Honestly, all of this monetization talk and free-to-play business models, challenge and battle pass systems make me yearn for the gaming of t he past. I am at a loss for words that will accurately describe my apprehension of the future of gaming. I have several points but since some do not apply to Halo Infinite I don’t think it would be appropriate to list them here on this forum. I just wanted to get how uncomfortable and scared I am for the future of gaming off of my chest.
Honestly, indie gaming. AAA is going to take itself out back with a shotgun at this rate.
its just too much to justify buying, there isnt enough compared to other games, $20 for something you can barely customize is crazy. half the price i would be ok with, with how little customization there actually is.
Doesn’t fill me with the warm fuzzies either, but sadly with the consumer majority refusing to pay much over $60 for a game (even though that price is totally out of step with AAA development costs) and alternative methods of revenue generation like microtransactions proving so successful we’re likely not going to see any real deviation from this. At best consumer pushback may prevent it from getting worse or help ensure that the base content is somewhat more comprehensive.
Only real way this stops is if the practice starts costing money, and in the here an now that’s far from happening with people who balk at an $80 game consistently going on to shelll out twice that on microtransactions in an FTP game, and those on the other end of the argument trying to make a moral discussion out of business practices and basic economics.
I dont think its 343i’s fault for the store prices. Microsoft hired a “Monetisation/Psychology expert” for Infinite back in 2018, when Infinite was announced to be Live Service.
Again, not making a moral argument, just the claim that their moral irresponsibility (which is already a given) will kill this game. And it will.
Maybe, but I don’t know any other Microsoft franchise that’s milked like this and it’s strange to me that they would risk such immense bad press around their baby. Microsoft has also been very “for the players” for the past few years. If anything, this misstep aligns with 343i’s many Halo missteps much more than it does with recent Microsoft.
Not to mention, that doesn’t explain away or excuse the blatant lies, or at least intentional misdirection, about how they were removing fomo, how to unlock the samurai armor, etc
Lol solid in gameplay…. You guys are delusional if you think being denied armor options and flashy colors are the reason this game sucks. The game was DOA when they decided to add clamber, keep sprint, keep grenade hit markers, and keep a high TTK. The game is not competitive and there is no skill gap. Game will plummet after the holidays. Sucks to say but why should we expect anything else with a company that has yet to launch a successful title?
I dont see how clamber ruins a game. I dont care about hitmarkers, and sprint is practically useless here
number company features bad bungo good
Nobody said the game sucks but you, so go ahead Mr. Stinkypants with your edgy take on why the game is DOA. Gameplay is the best 343 has done, and is comparable to Bungie. Armor has always been important to Halo players and it’s unfortunate to see that cosmetics are no longer tied to some type of in game feat, but instead to a wallet.
Everything evolves. Clamber is great imo and grenade hit markers are less so, but you’re grasping at straws. Who hurt you?
Also the BR is and always has been a four burst kill. AR is a smidge too powerful and the pulse carbine is absolute garbage. TTK is only high because of the AR.
Okay wow you are trying way to hard to be an edge lord like really too hard
I’m not getting the ar nerf it’s finally in a useful spot and now people want out of that spot
I just don’t get it?
Idk. I feel like due to the low amount of skill it takes to use the AR it should be less powerful. Damage isn’t the issue. That thing has range and is way more powerful than any AR in Halo history. It’s annoying to get sprayed down by it from way too far away.
We’ll I can understand be peppered by it but still it’s in a useable spot and yet folks want like past ars like can we not and leave it as it is please
I just want my ODST gear.
Right now it beats shotgun up close and battle rifle in mid. It shouldn’t do either lol
yeah today the store was great… too bad most of the stuff should be on the Battlepass or at a decent price.
Still i saw someone today with the winner pose that was in one of those expensive bundles. Some people just want to get robbed i guess
This “literal fluff” used to be in game unlockable content that was turned into dollar signs by 343. Part of the allure of old halo games was the ability to unlock and the choice to equip these armors. For a company that is so much about " player expression" they really like to make that a damn near impossibility for anyone who is not purchasing content. It is toxic, no matter which way you look at it.
At this point, I’m sure most would rather pay $60 for a finished game than this nonsense lol. Regardless, I don’t want to hear any of this drivel. Game devs nowadays have: an increased budget (a supposed 500 mil in 343’s case), much more information, increased exposure, and modern technology. Good games will always turn a profit. It’s about squeezing more profit from them, in this case, in avenues which area already available (skins, armors, coatings, etc).
In all, it is a painful progression system that has been put in place and it will hurt halo unless 343 does something about it quickly.f
…New game. Still wants discounts because of black friday. Dear god, the entitlement is ridiculous.
Clamber increases randomness to a game, increase in randomness means a decrease in skill it takes to get kills, not really hard to comprehend. Grenade hit markers are also a risk free way of finding out where players are behind corners, which takes away the skill of map awareness. Last of all you proved my point in what you said about sprint. Why don’t they just remove it then?
A lot of people brought up that Gears of War 5 suffered a very similar fate, that Halo is in right now, at launch.
