As of right now, anyone can save a map that isn’t made by them, make changes to the map, and save it as their own.
File details do not include who created the map.
This, along with the fact that saved files are uploaded to fileshares immediately.
I don’t want to make a map and then people save it claiming that they made it…
This is a huge issue and needs to be fixed immediately.
I agree, it’s pretty crazy that they overlooked that, some people put a lot of hard work into maps, and right now there is NO way to put a permanent ‘I made this’ sticker on it, at least none that I can find, other than hiding some sort of trademark on the map that only the original owner would know existed, but that seems extreme.
Well this might not work when saved over, but if ,say, you download my half built map right now and I finished it later, then the finished map would update your copy as well. Kinda significant, doesnt really show ownership, but theres that.
Temporary solution: hide an object on the map or somehow do something other people wouldn’t be able to really check. Could be a simple using a certain piece to write your name somewhere you would never see it.
interesting… so you could possibly have a little fun if somebody downloaded your map and acted like it was theirs by just changing it completely? doubt that’d be worth losing a map for, might be funny to do once though.

Yeah, I don’t think this method works if someone saves a new copy.
I haven’t tested it out so I’m not sure.

Yeah, I thought about that. Seems like the only way.
I created a couple classic gamemodes that play like CE and Halo 3 and was looking for maps, since I’m not much of a forger, and I found two good ones. So I got them and did a little work on them (mostly weapon placement, lighting, making it look and play as close to the original as possible).
Then I saved them, only to find out that I was credited as the creator and I was not comfortable with that, so I went into the map description and put “created by [gamertag]” just to give credit where it’s due.
Even when I made a thread HERE to share the gametype, I made sure I explained that I didn’t create the maps and was only using them to compliment the gametype and gave full credit to the creators.
So not everyone who uses forge creator’s work are stealing. Really, we’re just enjoying your work. That’s why you guys forge, right? So people can play Halo on your maps. And that’s why I made sure once I realized this issue to keep the creator’s name in the map description.

I’m completely fine with people modifying my maps and making their own versions but it’s not right that the game doesn’t credit who originally made them. It’s the fact that it’s possible to forget the original author that’s crazy especially for those who work insanely hard forging.

I know. I’m just letting you know that some of us are on your side and hopefully we can get people in the habit of sticking the forger’s gamertag in the map description until they fix it. Although … honestly … knowing kids … they’re going to want to say they created the maps, aren’t they?
Off topic. I enjoy your sig, Mr. Martini.
Back on topic. I assume this was just an oversight. I can’t see this being an intentional shortcoming. Either way, it definitely needs to be fixed.

Yeah exactly the problem. It’s nice to know there’s people like you on our side though
Thank you
-What if I just absolutely -Yoink- all over someone’s map and distribute it under their name as if they were responsible for it?
-What if someone made a sort of canvas map for people to work on?
Best solution, have the map always display the “Original Creator”, then anyone else can change the map, edit the title, and have “Edited By” displayed under Original Creator.

The best way to do it would be to use pieces you already have on the map so then it’s impossible to delete them without deleting chunks of the map (using the “select all of this” feature). I discovered that clear glass colored “black” is completely invisible, so if you use that piece a few times then make some black glass and write your name somewhere far off into the map.
Blank canvas maps should be provided by 343i. I never understood why they never did that. I think that the original creator should be allowed to lock/unlock the “original creator” of a map. That way if they are creating a template, they can keep it in an “unlocked” state so the next person can use the template and get credit for their creation.
