Allow me to explain - 343 hasn’t quite been able to appeal to it’s audience and community for Halo as a whole. Halo 4 (choking back vomit) was way too casual to be taken seriously by the fans of the original Halo trilogy, and Halo 5 sought to fix this by appealing to the competitive scene before anything else. I like Halo 5 a lot more than H4 (A LOT) and I loooove playing it competitively, but it is now totally lacking in an arena experience for social players. I’ve seen arguments that bronze and silver ranks are for social players, but here’s the problem - a guy like me wants to grind through platinum and diamond to get up to onyx and compete at the next level. He wants to warm up a little, maybe trying a new strategy, strafe, jump, etc. Doing this ‘warm up’ means there is a bit higher chance he might lose a game or two while getting ready to grind for ranks. EXCEPT HE CAN’T, because that will bring his rank down in whatever playlist he’s working on. There is no real social alternative except BTB, and I don’t think that those strategies are transferable to 4v4 arena, necessarily.
Halo 3 however, the pinnacle of the Halo population (according to some) had the answer. It had a list of social playlists AND ranked. It had different matchmaking rules for each. It had different game rules/modes for each. It had a different progression/ranking system for each. And you know what? Social and competitive gamers COEXISTED. A player like me could warm up in Social Slayer, not worrying about rank, and then switch to Team Slayer and compete at the proper level. You could try Rumble Pit before getting into Lone Wolves, ranked. Social playlists shouldn’t be excluded from a great competitive game, and 343i’s INSISTENCE on being different/controlling playlists like communists is taking away from what was a pretty good formula. It wasn’t perfect and some didn’t like it, but in Halo 3 days they were the minority. I have no clue why a similar menu/playlist system hasn’t been in place since Halo 3 (seems to fall under the category of ‘why fix something that wasn’t a problem’), it seems to me that we should be able to choose if we want to play socially or competitively or both. Am I the crazy one? Was Halo 3’s social and ranked playlist in matchmaking absolutely awful? I’d love to hear what you think
It’s not my fault you don’t understand the sarcasm enough to debate the real issue, but if you want to read and post something to debate said issue I’m happy to engage. Pettiness works too, very productive

I’ll be honest… I didn’t bother reading two walls of text. Bit of advice though, say that your being sarcastic because nobody can tell your tone from just reading text. Thats if you didn’t already include it.

Edgy? Just a rant on an issue that’s obviously prominent in H5. What’s edgy is the constant continued “drama” over one post that drags to others. Soon enough the top three featured posts are about that SAME post. gg.
I agree OP, social and competitive play should coexist in H5, especially when it comes to bans. Aside from that, I like H4&H5 but H5 seems like a chore.
343 admitted Halo 3 had the best retention rate in the series (meaning players logging long sessions). It was the pinnacle of the series in sales, population, and player retention. There is no debate. It’s a fact. Halo 2 sold more copies per Xbox, but when Halo 3 released it sold about the same proportion to how many 360 consoles were available at the time. So yeah, Halo 3 was the most successful Halo and it did not include sprint. Fact

This is exactly the same way I feel - I like the game, lots to like, but there are so many things missing it makes me wonder who the hell is making these decisions?? It would be so easy to improve the experience and retention…
I don’t like to poke holes in anything but in halo 3 if you loss 5 matches in row in any of the Social play lists you start loss exp I have been there. As for 343 hateing halo 3 i beleve that they do not just halo 3 but CE and 2. In Halo CE they did not bother to remake the multplay insted they slapped half Halo reach to it wich was very lazy and was not worth the £30 when it came out
