The marketing for Infinate has been abysmal. You can’t tell the community that you’re going to change a system that’s been in place since the series inception and then not explain what that means and how it changes the game. I’m someone who’s not necessarily against the armor coatings, if I’m being honest. I think that it’s potentially a very cool change. But saying that you’re changing an existing system and not going any deeper than that can only lead people to speculate, and speculation with a game and series that’s been under fire for a decade now is only going to leave a bad taste in people’s mouths.
343i has done very little since they took over to inspire confidence. This seems like the kind of thing where they can use this as a platform to better explain how the microtransactions are going to work, or at least how these specifically are going to work. You can’t just say, “we’re taking control away from you. It’s going to be awesome. Talk to you again about it in 3 months.” That’s not how marketing works, and also shows that they have very little idea of what the community likes and is looking forward to.
This is entirely savable. They just need to pull their heads out of their -Yoinks!-.
