343, y u remove marathon references?

Is it because Bungie will sue?

Because, the guys working on the computers and etc in POA (Shown in this video.) are no longer blue, red, or yellow. (reference to marathon’s BOBs)

And is Keye’s pipe removed because it has the Marathon symbol on it?

I fear there will be more changes…

Keyes’ pipe is still there. They wouldn’t remove the whole object based upon the marathon symbol. They would just remove the symbol. That’s like them removing the entire Pillar of Autumn because it has the marathon symbol on the side.

Edit: 500th post FTW!!!

Does 343’s eye still look like the marathon symbol? I thought it did. Also I’d think all the references would still be there in classic mode.

Keyes’ pipe hasn’t been removed, you can see it in a screenshot of Anniversary…

They had to remove every Marathon reference due Bungie was the one with the copyright of it.

Did they remove them from classic mode too?

No, they changed it to a similar looking design.

Also, the Marathon symbol was removed from the Halo logo :frowning:

They most likely removed it because 343 isnt affiliated with the work on Marathon, that was Bungie. Even Frank O’Connor had nothing to do with Marathon.

It’s likely they arent fearing a sue by bungie, but they took it all out to start from scratch. They dont want any references from any series outside of halo.

Mainly because 343 did no work on Marathon and they cannot ethically put those in the remastered version (dunno about classic mode though). It’s mainly about getting credit where credit is due (or in this case not due).

No textures have been changed in classic so I believe we will still see all references in classic.

Copyright issues.

I better see a Bungie logo somewhere in the game or packaging, though. They may not own it, but it is still there work. Acknowledgement shouldn’t be so strict.

Dude, if you don’t see a Bungie Logo some where in the game or packing, what are you going to do? Send them a very long complaint and demand they recall every last game to fix the issue?

Now, I do have a feeling that they will give acknowledge Bungie for their work, cause the Halo CE engine was made by Bungie, but I wouldn’t hold my breath, or get offended if they didn’t.

Bungie willingly gave 343 the rights to halo. They dont need to have their name on the package because they didn’t produce Anniversary. 343 will likely give them credit in some way, like thanking them in the credits.

It is actually really clever how subtly they’ve done this.
In all places where it is a necessary design element, they have simply remove the little line underneath the “o” and put one on either side instead.
If you want an example, just check Sparky’s eye.

In spartan ops there are those forerunner panels that you have to activate to unlock stuff or progress through the level. If you look at ones later on in spartan ops (I think episode 8-10) They are quite blatantly marathon symbols. Not all of them are but next time you have to activate one take a look at it. Like I just said though most of them aren’t the marathon symbol and are just a jumble of icons.
