I was shocked today when I finished the weekly challenges far sooner than I expected to. One of the reasons I play Halo: Infinite so often is to complete challenges, now I have 10 less challenges to complete for weekly rewards I already have. I understand the move to 10 challenges per week, it incentivizes casual players to actually grind to get the weekly reward, while also elongating the time it takes to complete battle passes because less challenges equals less exp rewards. I know this is a lot to ask for, and it’s silly to even ask for, but could we get radiant challenges that either offer no exp or a minimal amount like 50 exp? I find myself leaving Halo: Infinite alone more often when I complete my challenges, so if we had radiant challenges that would keep me coming back, I’d be playing all the time. Even just one random challenge at a time after completing the weekly would suffice for me. I personally loved the way challenges worked in season 2, even if I did have to play gametypes I didn’t like- it forced me to play outside of my comfort zone and actually enjoy the game in ways I previously did not. I don’t know. This is another instance of 343i being right the first/second time, and listening TOO much to players,
unfortunately, people this day and age don’t want to be challenged. They just want free hand outs that make them feel like they’ve actually accomplished something meaningful lol.
This is the day and age we live in it seems. I just wish they’d change the name…
Challenges be renamed to Side Objectives. They’re not remotely challenging now, so they shouldn’t be called Challenges.
Weekly Reward be renamed to Participation Trophies
I always thought that 20 challenges per week for a free in game reward wasn’t that bad. The change to 10 might be a way to get more players in total playing compared to where the game has been.
Or let’s rename it to commendations, like it was supposed to be, and get rid of challenges altogether.
I originally thought they were gonna keep it at 20 but you unlock the reward after 10…
For sure. The problem wasnt the amount of challenges it was how stupid the challenges were.
I was just looking for this exact thread before starting my own.
Big fat Nope. New way is better, easy weekly rewards/incentives but the BP takes a bit longer to unlock.
Off all the things they are doing, they sure ain’t listening too much to their players. Go troll somewhere else.
I don’t think anybody is saying go back to the old way - just add more.
One reversal for 50XP is not a challenge.
A better way is give us 20 challenges and unlock weekly rewards after complete 10
I don’t think this would work with that borked UI. I had several bugs within 5 minutes, Season 0 - Testing or Season 2001 etc.
I’m guessing they removed the Bot modes because they couldn’t find a way to not give you XP shooting these crash dummies.
Their metrics and insane player drop-off showed them, that the last version of the challenge system was bad for player retention (only metric they care for) so they pedaled back big time. I wouldn’t be surprised if it will be made even easier in the future but that’s a bit depending on the player base developments.
They’re probably betting on Match XP filling in the void where the 10 missing challenges are. And you know what? Once they get it to that point, I’d prefer it that way. Challenges-as-main-progression was unhealthy game design then and now.
I don’t want them as the main progression either. I don’t care if they offer 0 XP.
I just want more to try to attain.
20 challenges was good, but the worst part was (and still is) that only 4 are active. There need to be 20 challenges and they need to be active all at the same time.
I’m glad they shortened the number of weekly challenges. I just don’t find infinite’s challenge system fun or enjoyable. It was always such a slog for me to get through them all, the rare times I did. I’d have to set time aside to play Infinite for hours, and after I finished them I wouldn’t touch the game for weeks because I felt sick of it. It still doesn’t really feel worth the effort, but now if I want a weekly reward at least I don’t have to waste as much free time doing a ton of them, when there’s other games I’d rather play more.
Just ask them to provide two weekly awards at ten challenges each which equals twenty. Simple and more rewarding.
…or just have the weekly award earned at 10 challenges, but keep the challenges going afterwards as an on-going bonus XP incentive.
I agree I finished the 10 in a hour, if people are saying 20 is to much then lets meet in the middle and do 15 because 10 is not the answer.
You know you can set your own goals, you don’t have to have a game artificially set them for you for a sense of progression.
Problem here isn’t the amount of challenges and 343 still seems to fail in noticing,
The real problem is the challenge, it is very RNG that is forcing players to not play objectively.
Get 3 backstabs…mostly done by people camping.
Play 3 rumble pit…people who dislike rumble pit will just idle…
Keep it at 10. I don’t have the time to complete 20 challenges every week. Between work and things that I need to get done around the house I just don’t have the time. This is a nice balance for those who have long work hours and have others things that need to get down. With 20 challenges and the time it took to complete them, I couldn’t justify doing it every week.
