm xp. However, if you take those suggestions and put them into the challenges like:

*Hold the ball for 60 seconds = 100xp
*Get 3 flag captures = 100xp
*Kill the flag carrier 3 times = 100xp
*Return the flag 3 times = 100xp
*Secure 5 power seeds = 100xp
*Get 25 kills = 100xp
*Get 25 melee kills = 100xp
*Win 4 medals in one game = 100xp

You still get the xp for PTFO but it’s also capped to challenge tokens to prevent exploitation.

Regarding the spartan customisation, I think a graded system of colour options make more sense. So commons can be applied anywhere to any core, rare is limited to armour piece maybe, epic locked to core?

I have the opposite experience to you with vehicles and BTB, I think air vehicles are too hard to take down currently based on the two that I’ve seen spawn. It’s not that the team hasn’t had 4-6 people trying to take it down, it’s just due to not having weapons in hand that are good enough and when they circle spawn it gets quite difficult to get the foothold back. I also like the current TTK.

It’s definitely a good starting point to hopefully have the discussion though. 343 need to respect what we want and our ideas but I think we also need to respect their model for the Multiplayer and therefore put forth suggestions that work with it, are reasonable, and don’t break the underlying mechanics as we’re more likely to be listened to.

Yup, seems like this would pretty much sort out everything and in one civil and non ranty list! well played spartan!

Halo 5 had the best method to acquire new aesthetic items. It was kinda democratic since you were given free in game money but at the same time you could buy packs with real money to customize your Spartan. If you were lucky and patient enough you could unlock a legendary armour while playing and by opening free packs whereas if you were a collector person or you didn’t want to grind you could simply buy packs. I think that if they add the pack system that Halo 5 had they would resolve almost every problem. Customization is one of the best part of Halo and that’s really lame to lock it behind a paywall… I think that people could get tired without it. As far as I’m concerned, I would have preferred to buy a complete 60 dollars game than a free to play where I can’t unlock anything without paying. That’s not Halo!
Ancients said: “In medio stat Virtus”, so ok to pay content but they should work a lot more on free ones! To conclude, the pack and lottery system to me was the best and I really hope they will reintroduce it

Being angry and loud doesn’t really help in this case!

Thanks mate! I’m just hoping the community teams see it and maybe pass it on.

I’ll take the massive compliment but I think ive just curated it into a readable form, most of these ideas are a collective! One voice from all of us! Just hope it gets seen and considered.

Yeah I was just kinda throwing a round number. I actually dont mind the current 50xp per game right now, I just wish we had a reward for winning so yeah 50 for playing 50 for winning would work just as well! Once combined with skill based xp rewards too.

Look, we’re all hoping they wont listen to him and i legit think they wont. Removing a whole game mode for one guy is SO unbelievably stupid i just can’t see 343 doing it. Hopefully adding mode selection shuts him up since he’s just choose to now queue for it.

100% agree here mate. They could also do SBMM with the SR too.

Thanks mate! Also if it helps your can change the colour of the enemies to be opposite of the armour dmg effects.

Thanks for the awesome feedback everyone and the very kind words!

A lot of the ideas in my post and obviously the comments in here are all a collective thing, i just wanted to chuck it in a big post and HOPE someone on the community team sees it and the constructive comments here.

The hardest thing about this whole mess is a lot of folk are pretty upset and it’s purely from a passionate mindset so they are just frustrated but i feel that if we are going to be heard and have change come to the game we all want to succeed, we need to be calm and constructive.

You’re all awesome is basically what im saying <3

That’s a pretty good list. Don’t forget assists. Assists need to be worth something significant so intentional kill stealing doesn’t become too much of an issue. It also rewards actual teamwork. I think this should be stressed.

The only real issue I can see, is per match XP. AFKing will still be a massive issue as long as you’re rewarded for simply finishing a match. There has to be some sort of workaround to give XP for finishing a match, but only if you’re actually playing. Is there an AI system that can tell whether or not a player is actually playing and moving around a map, and not just moving a few feet every minute or so to not get kicked for “inactivity”?

That’s a really good point about AFK’ers. Okay 50 for a match and 50 for a win. would be better than 100 for a match. Assists should totally get xp too, i keep forgetting they are also a thing right now since none of it currently matters :frowning:
