343i Killed Halo Wars

Halo Wars has been killed off by 343i

Just this week 343i shut down the Halowars.com website.

They released Halo Wars: Definitive Edition without proper Matchmaking.

They made it for PC and XB1 without Crossplay, to further split the community.

I personally feel that soon they will pull the plug on Halo Wars Online for the Xbox 360. Then they have finally done everything in their power to destroy Halo Wars. They didn’t replace Halo Wars with something better. They gave us HWDE which is far worse, to kill the game even more. It was an opportunity to make the population on Halo Wars so small, to finally kill the game. I feel that their goal all along was to kill the game off and force us to play their game Halo Wars 2. I’ve played the Beta, I’ve watched every video and have seen the Blitz mode. The truth is I personally think the game isn’t anywhere as good as Halo Wars. I think it would’ve been so much more in the hands of Ensemble studios.

Halo Wars has been my favorite game for years, I started playing it back as a freshman in High School. I’ve been playing for a long time, and have a made a lot of unexpected friends along the way. I learned a lot of things from the game, that has stuck with me in life. Wether it was from the people I met, or just problem solving tools for the real world. It kept me on a good path, away from bad things. I guess at this time it’s officially gone forever when Halo Wars 2 releases, which I’m not going to play. They’ve changed way too much, and it doesn’t feel like the original to me. I just think it’s a shame that they felt it was necessary to do all of these things. Halo 3 is a fan favorite game, I do understand it carried more population over the years. Except it has been playable longer than Halo Wars, even with many other Halo games coming out.

So Halo Wars DE doesn’t have matchmaking?

343i removed Online Multiplayer Matchmaking, and replaced it with Custum Games Browser.

http://halowars.com/ is still online, it hasn’t been shut down

For me the website isn’t working, and others are having the same issue. Some have told me the Game Stats aren’t working anymore either.

Wow, that’s terrible. Maybe they’ll implement one in the future.

You are a killjoy, I mean some of your points are true, but truth in my eyes isn’t possible yet because the game isn’t even out! I know you might hate it, but If Halo 4 was about Chief going back for one final round with the covenant, as they plan to destroy earth, it would’ve been a bust! We’ve seen that 3 times already and what we got wasn’t far off from fantastic, and I know that’s an unworthy example but I’m one of the humans in the community who enjoyed it and had fun, be it on the Multiplayer, Campaign, cutscenes, Spartan ops, everything, I learned to respect it once I realized how thoughtful and faithful the story was and what they wanted it to be, and the multiplayer? Well it was their first time making a Halo game, they didn’t know that. Halo 5 comes around and I’m shocked that everyone hated it so, and realized I was dumb for thinkin it’d be the best Halo Game of the year, the campaign was horribly written, whether it was the linear gameplay, or the story, or More importantly for me, the terribly choreographed cutscenes! After that experience I was skeptical, because this change wasn’t what we wanted, in fact, this game wasn’t supposed to change so much as it kept the formula, which it did (without sprint) in the multiplayer, but the Story featuring such a bland and thoughtless, Buck approved quadruple take on Chief who should have been given more levels, and an enemy who we rejected badly in the long run. I understand that, and I believe it considering the standards now… But With Halo Wars 2 coming back and the beta launched, and I jumped into the game, and immediately picked the covenant (banished) and saw the base design and absolutely rejected it! “This wasn’t the original! These bases aren’t covenant enough and I hate the -Yoinking!- unit design! Leader powers are stupid and the Story is probably going to be terrible too!”
I sat thinking that angrily for a few days before I finally thought “… This… This ISN’T Halo Wars, no, this is Halo Wars 2!” A new installment that I than came to realize was another creative stab at making a game that really catered something new that I haven’t seen for a while, and while the base design doesn’t bug me anymore, I can say the game has flaws, and it is different, with the whole power system, and the leader powers and such but other than that, it’s the same and extremely fun experience we had before now that they are increasing the population (Which I will admit, took a heavy hit with some of the units occupation being larger, I understand), and the new feedback points that they literally had us tell them in the community feedback survey! The covenant may not be the covenant anymore but that’s ok! Because things change, but there are still some fantastic reiterations, Elite rangers, grunts, marines, flamethrowers, they are all coming back and are looking better than ever! And haven’t even gotten to the story.
What I’m saying, is try it out again, with open eyes, and see what you think, but for the most part, I think its going to be fantastic on my end, but not even I know that for certain.
Nobody knows for certain yet, and you can rub it in my face all you want if its terrible in both our eyes!

Now I think you are exaggerating a little bit. 343 has not necesarily been promoting Halo Wars. And that is because of Halo Wars 2 obviously. Now I bought Pre-ordered Halo Wars 2 UE. And with Halo Wars DE I am not really that disapointed. And I have really come to like the game.

Like when I (and many others) first played the original beta. I did not like it due to it being all new and different. But now with the blitz beta, I understand the game more and I love it. Now I know not everybody will give new things a chance to try to form a valid opinion.

I guess what I’m really trying to say is if you will absolutely never like HW2 and where they are going to HW. Just keep playing HW for as long as you can and try to only make one rant thread about it.

Well I wouldn’t-I mean… I would l-… Yeah, what he said, don’t make a rant thread…

They removed matchmaking? :frowning:

Now who the hell told anyone that! I am going to play it tonight and prove you all wrong! Pfft, taking out matchmaking, that’s like takin out 30% put of the game, they wouldn’t do that.
Edit: They -Yoinking!- didn’t! You’re kidding me! I feel so stupid!
Edit EDIT: Oh ok never mind, guys! 343 responded to that thread and I’m pretty sure they are looking into it! Half the team was just on vacation!

Dosen’t he realise it’s still pre-release format? It’s effectively a Beta.

Exactly. Matchmaking will be up-n-running @release date.

343 had explicitly stated they replaced matchmaking with the the browser mode. If 343 changes their mind it is directly because of the complaints made here and elsewhere.

Well, seeing as HW:DE is in Early Access, it’s not impossible for them to add in a better Matchmaking system later. If i remember right, it does say in the menu screen at the bottom, that Halo Wars:DE is in early access and other features will come later. Whatever that could be, i don’t know.

I hate how 343 has to put a twist on every remaster they release. Why remove an essential part of the game?

Because they think they know better than their customers.

I feel like you’re just using such strong phrases to draw attention to your post. They didn’t kill it even slightly.

They just released a HD edition of your favorite game and this is how you thank them? It’s not even fully out yet, man. Halo Wars is in an early phase, because a lot of preorders haven’t actually payed for it yet because of how preorders work. Complain about it all you want, but that’s the way it is. Soon enough any problems with the game will be fixed and you’ll be able to knock yourself out.

Not only that, PC and XB1 crossplay would tear the community apart. You realize how much of an advantage someone on a mouse and keyboard would have, right? They are much more capable of micromanagment and precise orders which Halo Wars was not originally designed for. New strategies and tactics that weren’t imaginable on the 360 are now coming to light, but they’re just not available to XB1 players and would make the game very, very unpleasant for them.

I understand your need to vent, but you’d have a better outlook if you kept the issue in perspective.

Furthermore, I am willing to put good money that the moment you play Halo Wars 2 for real you’ll drop your opinion very quickly. I had your opinion before I played the Blitz Beta, but I came out of it with great confidence that the glory days of Halo will someday return, and Halo Wars 2 is going to be very good.

The main complaint is that 343 removed matchmaking.
