343i defenders

I’m very curious to know how old some of these staunch 343i/Halo 5 defenders are. I’ve been burning time reading through the forums on here and reddit and cant help but think that many of the people defending this game and the studio that made it are just in a different generation than me. I’m only 25 so its not like I’m some wise old owl but some of the -Yoink- I see people saying about Halo 5 and 343 cannot possibly come from somebody who remembers the Halo CE and Halo 2 live days well. I just think that the younger community doesn’t really understand the frustration with this game. I see the ‘if you dont like it leave’ attitude and that only reinforces my opinion. I genuinely think that the younger generation doesn’t care enough about the blatant and obvious business ploys with H5 to let it play a factor in their opinion of the game. The soft release, the micro transaction system, the misleading ad campaign that costed a fortune, the content drip… its all business ploys.
I dont know the numbers but I would venture to say that if you looked at the Halo project budgets across all of the releases there wouldn’t be a big enough deviation to justify this level of missing content. Further, if you had the numbers for the monthly revenue being brought in from REQs I bet they wouldn’t justify the lack of actual content coming in these monthly DLC drops. I also dont think a 13 year old would give a -Yoink- about that. Which is my point.
Am I a cynical old -Yoink- or could an age gap correlate with the people defending 343?

ditto I am 19 and I have voiced some opinions regarding some of 343i’s actions. I am a neutral fan, but I have started drifting more towards the people upset. there were a lot of bombs dropped with little to no warning so when some defender says “do your research” it sets me off. That is not to say that all defenders are bad, some of them can be quite moderate and actually worthy of respecting. both sides will have their bad eggs, best to move on and hope that the right voice is heard in this crap storm of comments.

Google “stockholm syndrome” if you don’t already know what it is.

LOL,

I’m older than both of you combined… :-S
Yeah, I believe just like the OP than anyone who has played Halo from day one, ie, core fanbase, feels very cheated with the way 343 has changed Halo. Great post OP

Not everyone. And liking the game doesn’t make one to be a 343 defender, as the OP implies.

I started playing Halo just before Reach was out and I feel like 343 is lacking with the content. I used to defend them but I started realizing how ludicrous they can be.

The vet has spoken, feel honored, my fellow scrubs… this man has seen some Yoink. XD

I think you’re a bit cynical. I’m 28 and have been playing Halo since day 1 of CE. I like H5 and think that 343 has done more good than bad with it (I think the gameplay is consistent with Halo and a pretty much perfect way of modernizing it). The claimed lack of content doesn’t bother me, granted I only started playing after Christmas and only play a few hours a week. I can understand the frustration, I just think people go overboard with it. Jumping to the conclusion that 343 is corrupt or inept is a going to far. I think the lack of content is nothing compared the turd that is Destiny, so it could be worse.

Personally, my theory is that 343 probably had some development problems between making H5 and making/fixing MCC. Either that or they miscalculated the amount of content they could put off for later rollout so as to keep people coming back.

I’m positive that this is the case man. You must remember that when we grew up gaming was very very different! It wasnt big business back then it was still considered a toy by most of the casual market. These days a huge portion of the market has a console in their home if not 2 or 3. These kids have only ever seen these sort of business practices so they think its normal. They don’t know the days when you used to get a FULL and polished game for your money. Like halo 2…you got a full campaign…an amazing multiplayer experience…and it was all there…the extra map pack was sold on a disc so one of your friends could buy it and share it with the whole group which is what I did with my friends haha. On top of all of that…you have the changes in gameplay that deviates so much from what halo ever was that it scared off a lot of the die hard community members that are our age (I’m 29)…Ever since the series started to “evolve” the population has dropped off further and further.

I personally love this game, but I don’t defend 343. They’ve made SO many wrong choices as far as what to release as DLC and what to include in the base game that I really can’t defend them.

I dont mean to imply that. I like the game and play it almost every night. Im not talking about the passive community who likes the game, stays quite or even just says “I like it”. Im talking about the people who flat out defend 343 with arguments that cant be rationally made by somebody who has played the game from the start.

I’m 27, love the game, and a fan since the days of CE.

My only gripe currently with H5 is the content updates… BTB was good. We need more playlist variety though.

Age is irrelevant. Just because someone is enjoying the game and isn’t jumping on the anti-343 bandwagons doesn’t make them the defence force or mean they must be super young or haven’t played other games.

This kind of discussion doesn’t do anything except to drive a wedge between everyone in the community. People from all walks of life enjoy Halo and that comes from every age group as well.
