343i needs to go back to Halo's roots...

…Except that they did it with MCC. Game’s having some rough start, but it doesn’t explain why in first few days it sold only 1 million copies. I mean c’mon. Advanced Warfare sold in more than 2 million copies for Xbox One alone (and people who have both PS4 and XBone, tend to buy PS4 version) at the same amount of time since release (however it was actually working since day 1, so because word of mouth it sells dropped little less in following weeks and to this day CoD:AW sold in more than 10 milion copies for all platforms).

There are lot’s of threads how Halo 5 is bad, because it isn’t Halo enough, but let’s face it: very few people cares about “true” Halo. Remaking 10 year old gameplay over and over again will only kill this franchise. I see this with my friends (and actually myself too): after some matches with newer fps, Halo 2, Halo 3 and even Halo 2 Annivesary seems… boring. We might foul ourselves that having less gameplay features has some “classic” vibe that’s appealing to “competitive” people and because there were several hundreds of thousand online player each day in Halo 3, they will come back and welcome “true” Halo with open arms…

…but none of that is true. Next Halo game has to be good, fun, modern game.

And please, don’t tell me that if Halo 2 Anniversary online was working, pre-orders of MCC would beat pre-orders of CoD:AW - that’s nonsense.

Honestly I never bought into the whole “roots” movement. Not one Halo title has been the same as the previous, and I don’t understand how you can peg down any one particular ‘root.’ It can only apply in the broadest sense, and doesn’t acknowledge all the changes that Halo titles have gone through over the years. Those are more important, IMHO, than any one root feature. Sure, you get the occasional miss (Reach, which I happened to love) and the occasional disaster (Halo 4) but that’s the trouble with innovation… it’s not always going to be a home run. I’ll happily take the good with the bad for the sake of keeping things fresh.

No, Halo 5 needs to keep that combat evolving. I think the trick, for Halo, anyway, is to avoid falling into the popularity trap. Halo 4 did this to devastating effect. Guardians looks like it is avoiding this with the exception of that damn ground pound…

I’m hopeful with Guardians. Because this Halo fan is looking ahead. Looking to the past isn’t doing much but souring my fond memories of the glory days of yesteryear. Let’s leave them where they belong and look forward.

An excellent point, and one that I’m so very glad to finally see getting noted about these parts. I had been starting to think it was me and like five other people.

Each Halo game has, if everyone would care to take off the rose-tinted glasses for a moment, had its successes that contributed to the evolution of the series, and its failures that were either modified significantly in the following iteration or scrapped entirely.

Dual-wielding, regenerating health and highjacking in Halo 2, Equipment and EMP effects in Halo 3, Armor Abilities and sprint in Reach, Loadouts, Personal Ordinance and always-available sprint in Halo 4, all of these things were met with resistance when introduced and while some of them were cut out later or modified heavily, others were kept entirely and became mainstays of the core mechanics. For Halo 5, I see this as the moment when Armor Abilities are likely to reach final evolution and find their place at long last in the form of Spartan Abilities. Come Halo 6, maybe Charge or Ground Pound will be gone and some new thing will come around that we’ll all scream at until we forget it was ever not there in Halo 8.

If you look at pretty much any other series with a history to it (The Elder Scrolls, StarCraft, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Fable, etc) pretty much no new game is met with open arms as-is. People gripe about some thing or other, and sometimes it’s just asinine and other times they’re right to contest it. This is just the way gamers are and the way games evolve.

honestly, I think halo 5 looks great. they went to the roots, but not all of the roots. Halo is now halo but with a twist like every halo before it. They know they did some stuff in halo 4 that a lot of people did not like at all. Now everything is balanced and it all comes down to skill like it should, not who can make the best class. And if you truly want to go down to the complete roots, theres MCC for yea which for me at less, completely works including matchmaking

You see to be the only one that understands, everyone is freaking out over halo 5 because of a new zoom? People don’t want halo to change, they want Halo 3 over and over.

I thought they wanted Halo 2 over and over. Well, damn. Confound these generalizations.

And I thought people said Halo CE was the only true classic Halo.

We must be crazy.

Sigh, its a remake, a remake on a new console no less. Re-releasing a game or series of games everyone has already played, is not the same thing as releasing a brand new, fully featured Halo game that uses the original series as a base.

There still is no evidence that general audiences would reject a new Halo game that is closer to the first 3 games. There is also no evidence that they would necessarily accept it. Why? Because no one has tried to even see if they would. That is what my issue is at the moment is not with the changes, but with the idea that the original style of Halo has been declared ‘outdated’ with zero evidence.

Let’s try and cut down on the dishonest arguments, on ‘both sides’.

it could possibly work, just look at COD, But they do make changes to it. And people did not like goats, but it seems a lot like AW. I think the way Halo 5 looks is just fine. It is new enough to make it feel like a new game, but not so far out there that it doesn’t feel like a different game. We will just need to wait and see how the Beta is.

So people are freaking out about the new zoom ability, even though we have always had it in the game and it really will not effect gameplay as much as people think. You get shot, you zoom out, it zooms in not that much a bloom is still the same.

^ This.

Remakes will never do as well as the originals. Also consider the fact that people will be buying for Christmas and other holidays soon, if not already, so the copies that have currently been sold aren’t static numbers.

People also need to accept the reality that COD is just more popular than Halo nowadays. This should be old news, because Halo hasn’t topped COD’s population for more than a few weeks since Halo 3.

They’re not just “freaking out” about the new zoom ability, but with several of Halo 5’s mechanics and overall visual aesthetic. Stop generalizing.

To be fair to him, one person just made a thread for that very purpose a few minutes ago.
Very easy for a few bad apples to spoil the bunch I guess.

For some reason that always seems to happen here.

The larger the pool, the more contaminants as they too increase proportionately, if not exponentially.
Same real-world concept applied on a smaller scale.

Agreed, this community pisses me off most of the time. The only two reasons why I am still here because I do not want another failure of a Halo game, and thought this community was hospitable, but ever since Nov. 10th…

*Everything changed when the fire nation attacked.*Jokes aside, I personally never had to deal with this -Yoink- until now. The Universe forums, my usual residence until late, had -Yoink-, but never to this level.

I hate getting into heated arguments with people here because of their tone towards me.

To be fair to them, you are kind of hot blooded, just more rational than the other beasts that inhabit here.

Then again, I have got into arguments that in a more rational state of mind I know are not worth my precious time and should be dedicating that time to my more pressing priorities.

CoD is just a more casual friendly game, pretty much anyone can pick it up and get some kills - its constant run and gun action is why it’s so popular. The quality of the game isn’t based on its sales, its sales is just based on how popular it is with the casual masses - like how free2play (freemium) games have been on such a big rise.
