They’ve changed it. To be honest I liked the original better. I knew something was off when I watched the IGN video the first time, but it wasn’t until I compared the two that I noticed how different they were.
I was under the impression that all this game was, was a visually updated game of Halo Combat Evolved. But it seems like they’ve completely redone the cutscenes - With different camera angles and different movements.
Master Chief doesn’t even hold the dead Marine the same. In the original he was protecting the body (In a way), but in the new cutscene he seems to be using it as a Human shield.
This makes me sad.
Edit. I understand if some think I’m grasping at straws to complain about 343i, but this is legit.
And a post from later on in the thread that I like:
> Hmm, there’s less shots and cuts. And the angles aren’t as good as they used to be. Before there was more close ups making the scene more personal. And the loss of the tilted angle makes the scene less abstract. It’s the really small things that matter. Those who say it looks better aren’t looking at the fine detail.

> All these elements come together to make a scene, so losing this detail is a disappointment. Unless this is an old build, I assume that what we’ve seen won’t be changed sadly. So hopefully the soundtrack can still carry it.

I think it looks good. The marine falling through the door needs to be fixed, though; at present he stands there for a second, and then begins to fall. I wonder whether the cutscenes in Classic mode will play like the old or the new.
The way the Chief holds the marine is also a little odd, hopefully that can be fixed up.
To be honest I felt as though the original cutscene was slower… and I liked the newer one a bit better… just felt better at times… but I also liked some things about the original more…
> He moves more naturally now. All the cutscene animations were really robotic in Halo CE.
Which is the reason I’m happy for the change (look at that crouch walk, so much better). That extra shot of him tapping on the AR’s grip with his fingers as he waits for potential danger is quite neat, too.

Mmmm.
The cutscenes are about the same length. Unless you’re talking about things that are happening on screen, in which case I’d tell you that the actual cutscene was supposed to build up suspense by being ‘slow’ (Not that I’d consider it slow anyway). Just listen to the music.
The only problem I had with it was that his AR kept clipping through his chest and when he put his hand in the helmet to pull out the chip he missed and had nothing in his hand.

They said in one of the videos that the build they were using at Halo Fest didn’t have music.
Hot damn i like what theyve done with the helmet now. MC mk. 5 is lookin FINE.
And overall i think the scene is better now. This touches upon a concern ive had with the CEA development process, that the 2011 graphics would be marred by the somewhat clunky 2001 animation, especially during cutscenes and it would end up looking a bit silly. It seems 343i spotted this early on and are obviously redoing the cutscene animations with mocap no less! 343i i am impress!
Master still looks way too blocky, especially in HD. The only reason he was so blocky back then is because the graphics “stunk” back than. If you want to see a more modern MK V, look no further than Halo: Reach.
