Ok, look I want to first apologise, this is not meant to be another bashing thread but I wanted to raise this issue before the next map pack arrives when ever it does. I currently believe that whoever is designing the DLC achievements needs to stop, and rethink what is actually attainable within all 3 maps and how fun it is to acquire the achievements. This is no offense to 343i but you suck at DLC achievements this occurred both in Reach and 4. Granted you are following Bungie’s example of DLC achievements that they set with H3 and H:R Noble Map Pack but as much as this pains me to say this; I’m glad that a number have glitched for me.
Everytime I see or here about DLC achievements in Halo I am always smiling thinking what a wonderful set of achievements which is clever and fun, then a slowly realise trying to attain those achievements are just causing nothing but anguish and to a degree stupidity to get them.
Achievement Denied: 343i’s history with DLC
Lets take a look at some of the glitches that came out of your DLC achievements;
1.
Halo Reach Defiant Map Pack Glitch.
You remember when the map pack came out and everyone was like woah only 3 achievements. Oddly enough someone figured out that we didn’t even need to get them in matchmaking and only needed to have played the gametype and could load that in custom games.
2.
Halo 4 Crimson DLC
Nearly every single achievement is broken in some regard.
-
Now they Fly? - (Personal note: Whoever made this achievement needs to die slowly.) Rumour has it you can get this without even using the Warthog. Skimming across the ground also does not unlock it, even though all requirements are met when viewed in the theater.
-
Bigfoot - People have it unlocking in the thirties, yep not twenties but thirties. Heard it is due to stomping while an opponent is in a vehicle not counting towards the total.
-
“ODST”, “Clay Pigeon” and “Special Delivery” have all unlocked for people nowhere near a Man cannon and have actually unlocked with a combination of a jet pack and melee/rocket/grenade.
“David and Goliath” and “Pump Yer Brakes” have reported for a small minority that unlocking both in quick concession has caused them both to “relock” and are no longer attainable.
“Size is Everything” is perhaps the only one that isn’t broken and nothing has been reported so far.
This list also doesn’t include the mysterious 9th achievement which was seemingly dropped/removed yet promoted in the graphic for the Crimson Pack http://blogs.halowaypoint.com/Headlines/post/2012/12/04/Halo-4-Crimson-Map-Pack-Achievements.aspx(its the grenade with the cross)
We are John in the Campaign but not in the Multiplayer.
What I see is a lot of “luck” based achievements. Some of Reach’s required a lot of luck (that they had the right load out, right conditions etc) same with 4.
Now lets take the Mantis one, “Bigfoot”, stomp 20 enemies, simple enough.
There is a 1/3 chance of acquiring the map with the Mantis on it.
There is a 1/6 chance you will acquire the Mantis.
There is a 1/2 chance you will destroy the other Mantis.
There is a 1/2 chance when fighting an enemy that you will kill him.
There is a 1/6 chance an enemy is in a Ghost.
There is a 5/6 chance that a team-member might kill someone your weakening.
This doesn’t factor in;
- opposing team skill level.
- if teammates are aiming for the “Bigfoot” achievement.
- if opposing team is aiming for the “David and Goliath” and “Pump Yer Brakes” achievements.
- what weapons they have.
- if the stomp “connects”.
- it doesn’t glitch on you.
- There is a 1/6 chance you will require the mantis on its respawn.
- There is a 1/2 chance you will destroy the other Mantis on its respawn.
- There is a 1/6 chance your Mantis could be stolen be an opposing member of the team.
- The gametype.
I’m not very good at chances but that would be about a 1/2592 chance of acquiring a kill in a game.
As you can see its all about luck. The same for Now they fly? achievement. Granted the luck of getting a warthog is considerably higher as they appear in larger numbers and also on 2 of the 3 maps, but the chance that a person will be in the right position when you jump in a warthog and getting a kill is incredibly low.
Conclusion
I am glad you guys are taking achievements so literally, as some really are “achievements”. If these weren’t glitched I would have really struggled on some of them.
But I have to say that from viewing community comments on here and on achievements hunting websites, if people are happy that achievements “glitched” for them, maybe just maybe, the achievements are not the “right” achievements to have. Some of your achievements in Reach seemed either for the extremely skilled or luck, and your Halo 4 DLC ones are again in the same boat.
Most require a specific map to appear which you to get a specific object/item and do a specific action, which I have no problem about. But what I do have a problem is that they shouldn’t be so ridiculous. We bought this DLC so we should be rewarded for doing so in nearly every area. You shouldn’t go perform; a flying forward one-and-a-half somersaults while performing an extermination with a mongoose to get that one achievement. You should go you’ve bought the DLC so we’ll make it easy for you guys but not too easy that it turns into a joke.
343i, you guys and gals have a fantastic 1000G retail achievement list, and have the clever “ideas” for DLC, just make sure you have the execution, and that they are fun and enjoyable to get, and are not just a way to extend our time on the maps. Remember we paid to have access to these maps, don’t make our experience be a coal mine, make it enjoyable.
Thanks.
