CSR will be arriving on April 8th as many of you already know. But my question here today is do you guys really think this game is ready for?
Now im not saying I don’t want ranks, but this game is still to broken. I thought by now this game would be fixed. Hell, it should’ve been ready on release. This is the downfall of not having a beta and letting the people who made the game test it. Of course they’re going thinks its good, they made it lol.
But OT, CSR will not work because:
-Jip is still available in ALL playlist. I read where someone said its only available in a few, where have you been since release? Nobody wants to join a game halfway done and end up losing because that.
- You can back out of the pre-game lobby. Idk who’s idea this was , but this really hurt the game. You can basically pick your match ups. For ex: My friends and I search a fairly amount in SWAT. Now we do not lose , like at all. Very rarely. So we eventually end up matching the same people. So when they see us, they start backing at, repeatedly and it doesn’t count towards your win-loss. This is a HUGE problem. People will be able to pick their matches. They can just back out against opponents they know they cant win against.
-Instant respawn. I don’t think I even need to go into detail on how this ruins gameplay. It certainly has no place for competitive gametypes and that’s what CSR supposed to do. Make more evenly matched games and add some competitiveness to it.
Anything else I missed? Discuss
Edit: You can search the max party size in all the playlist except throwdown LMAO. This game is a joke
They’re treating CSR more as a half-baked olive branch to appease the competitive community from what I understand, which is fundamentally flawed given it’s available in every playlist and isn’t visible in game. (I can already picture the “wow, what’s your 50 in kid, Action Sack?” comments in lobbies… lol)
But yeah, join in progress+instant respawn=/=a usable competitive skill ranking system. The lobby deserting problem is the cherry on top. Why try playing good players when you can pubstomp randoms for an invisible meaningless 50 in this game? Did they honestly not see the issues this would have coming? If not and they just don’t get it, why wasn’t this at least available on launch if it’s not going to mean much anyway? I really don’t get it. They literally could have copied Halo 3’s “ranked/social” system with playlists and added visible CSR for ranked and I would have been perfectly happy. Maybe Reach’s Arena “top x% in division” thing for ranks too. “Top 1% of level 50s” would be neat, haha.
One last potential issue: I’ve heard nothing about whether the new CSR system is factoring in the supposed invisible TruSkill matching or not. I know everyone’s supposed to start fresh at level 1, but it’d be A LOT easier to rank up playing against a completely leveled skill field where everyone’s level 1 in TruSkill. I can imagine a lot of problems with good players getting rank locked because they lose games for their CSR earlier on since the invisible TruSkill is still matching them with other high skill players. If they don’t reset the searching parameters too or make those values weighted into CSR, there’s probably going to be a -blam!-storm on the forums about pro-tier players getting rank locked shy of 50 because they constantly play other pro-tier players while mediocre players get 50s because they had a way easier time beating randoms and guests. Hopefully I’m just being worrisome and 343 knows what they’re doing, but the track record with this game and the Reach playlist “fixes” don’t exactly inspire confidence for me… we’ll see.

Why would you back out when you can’t see their rank? Ranks are only visible on waypoint. How would you even know you can’t win and need to back out?

From what I’ve seen, players just eyeball the other player’s stats/stances/armor and if they look intimidating at all or if they think they’ll put up a good fight, they back out. This happens A LOT in doubles and team throwdown. Besides, with CSR, you could have a tablet/smartphone out and search the players stats in the lobby before going to the game. I know some players that search the leaderboards on Halotracker to look for names in lobbies for certain playlists already, haha. Backing out in the lobby was a terrible design choice for this game in my opinion. If you’re going to wuss out in the lobby, you should at least have to dashboard or something, it shouldn’t be an intentional feature to abandon a lobby you think will be difficult. That’s how you improve your game.
The most constructive games I’ve played in H4 are the ones where we get our rears handed to us by a good team in AGL customs/GB matches/throwdown or doubles. You can learn a lot about how to improve your game by being punished for your mistakes by higher skilled players. I like to think I’m a decent competitive player, but I’ve gotten humbled like that more than I’d like to admit… haha.

Ok go back and read what said. If you’ve already faced somebody in the past and you run into them again with their same team. People just back out because they already know they’re going to lose
Since the days of Bungie and Halo 3 enabling Living Dead & Griffball ranked playlists I’ve been open to just about anything in terms of ranked players and Halo. I’ll also never forget the Halo 2 ranks being totally meaningless due to cheaters of many varieties.
I’d prefer a more hardcore focus with ranks and the social/ranked aspects of Halo 3 when it launched and prior to the double EXP ranked weekends of Living Dead/Grifball. My preference updates to Halo 4 as well, I’d prefer ranked playlists without JiP or guests for example so I’m curious how that’s going to play out nowadays. I suspect it’s basically just the playlist settings e.g. new Throwdown = JiP = disabled, instant respawn = disabled so the hardcore want 50’s in that playlist specifically.
However when you look at the larger aspects not all players have regular teams or like to practice 8 hours a day so why shouldn’t their respective playlists be ranked as well? Many just don’t like the settings of say Throwdown so why not rank Infinity Slayer as well? They have separated ranks after all.
If the strictness of rank was so important then the Reach’s Arena on paper design was far superior to the 1-50 systems, eliminated continuous highest rank (reducing boosters, cheaters etc) and attempted to move away from rank lock etc. Reach’s Arena should have been far more popular if ranked play “fairness” was so paramount for online multiplayer.
Beyond that in terms of ranked or skill fairness when we’re playing on a global Internet scale why consider rank a fair thing anyhow? There is host advantage, regular team vs. randoms advantage, cheating, online latency and too many factors to list. So I ask what is the relevancy when it’s not even accurate by any measure?
For me if you’re that “serious” about rank you should be attending AGL (or ACL for Australia for example) and any other LAN based controlled and referee run events with their own ranking systems. This is the home of true professional Halo gamers and is based far more in the reality of fairness than anything based within online multiplayer.
