I’ve been a fan of Halo since the beginning way back in 2001!
Personally I think every Halo has been awesome to play and that is the reason I am still a fan today.
343i has done a great job since taking over from Bungie but I really hope they don’t listen to us too much for the creation of Halo Infinite.
It seems the community doesn’t really know what it wants and are split down the middle about gameplay/art style etc etc
If they take too much of what we say into account the game could end up being…well…weird.
Although, on the other hand it doesn’t really matter how the game turns out, l’m gonna play the crap out of it anyway, coz that’s what a true Halo fan would do.
Yes, 343i. We are Halo fans. We don’t know what we want. We just know that we don’t want what anyone else wants. Even if we say we want something, we don’t want that. If we say we don’t want something, we’re pissed if we didn’t get it.
Yes, for God’s sake don’t listen to us, but if you don’t we’ll make you pay. Have we made ourselves clear?

I’ll be fine with them not listening to you at the very least.
I just want them to make a game that THEY are passionate about. I feel too much since Bungie left has been about “making the fans happy.” I think if they just focus and make something they are passionate about, that passion will resonate in the game that is produced. That’s what will make people want to play. And I think that was something that Bungie did so well that 343 should learn from.

Im not sure if they listen to us or not. But it is in their best interest to listen to what the community wants or ideas they have if they want a successful game imo.
They should be listening to us and I believe they are. Halo 4 was downright awful and halo 5 was only good because they managed to save the multiplayer. According to 343 they hired people that “didnt even like halo”. so yeah they should be listening to us. Halo 5 was a small step in the right direction and infinite looks incredible so far so yeah its pretty obvious that they are listening to us, and they really should be.
I have to disagree. I think 343i is certainly a competent studio filled with talented developers, but the overall reception of Halo 4 and 5 and the health of the franchise in general should be evidence enough that they need some guidance in the direction they should go. Halo: Infinite has gotten many excited specifically because it looks like 343i is finally addressing many of the complaints that have circulated the community over the last five years, and that sentiment is what encouraged 343i to soft-reboot the series and take some time off to make sure they get this one right. If they were truly confident in the direction that Halo 5, or even Halo 4, was taking the franchise, then none of this would be happening in the first place.
Also, listening to the community is not a bad thing at all, it’s not like the next Halo game will be made by mob rule. I look at it more as putting up the guard rails so they can have an easier time getting back on track with what fans want out of Halo.
I think any developer considers player feedback above all else. Identifying your audience and understanding what it is your audience wants is an integral step of the development process. Waypoint provides much of that and that is a good thing. You can’t serve a table if you don’t know what the table wants. I’m not saying throw everybody’s ideas into a bowl and mix it up. I’m saying do what you need to do to make a good Halo game based on the feedback you get from the community.

Hmm, I’ll change my post. The Halo community has always been split with different opinions. What 343 should do is take all the feedback into consideration and then mold the best ideas into their game as long as it fits into their vision for the direction of the game.
I hope when you say you’ll play whatever they make also includes you voicing your opinion on the good and bad parts of the game despite you saying they shouldn’t listen to us. Otherwise you’re doing 343 a disservice by not telling them what they’re doing well or what they could improve on. If you don’t do that, then you aren’t being a true fan.
I think I understand the message you’re trying to convey, OP. The way you present it is just… Inelegant. Telling a game developer to not listen to its fanbase is essentially telling them to shoot themselves in the kneecaps. A fanbase is the most important part of any media. How big would Harry Potter be if no one ever read it? How big would Titanic be if no one ever watched it? And how successful would Halo be if no one played it and gave the developers their thoughts on the game?
If we don’t give our thoughts, they are not given a direction to go in for their next game. Telling them what works and what doesn’t in a refined, well-thought out critique is the easiest way to ensure that the next game is as good as it can be.

You cannot classify any gaming community as a whole, singular entity. Each individual has their own opinions on what exactly they like and dislike in the games. We all make our voices heard, and sometimes we clash when it comes to what we want in the next Halo. That doesn’t mean the whole community is split into two camps, fighting each other with two bases in the middle of a boxed canyon, where the winner gets to choose what’s best for Halo.
It’s ultimately up to 343 to decipher what will please the most fans. While most of us here can only make observations, 343 gathers data to the best of their ability to narrow down what choices would be most popular. We all know that they can’t take every single suggestion into account; no game developer could do such a thing. Again, it’s up to 343 to decide which changes suggested would be the most meaningful. That does not mean that we should stop giving feedback. Because without feedback, they wouldn’t know how to keep us fans content. Meanwhile, we don’t want to see 343 fail. We want to help them succeed.
Listening is not the same as executing. People are capable of taking feedback, weighing it, and deciding its value independently. Believe it or not, this also applies to game developers. Good developers will make good games. Developers who are not so good will not make good games regardless of how much or how little they pay attention to the feedback. The quality of a game does not depend on the feedback from the community, it depends on the judgement process of the people making the game.
