Halo Wars 2 comes out at the end of February and as a Bonus 343i announced that people that pre-ordered the new game will be given Halo Wars Definitive Edition. Halo Wars came out 8 years ago and was the most successful and best rated console RTS to date. One the main features of the game and that of any RTS is On-Line Multiplayer, Matchmaking, Rankings & Leaderboards. For some reason 343i has decided to REMOVE these basic functions from Halo Wars Definitive Edition.
People playing Halo Wars Definitive Edition have had major issues with the team removing this function. While you can still play on-line, there is no matchmaking, no competiveness due to no ranking and you can have a team of 3 experienced players steam rolling random players since there is no trueskill and proper matchmaking. The same people that put down $80.00 to reserve the game are upset and many have decided to cancel the pre-order which is a loss sale for Halo Wars 2. Like Halo, the on-line portion is critical to the longevity of the game as many of us like to play to rank up, matchmaking etc. This basic element featured in almost every other RTS game, including the original Halo Wars no longer exist.
It seems that 343i is trying to kill Halo Wars 2 before it even comes out. People that are interested in HW2 that were fans of the original game was never told prior to the release of the DE version about these changes and some feel suckered by it and feel like they wasted money. My personal feelings is that 343i is setting HW2 up for failure. Why go through the trouble of making a DE when you take out the most important aspect of the game? It makes no sense and for many that are cancelling pre-orders it is going to make an impact on HW2.
As a fan of the game and someone that is looking forward to the new game, it is sad to see many people I personally know and have gamed in Halo Wars no longer deciding to get the new game because of the issues with the D.E. version and cancelling pre-orders. HW2 will live and die by the on-line functions/on-line community and if 343i is dropping the ball with D.E. and causing gamers to cancel pre-orders that is just going to make the community for the game smaller, which will impact the game.
