343, way to be a Buzz Killington

My face when I found out that Infection was in a nutshell going to be the Infection we’ve played in H3 and Reach: :frowning:

My face when you did a Bulletin on it: :((((((((

Actually I think I need a few more frowns on that: :(((((((((((((((((((((((

There we go.

Why am I so unhappy? Because H3’s and Reach’s Infection was incredibly flawed, incredibly unbalanced and incredibly unfun to play. Overall the gameplay can be described as playing Duck Hunt and/or shooting fish in a barrel.

Being a Zombie in Reach, and certain Gametypes in H3, was a slow deathmarch of a slog towards game completion. More likely than not, Zombie would “win” the round by killing all the Humans. But that “win” is basically dropped into the one Porta-Potty at an all you can eat chili cookoff because of how many times you’ve had to die to achieve it. Coupled with the fact that the Humans still win because everyone is ranked by their individual kill count anyways.

So what if Zombies killed the last Human and won the round? He was only killable because he finally ran out of ammo and came out of his camping spot. And he still went 34-1 to win the game. I’m willing to bet that the only reason why Infection is popular is because of that 34-1 streak. Players are amused by the jangling of car keys, the easy, cheap and nearly free kills that they get because they’ve holed up in an overpowered position with overpowered weapons.

“But!” I already hear someone saying “Flood isn’t like Infection in Reach or H3! It’s different! It’s better!” The visual and sound additions are cool, that’s better. The gameplay manages to try and fix some problems, yet somehow make it worse.

Flood have shields. That’s cool. Stop players from getting cross mapped with the Magnum. Flood can still die midlunge because players spawn with a Shotgun. The Flood have super powers greatly extending their range in addition to the long lunge range already on the Crab Claw. Culminating in seemingly random chance outcomes of who killed who.

All in all I see the experience being nearly identical to past iterations. Past iterations that sucked so much they could lift a bowling ball with a straw. I was hoping, hoping so much that you would take inspiration from other Zombie games like Left 4 Dead or Dead Space 2 (yes, EA’s forced and tacked on MP is better than Infection.)

At least do me a favor and allow for community created Flood/Infection gametypes seperate from the default variant. In their own playlist so that people can make balanced variants or variants utilizing the Infection team changing upon death parameters to make Custom Games like Cops and Robbers.

-_- you’re the one being the buzz killington. They could have just left it the way it was in Reach.

They at least added some unique features like flood gargles and ambiance, and the game has been tuned for both sides. It’ll inevitably need tweaks, but myself and any others who were put off by Reach’s infection are looking forward to this one.

Halo’s infection is its own thing so you shouldn’t compare it to other games.

> It’ll inevitably need tweaks

Understatement.

And I was put off by Reach’s Infection. And H3’s Infection. But this just looks like more of the same. Specifically: SoB with super powers. SoB wasn’t all that fun to play either.

And while a direct comparison is out of the question: Other games like L4D and DS2 have done the zombie/survival theme better than Halo has.

> Past iterations that sucked so much they could lift a bowling ball with a straw

I lol’d so hard at this.

OT: I’ll wait and see before deciding

Erickyboo is worried about the lack of information regarding normal zombies and all that.

I really hope we’ll be able to, if not then we’ll have to do something to get 343i to give us the gametypes post launch.

Assuming Flood is customizable at all, I can assure you that if you don’t enjoy the Matchmaking version, the community will produce a balanced and fair gametype shortly after release.

Here’s an idea…why don’t you actually…I dunno, TRY the game first?

I actually counted to see if there were 32 there. There aren’t. Why would you lie to me?

Ah, but there are 32 in that quote.

So, basically you’re complaining that “zombies” is like it has ALWAYS been in Halo, since H2.

Basically you don’t like Halo’s version of zombies, never have and are upset that they didn’t change it to suit your desires, desires that conflict with a gametype that was established in Halo 2, and hasn’t changed much since then. How about, go play L4D if that is the zombie experience you enjoy.

The only point in your OP that has any merit is how the game is scored in match making, because it is totally unbalanced.

I honestly felt like we didn’t need a bulletin on infection. Seeing how it was late and all, also had no clue on what it would be about. I figured it was going to be one of those boring bulletin.

Why does this absolutely pathetic argument have to exist. It is worse than “adapt.”

Its called deduction. Learn it.

It’s not a pathetic argument, it’s stating the truth. A truth that you just don’t happen to like because there isn’t really much of an answer to it.

I’ll elaborate on my true meaning of my previous post since it was too difficult for you to understand.

Another thread talking about this topic that has been discussed and dissected time and time again? Wait for the game.

Why wait for the game?
Because then you’ll know 100% if you like or dislike the discussed features and then you can come back to the forums and discuss what you like and dislike about it in a better way instead of cluttering up a forum with more junk than a scrapyard.

So please don’t tell me to “learn it” because I know exactly what I meant. Don’t like the argument? Then come up with a rebuttal other than questioning my intelligence.

Then I’ll make sure to bump this thread so hard come November.

Just because something has always been a certain way isn’t justification for why it should continue.

And my desire is to create an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Not just whoever spawned as a Human.

Well if we are able to tweak the armor abilities for each gametype to meet a specific need, then Im pretty sure we might be able to change the skins on the zombies aswell.

Just some food for thought :\
