A lot of us in the MLG community believe that the company should be involved somewhat with the development of the Halo 4 multiplayer experience, offline and online.
Major League Gaming is a huge organization that allows gamers to compete at a higher level, and earn money doing so. The biggest problem with our community is that the settings aren’t the usual settings that the casual players play, Halo 2, Halo 3, and also Halo: Reach.
What we want in the Competitive Halo community is that the organization that supports your game the people that play it allow people from Major League Gaming to work together with the staff at 343i that is developing the multiplayer. The reason is to help it becoming the biggest competitive/casual game that has ever hit console. Not only will it help with us getting more people to play at our Halo events and to join our community, but it will also help YOU with being able to understand what is happening and to have more people playing it instead of dropping it after a couple weeks of playing it.
Help US, help YOU! Let Major League Gaming join 343i with the development of the Halo 4 multiplayer. We aren’t asking to control all parts of the game, we just want a couple people to help with what the competitive scene wants in the game.
Post here about what you think, your suggestions to make Halo 4 multiplayer great for competitive gamers, and what you enjoy about competitive Halo!
Alot of the casual players that are on this forum make us MLG players look like jerks. Just because we like different settings doesn’t make us different, we want Halo 4 to be just as successful as 1/2… The competitive settings doesn’t make MLG better, just more competitive. Maybe if you try them you would like them If you don’t like them, just watch, it can be just as fun
Yes. I am trying to promote this idea because I want us both to be able to play on the same stage, with the same settings. I want us all to be the same, not to be different because of settings.
In order for us to play the same settings we need co-operation from both communities. if 343i makes symmetrical maps that can be actually used in a competitive setting (which they are completely capable of) all that would have to be changed is the random weapon times Frankie was talking about. If all MLG has to do is tweak a few things, we can bring the communities together. Just because we have different maps and settings doesn’t mean we don’t want to use the maps Bungie gave us. We would love to, but we can’t since they were poorly made. 343i can turn this all around.
> im fine with some input so long as they dont try to force what they want on to me,

This is the mindset the rest of the casual community should have. “I don’t like to play it, but I gave it a shot” and that resulted in you liking to watch it. What I hate to see is “That kids I played in Slayer last week had MLG in his name, and he trash talked me. Therefore MLG is bad and the players are stupid jerks.” And I see it a lot.
I just love Halo. Both communities just want to see Halo be successful. I wish everyone could experience an MLG event. Its just a great place to gather hang out with other people who share a real passion for the game. I’d love more than anything to see Halo go main stream and I’m sure a lot of people here on the waypoint forums would too. MLG is an amazing opportunity to make that happen. Hopefully we can all work together to make that happen. I wish MLG Halo could be very similar to default settings but it has to be as competitive as possible. Maybe Halo 4 will be able to bring the communities closer together.
I disagree because I have been to MLG and it’s not what it seems. I now understand why MLG fanboys mimic the so called MLG pros. I can name a whole bunch of reasons why 343 should not partner with MLG. The bottom line is MLG cannot be trusted!
Honestly I can’t even see alot of casuals knowing the difference. I know some people that don’t even know what bloom is still, and they play Halo every night. I think if MLG helped balance Halo 4, it would have a big sandbox still because all weapons would be given more purpose and less overlap, and it’d have great maps for both competitive and casual play. I think alot of people are still standoffish by MLG though because they get destroyed by 4 man teams that know all the rules…which would be easily fixed with a RANKING SYSTEM…so everyone can enjoy the game at their level. Casuals can play a competitive game, competitive people can’t play a casual game, all you need is a ranking system and balanced weapon system and everyone is happy.
…Or I could have just said Starcraft 2 lol
P.S. If anything just get Ogre 2 in there, he’s knows Halo so well it’s scary…or Walshy;)
Agreed OP, although its ultimately up to 343i and MLG to work things out I know a large majority of the community wants to have a more united community once again and having the MLG staff/players test the game and give their input on the competitive settings would go a long way in making a statement that our community is united and that all parts will be included. I know Blizzard has partnered with MLG and they have a great relationship, having the flagship game of MLG’s developer have some interaction as it has been in the past would only make sense and be beneficial to both sides and the community at large.
Competitive gaming only lengthens the amount of time the disk is still in the xbox 360 tray and not in the used game market. However it should be done smart, you can’t just have competitive settings for everyone, there needs to be a middle ground where people can just relax and play for fun, and where people can be able to play to win.
Halo 4 just really needs to be good out of the box. The reason why I spent most of my time on the Halo series was that if two people face off against each other the person with a higher skill would win. I am not the best player in the game, far from it, but I appreciate the fact that if I lost, I lost not based on EXP, or weapon customization like call of duty, but on aiming, intelligence, teamwork, and raw instinct.

yeah the tryhards really ruin the MLG image,
its where the bad reputation comes from and whilst the pro’s can be like that at times most of the MLG community are pretty friendly xD
on a side note please don’t use the term casual its really not accurate since i’ve put more time into halo then most competitive players (not flaming just really dont like the casual branding),
social is much a much better name for me since i play wherever my group decides to play on a given day/night
