-Yoink!- gaming is only:
Whoever can play the default gametypes the most.
MLG brings:
Live tournaments
Unique and frequently updated maps and gametypes
ACTUAL tournaments
And you cant boost like you can in -Yoink!- gaming
My only guess is because -Yoink!- gaming has more funds, and MS is a greedy company.
They get more money from -Yoink!- gaming and its more casual. You can actually win by boosting 24/7.
Now that Bungie is free from Microsoft I expect them to make an awesome game, which im waiting for.
I agree with you, but good luck getting a reply from any staff member. 343 has shown interest in working with MLG, MSFT has not.
Never in the history of gaming has there ever been a more apropo title given to a professional gamer league.
> Never in the history of gaming has there ever been a more apropo title given to a professional gamer league.
Except its not professional at all.
> Never in the history of gaming has there ever been a more apropo title given to a professional gamer league.
very true

Haha great. Here take a cookie
I assume that the only reason they chose -Yoink!- gaming is that microsoft can make more money out of them, also -Yoink!- gaming is more casual. The sad thing about this deal is that now we can officially say good bye to competitive halo forever as mlg was one of the few major voices for the whole no bloom or sprint thing aswell as them rallying for 1-50 and a more skilled base halo 4. All in all I don’t blame 343 as I think this is entirely microsoft’s fault
-Yoink!- gamings first tournament is stupid. They are rewarding the person who has the most time to waste playing a game instead of the most skilled. Woever wins that Halo truck better get a paint job real quick unless they want to be known as the biggest nerd in the world. You’re not gonna get any chcks in that car
343 is an idiotic gaming developer. They’ve ruined Halo now they continue to flaunt their idiocy.
Soon, all will come to this realization.
343 is terrible.

Some are coming to the realization sooner than others. Just give the others some time.
While not a employee of MS or 343 I think the answer to the question of why -Yoink!- instead of MLG is apparent.
MLG has become an exclusive club for people who want to play their own special version of Halo and not the current incarnation. Effectively that leaves out roughly 90% of the people that play Halo, maybe more. While that might be working for MLG (as of late it does not seem to be) I have to imagine for a game developer that is a terrible business model for participation.
Im actually happy that this transition is happening and I look forward to participating in a contest playing the current form of Halo.

The first stage is based on how much you play, after that you will be matched up with people in your tier for an elimination based tournament.
I’m torn between the two.
MLG is for the people that are good at Halo, but -Yoink!- Gaming offers participation for all instead of an elitist few.
If I had to choose, I would have to go MLG because people who are in there deserve to be in there unlike in -Yoink!- Gaming tournaments where the person who plays the most gets to the finals.

Because “-Yoink!- Gaming” describes most of the people that play this game.

Anyone can enter…
An MLG event can have around 256 teams. Realistically, only 7/8 have a decent chance of winning.
For the other 249, its about the experience. Playing in a competitive arena, being around 1300 plus Halo fans who have the same interests as you, watching the BEST halo players in a loud/enthuastic atmosphere, chanting/cheering etc. Meeting pros, making new friends, scrimming other teams, travelling to different cities.
Its more than just a tournament. -Yoink!- Gaming is just a website with the slogan “MAKE MONEY PLAYING VIDEO GAMES”. Theres no interest in that model. They are new to this field, and think computer gaming is still just kids in a basement.

That pic there? The world League of Legends championships. This is the model of competitive gaming MS should be aiming for. They had a solid foundation with MLG in 2006, but chose not to support it, and from 2009 onwards, the support for Halo has dropped along with the standard of the games.
MLG literally cant create competitive gametypes with the custom game options being bugged/glitched/literally not being there.

Instead run 100 1000$ Live based tourneys with an entire population of Halo players. Much more exposure, more opportunity to advertise. Setting dont make a difference.

Actually with -Yoink!- as a sponsor, does it matter what settings you choose? -Yoink!- isn’t looking to make money off of the tourney, they’re looking for publicity and colletaral earnings.
MLG can attempt to run a tourney for $100k using MLG rules, but if that money is coming mostly from the viewers and only about 10-20K players are supporting that tourney, well then you’re not having many of them, if any.
