I haven’t completed the campaign yet (just now getting to the digsite), however I’m curious as to the metric with which you’re claiming it’s the “most barebones”? Especially placed next to the “Classic Three”, I don’t really see how this can be said. Already, the 28% that I’ve played has more depth than - I would say - Halo: CE and Halo 3.
you can really tell what parts joe worked on and what he didn’t have time to fix
no I hate assassinations they to flashy 80% of the time they get you killed in MP, i prefer the good old fist to the back of the skull.
None of it. Joe joined on as the Creative Director, he didn’t directly work on anything.
They nailed the gameplay, AI and design of the Elites.
That’s kind of the point of assassinations they’re meant to be flashy Halo 5 went a little overboard with the flashiness but that’s the point and you also don’t have to perform assassinations if you just tap the melee button you won’t perform an assassination
The banished are just covenant 2.0 but without any of the covenant’s racism/ class hierarchy and religious dogma, and I’m not sure how far you are in the story but only 3 of the 10+ main bosses (not the high value targets) actually advance the story the rest seem to be there to make the main campaign/ story seem longer than it really is.
Well that explains the hell out of the, “tell, dont show” mentality present through out most of the “cutscenes”
i finished the campaign, both the explanation and how it was explained were BS
It’s definitely a solid campaign, the core gameplay is tight, the forerunner architecture is near perfect, and there are plenty of cutscenes with excellent characterization, but I do have some criticisms:
- Ending is pretty anticlimactic (again)
- The linear missions strictly make use of indoor environments, so there’s no vehicle sections woven into them and that kind of messes up the flow of it all.
- Speaking of vehicles, I don’t think they’re utilized enough. Banished camps don’t always have ghosts or choppers with them, and it took forever for Banshees and Wraiths to show up.
- Many were concerned about this prior to release and they were correct- there’s not enough variety in the biomes. It’s either the foresty Pacific Northwest, a Banished stronghold, or Forerunner interiors. No deserts, snow, etc. (This is where we need DLC)
- Sandbox is too small, feels like every Elite has a pulse carbine for example
- Fusion Coils are EVERYWHERE, which is amusing at first, but then when you’re pinned down by a jackal sniper and you realize you can just shoot the big glowing cube next to him once to blast him across the ring, it takes the challenge out of it.
- There’s a real lack of mind-blowing set pieces in the sky. I’m talking about things like In Amber Clad blasting by you in High Charity in Halo 2, the storm building around the portal to the Ark in Halo 3, the Covenant Super Carrier annihilating the frigate in Halo Reach, Earth coming into view during the finale of Halo 4, even Halo 5 had the Kraken and Guardians capturing your attention during the gameplay. I feel like Infinite’s campaign is almost void of these huge events occurring as you play. And a lot of it happens off screen too (like the Ring breaking).
I disagree. I’m not far enough in to comment on the story but they dropped the ball on the gameplay. It’s just another generic AAA game with a Halo skin on it now. Beyond basic repetitive side missions pasted everywhere all over the map and tied to basic progression to pad gametime, cosmetics and spartan cores (more basic progression to pad gametime.) “Hidden for you to find” (just on your map for you to slap a marker on and go to like any other AAA open world game), main missions feel smaller and less exciting since they’re all crammed on the main map instead of tailor made for the experience they wanted it to give, no environmental variety (really 343 not even different biomes? Guess we’ll get those in future $60 campaigns since halo infinite is the “platform” for all future halos.)
The sandbox feels bad too, most weapons feel weak and the handful of usable ones all support the same playstyles. And maybe I just suck but on heroic trying to do any unique weapon/ability combo’s to try and switch up my playstyle just gets me killed. The only two ways that consistently worm are sniping or grapple spamming with a melee weapon. All of this plus way less weapons and vehicles than previous titles, in the one that’s supposed to be the most sandboxy.
It’s really hard to like it over older linear halos when those ones still provided open, explorable levels with plenty of Easter eggs and the freedom to approach things how you want to as well. Trading in games that were a mile wide & deep for something a mile and a half wide and an inch deep.
TLDR:I disagree with OP, Infinite campaign is just typical modern AAA garbage served on a halo platter.
They explained it in a way where it wasn’t intrusive on the main story for infinite. Remember this game is more of a spiritual reboot rather than a true sequel.
If you didn’t like the way they did it explain I would like to know
Ah yes, why pay for a $60 game when you could have a crappy version of the multiplayer for free and then pay $60 a year for campaigns a third of the size of the ones they used to include in $60 games with the multiplayer.
The DLC’s will not be $60, your reaching.
What we have no is probably 1/10th of the actual content they will release for this game in the coming years.
Definitely not a lesson just from AC. Any open world AAA game, multiplayer or not, takes their pages from the same book. Spongy enemies for the “challenge” (also don’t have to work as hard on AI) crappy repetitive side quests copy-pasted everywhere, and “secrets” (basic progression mechanics like spartan cores) spread around to find and pad game time. It’s an issue with the industry rn tbh.
Infinite was a great experience. However, it is also true that there is something missing.
It may be unavoidable that the arbiter did not come out this time,
The richness of HALO’s universe is that there are various aliens.
The 343 always downplays it.
In this case, the depiction of Banished’s character is overwhelmingly light, and I don’t feel that they are enough to hunt down humanity.
It’s not just about Spartans.
Arbiter playable is what I expect most.
But the story of the Master Chief and Cortana was great.
The Japanese translation has a completely different line from the line that is conscious of HALO3.
There are problems peculiar to Japan, and it is fatal because Japanese people value their emotions.
This is the responsibility of audio director Tojima, so it can’t be helped.
I love the members of Atriox and Banished, so
The depiction in Infinite is light and unsatisfactory,
But,It is a great pleasure to see their existence in a large size.
I wish them good luck with their destiny.
Yeah but why? Arbiter is still on Sanghelios (however you spell it) so how would that make any sense story wise? How would it be connected? I can understand if this were Halo 5, but Infinite wouldn’t make much sense.
I understand that this story focuses on the Master Chief.
But when humanity is in dire straits, if the situation is likely to put them at risk.
The arbiter will wield his own sword.
His army is a friend of mankind.
I think it’s possible that he will face a new threat.
I dont know if they’ll be considered dlc, though. Infinite is the platform for all future halo games, what’s stopping them from releasing bare-bones experiences like the infinite campaign for $60 down the line?
Supply and Demand?
The argument about them releasing more bare bones DLC is also kinda pointless, like the game itself is bare bones and anything they add will improve that aspect.
