343 your challenges are not fun

Like the title says, I’m not having fun with the current system of challenges. Having spent a few hours playing, I grinded through the early challenges to hit a wall, “do this exact action in pvp” meaning my game play style has to change to try and complete this, something detrimental to my team in some cases. The gametype specific challenges for completing a game would be ok if I could just jump into that gametype whenever I wanted but I can’t and so must rely on random number generator to give me that gametype. Simpler challenges similar to reach and mcc would go a long way toward making this more fun, and more than just complete matches for a daily challenge as " kill x number of enemies" would be an easy extra that players could work for as well. I hope you guys take this as I intend it as a dialog from a frustrated player asking for relief from stress, and not an addition to it.

This. The challenges are very specific, causing us to HAVE to play around these challenges rather than to win the game. For instance, the “goose juice” challenge. Normally, the gungoose would be a better way to transport a teammate to/from an objective… however, if the driver of the gungoose has the “goose juice” challenge, they are far less inclined to play for objectives until they fulfill the “15 kills with gungoose grenade launcher” requirements. It also feels bad to HAVE to camp a specific weapon spawn to get X amount of kills with Y weapon: “oh, we’re losing point C? guess it’ll have to wait until the Striker rifle respawns. Oops, they took point C and are about to win the game; I’ll just try to frag a few players to complete the challenge instead of helping my team”.

It’s just a fundamentally bad design for Halo. This type of challenge works for games like CoD or BF where you can CHOOSE your weapon loadout so you aren’t spending 3/4ths of the game trying to acquire the specific weapon or vehicle.

Yup, you hit the nail on the head. It wouldn’t be so bad if the challenges were more general and less specific, like earn 5 ballistic kills or 5 plasma kills or 5 objective medals or something for the battle pass progression, and since there is no way to earn spartan credits at the moment, the specific challenges we have now would be good for small (5 - 10 credits per challenge completed) reward this way for players short on cash or for over seas markets that frown on in game spending

Previous commenter here: I logged out of whatever account it logged me in to (it keeps showing a different name as the poster of my previous comment? not sure if its just me)

I Agree with the more general challenges that you have presented. In fact, I would even approve of some that are a little less general; OBJECTIVE based challenges.

e.g. “Get x offensive/defensive kills on an objective” for like total control or strongholds"; this still follows the line of “get x kills”, but it adds the additional level of making it objective based. Now its actually encouraging the player to take and defend the objectives rather than sitting on the sidelines shooting putty at the moon.

“Get x assists while driving/riding in a warthog” (the intention would be to entice players to drive the warthogs with the intention of helping their teammates) in which “warthog” could be substituted for different multi-rider vehicles, or just left as “get x assists while driving a vehicle”; these would be great, as they encourage players to just play the game.

^^^ - The above suggestions wouldn’t even be hard to implement either, as this information is already tracked by the game.

I actually despise the whole “complete x challenge” system; I want to play the game how I WANT to play the game.

It’s not just you it changes for me as well. “Objective based kills” I would have to disagree with as in something like oddball, this discourages actually holding the ball and instead just killing the enemy team while avoiding the ball being pick up by either team for as long as possible. Going off of the medals in objective based games encourages objective based thinking, something I don’t see a lot of in random games. And as I stated earlier specific challenges should reward the player for completing them with a big boost, either a little bit of credits or a huge xp boost, not the nickel and dime xp we’ve been seeing. I still like some of the frame work we’re seeing in the challenge system, but something needs to change if we’re going to have less job and more fun

Also give us a choice on what game types we play, I have two gametype specific challenges that and one game completed between them, NOT FUN

Right, but that would go without saying that Oddball wouldn’t necessarily be a good match type for that. I was thinking more of the “zone control” match types for that challenge anyway. Besides, in Oddball it doesn’t already have a score tracker for specific kills whereas the zone-control type matches do!

This should happen before/at launch. There’s already basic UI options for what looks like a gametype selection, so I’m assuming the capability will be there soon™

I agree oddball does not have enough medals to support this
