343i on making Halo their own

I was posed this particular question yesterday by a gentleman I met online while doing Spartan Ops:

“Would you hate 343 more for copying Bungie? OR would you hate them more for making halo their own”

This got me thinking, how much of the working formula did they need to break/change to make it their own? After all, they are picking up the “Mantle” of carrying on the Halo franchise that has been around for a few years now and has gathered a large following.

I’ve realized that I have a hard time grasping the Halo feel of this game, particularly because of the current flow of the game of MM and extreme lack of “Halo” moments.

new developer, new idea. I don’t want to play Halo 3 : NextGame Edition, I wanted halo 4.
they removed some things, added some cool things bungie never delivered.

and please notice the direction Bungie was going with Reach. it already was a more realistic Halo game, 343i is only going further this way.

Artistically I wish that they would have copied Bungie so much is just not right in Halo 4.

For me, it was a blessing to have 343 take over the Campaign. More character development, best graphics on the console yet, Chief talking during Campaign, an entire new enemy class and so many other things Bungie simply didn’t do for years (for no good reason either). It’s not a perfect story, no game has one but it felt like an evolution of Bungie’s work while still keeping that “Halo” feel with how the level’s progressed IMO. Nit pick all you want but i enjoyed this Halo game, worts and all. You can’t change my mind either, so don’t attempt to do so.

The MP is another beast all together. Enjoyable to a fault, it needs a lot tweaking but at least the Complex glitch is gone from MM (thank you).

Plus, with the way Reach turned out, i think it was time for Bungie to move and have 343 take a crack at the series. Not all the changes were as refined as we hoped but this the first steps for the studio. They’ll hopefully learn from the mistakes made in Halo 4 to make Halo 5 and 6 even better. Of course, we has a community, must help them along so they don’t go off into the wrong direction (spy planes, bombing runs, broken perks, aim down sights etc).

I felt as those the jumping, movement, FOV, and shooting code is leagues above Halo 3 and Halo Reach. It’s just the other random elements bring that down ;/

I see what you did there…

Couldn’t have said it better myself, the campaign for me was amazing and I don’t praise a Game’s story too often considering the amount of games under my belt.

I think they realize the fault of not having a Beta. Hopefully, they are taking actions to fix the bugs running around everywhere. We as a community are their harshest critics. I play with non-forum goers alot and they think the game awesome. Grateful to just to be playing halo again. Once the serious issues are addressed and corrected, we all will be alot happier. Well, most of us.

Hate to be the nostalgia guy but Halo 2 had the most character development.

Halo 4 should have been its own game yeah, but it should still be Halo.

This game has no where near the amount of custom options H3 did, a game that came out in 2007. 343 has dug their own grave. The sales went down from 3 to reach, and way down from 3 - 4.

Halo 3 made $170m in the US alone first week.

Halo 4 made $220m worldwide.

Halo 5 will make > than any other Halo, because Halo is no longer a unique shooter. It doesn’t feel any different than any other FPS.

If this game didn’t say Halo on the box it would be considered a generic shooter, a CoD wannabe + shields.
