Fix the input lag that plagues Reach’s Co-Op Campaign and Firefight modes.
Spartan Ops could have all the bells and whistles in the world, but I will not play it if it takes a full two seconds for my shot to leave the barrel of my gun and miss the target I aimed at perfectly.
could be your connection, just saying.
You are either playing on a really -Yoink- connection, playing with people on a -Yoink- connection or are greatly exaggerating because it has never taken me 2 seconds for a shot to leave the gun.
> You are either playing on a really Yoink! connection, playing with people on a Yoink! connection or are greatly exaggerating because it has never taken me 2 seconds for a shot to leave the gun.
I do exaggerate.
It’s only about a second.
I have to lead my shots. With the Sniper Rifle.
I’m sure that 343 Industries will attempt to improve the netcode for Halo 4, but I’m afraid the problem may be on your end for this one since many of us don’t have issues with Firefight or Campaign too often.
Could you perform a speed test and show us your results? That could help us find out of your internet connection is the issue here.
Sure, they will have better netcode but as long as it’s p2p and not dedicated servers, you could always get a bad host and massive lag in any game mode. Campaign/firefight/ uses the same servers with very limited netcode (to save money) and hence a foreign or distant host mean massive, massive lag.
We can always hope that Spartan Ops gets “real” multiplayer servers and good netcode, but to be sure I suggest you find friends in your country to play with. That’s true for Spartan Ops as well as campaign, when it’s comes to p2p, it’s the only way to make sure you won’t have lag. I’ve got a dedicated 100/100 Mbit, perfect connection in Reach network test, and still most games lag due to me living in EU but having an AU/US host.

It’s not me, I’m moderate NAT but the vast majority of my MP games are virtually lag free. It’s only in Co-Op Campaign and Firefight when I’m not host.
I’m not the only one and Bungie has explained to several others that have complained that the input lag is specific to Co-Op Campaign and Firefight because the game has to sync the enemy data as well as the players.

Done.
Sometimes firefighter is pretty bad but I’ve had way more good games than bad. Never played campaign like that though.

Hmm, the problem seems to be your connection. Like you just said, it will work perfectly fine for multiplayer matchmaking, but since Firefight and Campaign transfer a lot more data, you’ll tend to lag more often while playing those online.
Now that I think about it, I have the exact same issues as you when I’m playing at my parents’ house, since their connection is nearly identical to yours. Multiplayer matchmaking works fine, but Firefight and Campaign are near impossible to play due to the extremely long delay between pressing the buttons on my controller and the action on-screen.
Like I said before, 343 Industries will most likely improve the netcode for both matchmaking and co-op online, which will probably help a bit, but unfortunately I don’t think there’s any other permanent solution other than getting a better connection, which I know may not be possible for various reasons.
