343i, I want to buy an Arum.

Can you guys please make an Arum puzzle to sell online and in stores? I’m sure it’s guaranteed to sell. If you make one, it will not only inspire Halo toy collectors to start reading the novels, but inspire the readers to collect more Halo stuff. I believe it’s a win win for everyone.

Would you buy an Arum if they sold them? If so, how much would you spend?

Arum info on Halopedia

Update: I believe the Arum was inspired by ancient Chinese Puzzle Balls.

Here’s another interesting link about Chinese Puzzle Balls.

Here’s one that sells for $13,203. Wow!

Hell yes, simply for the fact that a properly made Arum would be an awesome logic puzzle/game to play with.

The fact that it’s a neat piece of Halo - and specifically Sangheili - culture is a double-whammy.

I would expect it to cost maybe $20-30, depending on the quality of the materials, etc. I’m still stomaching student loans so I couldn’t afford to throw much more than that, however.

I could probably make an arum if I knew what it looked like more and the technical stuff.

Someone modeled what they think an Arum would look like. I’m surprised no one has tried to make a real one yet.

Considering my overwhelming obsession with rubiks cubes, I probably wouldn’t be able to stop myself from buying something like this.

I kinda doubt this will ever happen, but here’s hoping.

I would totally buy one. but not for more than like 20 bucks max I would think. totally a good idea.

20 bucks max? An Arum is a work of art as well.

HM… I could make something with some time… problem is, getting stuff smoothly rounded.

it really depends on material though. i imagine a plastic arum as its easiest and cheapest to produce thus the 20 bucks part. if it was made well it would certainly be worth it to pay more.

I’m sure someone with a 3D printer could make one. My impression from looking at that 3D model someone linked is that it doesn’t really look difficult at all.

o_O

I want one now!

See those ships? I made them. I wonder if I can pull off an Arum. But its art as well. What do you guys think?

If they were to make one they’d have to be careful with the difficulty of the puzzle.

This is a puzzle that most Sangheili find to be impossible.

If they make it too easy it’ll just be another way of saying that they’re dumb and I’ve had quite enough of that.

I’d really like it to be the kind of puzzle that will sitting on my shelf for years before I figure it out. But I suppose that’d be asking too much.

The hardest part would be making it as hard as it is described in the book. If they could figure out how (I’m sure the author has a good mental picture), then yeah this would be something awesome to own and one of the first real cultural items available to buy.

I would 100% buy that and crack my skull trying to solve it.

Hell yes. For Halo 5’s limited edition, maybe? They should make it similarly hard as a runic cube.

Cool. If you some how made a working Arum, I’d probably try to buy it from you. lol… Who knows, maybe even 343 would offer to buy the design from you.

I’ve been trying to research old Chinese wooden puzzles to get an idea on how an Arum could be made, or be inspired by.

EDIT: I think I found what inspired the Arum! Linky

I’m not going to say it shouldn’t be somewhat difficult, but please remember that Humans can easily open Arums because they’re Reclaimers and Arums are based on Forerunner origin.

As for the highlighted, you should actually be happy that quite a few Sangheili have been able to open Arums, because technically they’re not supposed to be able to. The fact that some can shows how amazing the Sangheili truly are.

It makes good sense to be based off Chinese puzzle balls - though puzzle balls are more for gentle tinkering with every now and then than serious play. No reason a more durable, inspired kind of puzzle ball couldn’t be constructed though.

I’d buy one or two.

I don’t recall there being any confirmation that Phillips is good with an Arum because of a geas.

Especially since Phillips has said that he finds Arums to be similar to puzzles he used to solve on Earth as well as him saying that not all Humans can solve Arums like he can.
