343- What Happened? Please Explain.

343, I still love you guys for the support and passion you guys have shown for Halo. You guys went above and beyond with the content for MCC, and despite what everyone says about how it turned out with the network issues, I still applaud you guys for doing something ambitious and for the fans. I’m so happy to have the collection in one unified UI. However, I just really feel like the fans need an explanation. I know you guys are ambitious with Halo 5, and have big plans for the series, and have great ideas, but a lot of us fans and the public just feel like we’re left in the dark. I don’t understand why features have been getting removed in every subsequent Halo. With the Halo’s from Bungie, every next game had more features plus a grander story and better gameplay. From Halo 1 to 2, we had dual wielding, playable elites, online multiplayer. To Halo 3 we had all those features plus Firefight and a grander game, nothing was removed. Halo Reach had everything the original games had. However, when Halo 4 came, you guys did add new features, but took out some. Took out playable Elites, dual wielding, but added in a lot of new things. I still didn’t care that much b/c it was a great game and I understood it was your first entry into the series. However, you guys said you’ve learned from your mistakes and listened to the fans. Frank said this last year at E3, Dan Ayoub was excited to reveal that in Halo 2 Anniversary Dual Wielding and Playable Elites was back, which followed a big cheer from the crowd during E3 when MCC was revealed. I just really don’t understand what is going on in 343 to make the decisions to remove Elites, dual wielding, SPLITSCREEN, Firefight, BTB. I mean do you guys not know these were big features of Halo 2/3? How can you guys take these things away from us? Is it time and resources? Are you guys including something revolutionary the gaming world has never seen before as an excuse to remove these features? Warzone is great, but is still no excuse to remove these features. And the excuse of 1080p/60 fps doesn’t cut it for many people either. Why not have that as the full screen experience and cut it down to 30 fps during splitscreen? Halo’s don’t release every year like call of duty, so Halo fans expect the biggest, most blockbuster, feature rich, best gameplay fps game to come out when it releases. Just like it did with all the other Halos. I just really don’t understand and am depressed by all of these things being removed. How can you guys not know fans of Halo want these features? Who are you guys catering to? Can you guys just please explain to us what is happening and why?

I understand what you’re asking for.
i just want to clarify a few things.
Dual Wielding was gone after Halo 3. Halo Reach did not have ALL the previous features of the older games.
Elites were gone in Halo 4, and I have no clue why anyone would expect them to come back or wants them for that matter.
BTB is not “gone”, it will be added post launch. My guess is that since Warzone is a thing a good chunk of the player base will be consumed with that seeing as it’s the main attraction of this new game, but once the dust settles and the player base spreads out a bit more, a full arsenal of playlists should be available.
Firefight is “gone”, but may come back “if the fans want it bad enough”. I’m with you though. I don’t get why it isn’t already there. The fans CLEARLY want it more than bad enough.

And yeah, I don’t know what’s the deal with split screen. It doesn’t make sense to me that I don’t have the option to turn the graphics down for some actual fun with tangible people.

God, a text wall. I read up until you started to talk on behalf of the community (please stop doing this) ― all I can say is keep in touch with WP if you feel in the dark. Josh Holmes and Bravo just did a Q&A and the canon fodder guys always update their page. Lastly, the bulletin is here, in video, every week should you want more info. I suggest that you become more active in the community (not just on WP) if you feel out of the loop.
Be the change that you want to see.

H3 also added forge

Elites - I’m upset about
Dual-wielding - I’m glad is not in because it ruined the sand box in halo 2, the dual weildable weapons were absolute -Yoink-
BTB - I don’t understand why this is not in at launch, seems redundant not to have it. But if it really is coming in a few weeks than whatever.
Firefight - I’m not too upset, but I don’t understand why they don’t just put it in based on demand alone.
Splitscreen - Now this is a big one, on one hand I see why they removed it and I’m also glad I won’t have Xx_Snipezzz_xX (1) (2) and (3) in my game. But the out lash is large enough that I could see them putting it in.

Umm have you forgotten the entire trilogy
Halo CE didn’t have online multiplayer it was only on PC
there was no duel wielding
and no playable elites you got CE confused cause all that stuff was introduced in halo 2-3 and reach didn’t have duel wielding but some elites did it campaign whitch was weird but you got your halo games confused from CE to now

Does anyone know how long a 2nd communications ban from Xbox live is I was banned last Monday and since the 10 days are up do I have to wait for it to end to where the ban was issued or is it a random time during the day the ban ends

Yeah, well,

I don’t really care for Splitscreen, but I would be glad if they add it running on 30 fps for people who want it! (prefearable after launch so that they can finish what they started at the moment!)

Dual Wielding was awesome, I really miss it dude, but it would add lots of weapons balancing issues, so I prefer it to not be there (and I think I’m not the only one on this boat)

Elites… I like to shoot at them in multiplayer, I never play as them, and I’ ll miss them a bit, but they just don’t fit Spartan Abilities, and it would be very weird giving them similar abilities balanced with Spartan Abilities for two reasons: First, Campaign would only feature Spartan Abilities (i’m pretty sure we won’t play anymore as the Aribter…) so, after you played Campaign it would be very weird having different abilities with your Sangheili character, it would be some sort of “a different game” from Halo 5 and it would destroy equal starts (every player must behave on the battlefield in the same way). Second, in past Halo games Elites almost behaved in the same way in both Campaign and MP, so it means that if they would add Elites in MP they should have Spartan Abilities (or similar) also in Campaign, and it would be VERY weird since Elites does fight differently from Spartans (lore speaking), in fact I think past games are a little wrong on that side.

BTB will be added a few weeks after launch

And the most important missing feature: FIREFIGHT: they said if we REALLY want it they’ll add it (JUST KEEP TELLING THEM WE NEED IT: 343 -> ADD FIREFIGHT AFTER LAUNCH!!!)

Just point out he said from 1 - 2. In other words they were the additions from Halo 1 to Halo 2… Like online, playable elite and dual wielding wasn’t in Halo 1 but came into Halo 2 as additions. Unless you’re referring to something else he said and I can’t find it. Too much text to search haha.

Broken reply.

What I was trying to say.

This is not the correct place to ask that. You need to contact MIcrosoft about your issues,

Omg its like no one reads the website. They just see a headline of an article or a thread and flock to the forums to complain.

343i has explained, several times, why split screen isn’t it the game. 343i has explained several times that BTB will come after launch.

As for dual weilding, its obviously not in the game because its unbalanced and they’re trying to make the game as balanced as possible in Arena because everyone complained that Halo 4 was not balanced with its weapons (boltshot) and it didn’t even have dual weilding.

They’re not going to add it to Halo 5 when they’re trying to make a balanced competitive Arena multiplayer.

As for Elites, its either because they aren’t balanced or maybe they didn’t have enough time or maybe they just didn’t want to do it because it’s their game and their vision and their creative direction.

Please read the Halo Waypoint website front page.

Why do people insist on claiming what they want is what Halo fans want?

I don’t want dual wielding. I don’t want split-screen. I would much rather have Warzone over a rehashed wave defense mode like Firefight. Elites in matchmaking would be nice but I don’t play Halo multiplayer to dress up as a Dinosaur and get pissed when I can’t. And Big Team Battle is in the game, FFS.

You can’t just pile on feature after feature ad infinitum. 343i can’t support 600 different game modes in Halo 5, so to add something huge and new like Warzone, they can’t simultaneously bring back and support Firefight. I mean, maybe they could, but then we’d have less features in Warzone, less features in Arena, and less features in Firefight. They can’t make a 60 FPS Halo game then cut the framerate in half for four people playing on one Bone. Again, maybe they could, but the full-screen experience for the majority of players would suffer.

It seems that people think that just because this is Halo, “anything is possible.” That they can release a 1000 GB 1080p/60 FPS game and support it properly forever with no major bugs or problems. That just isn’t the case and if you think that, you need a dose of reality. We are getting a huge new mode in Warzone. We are getting some awesome new features in campaign & a great story. We are getting 60 FPS. To do these things, concessions had to be made elsewhere… somewhere a line has to be drawn and other features won’t make it into the game. As soon as you accept this reality of all software development, you’ll probably be a lot more excited about Halo 5.

Thanks everyone for the responses, I appreciate. My mistake for speaking on behalf of the community. I don’t know if I’m speaking for the minority or majority of Halo fans, but I know a lot of Halo fans miss these features. Obviously of course I know not all these features can make it in the game. Also, I actually do expect a lot of things to be possible with Halo games, not saying “anything should be possible”. Reason being is Halo games don’t come out every year like call of duty does, and when that game comes out with more features than Halo does, it just bothers me a lot and brings up questions. Halo is a big deal, and yeah I know things change for the series, but 343 shouldn’t forget where the roots of the series is. Halo is about the story, local multiplayer, and most of all just FUN to play. With this whole esports thing taking over, it just makes me feel like it’s overshadowing everything else. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about esports. I watch and play League, SF, Counter-Strike, etc, and I know esports is good for the longevity of the game. However, you can still have an esports game with all those other features. It’s not like you have to eliminate features like dual-wielding, elites, etc b/c it’ll ruin the “balance” and esports game. Just don’t use those features in the professional championships. Elites and dual wielding weren’t balanced, yeah, but they were so much fun to play as. Just seeing different characters instead of just red and blue spartans, having the ability to shoot two weapons. I know BTB will come after the launch, but I’m wondering why the hell we have to wait for it. It’s one of Halo’s biggest online multiplayer playlists. It just seems to me they are rushing to finish the product, which scares me. Also, I don’t believe that -Yoink- that splitscreen isn’t “possible”. Really? Get your head out of your -Yoink-. I’m just questioning why it was not a main factor when the game started development from the beginning. Why the hell would they build a game with splitscreen not being a key feature from the beginning? That’s my question.

Because 60fps is a community and industry standard right now.
The MCC was built on 60fps, Halo 5 was promised to have 60fps (and with 343i’s recent reputation, they want to make sure they hit home with these promises), and the entire underlying simulation (how the game works) is built on 60fps.

It’s actually not just about the graphics. Splitscreen compromised the gameplay too. There is a problem if the game is reacting faster for one player over another. the game is built on 60fps, so taking a huge hit messes up some fundamental things.

Ummmmmm…they aren’t adding BTB because they are working on Warzone and don’t want to work on two different gamemodes that are basically the same at the same time. It would be rushing if they tried to do that.

On the BTB point, to be fair, we have Warzone as our temporary solution.
