343. Time traveling, wish granting genies? Maybe.

As I sit atop a mound of screaming -Yoink!- souls, insanity slowly clawing away all cognitive abilities, I find my thoughts turn toward a time shrouded by the mist of eons. A time few living remember, I am of course referring to the pre Halo 3 beta era. Join me as we search our hive consciousness for memories of this strange time before we new anything about the game that was to be Halo 3. During this time I was but a wee pustule of a human being oblivious to the inner machinations of game development, but I thought myself enlightened enough to send the great Bungie a letter containing what I thought would make the Halo formula even better. This letter contained such things as adding a flyable pelican, making the warthog engine sound deeper, adding back the single shot rifle from the Halo 2 E3 demo, more weapons in each role, and adding customizable armor patterns and weapon skins. Now look forward in time to the dawn of a new era of Halo. Halo 4, a game that featured a flyable pelican level, a deeper warthog engine, the dmr and br and light rifle and carbine, and armor/weapon skins. I have pondered these similarities and come to a completely sane and rational conclusion.

343 industries found the letter I wrote to Bungie when I was in middle school, with all of my ideas for improvements for the Halo franchise, and have begun to worship its script as holy writings and used the ideas present in the letter to make Halo 4.

Oh God, what did I do? It was me, I made Halo 4. OH NO! I ruined Halo multiplayer! I must atone for my sins against the Halo community by committing sudoku.

If it wasn’t painfully obvious I don’t really believe that 343 used my stupid letter I wrote as a kid for the frame work of Halo 4, but I have found it odd that some of the things I wrote in that letter have direct comparisons to things in Halo 4. The warthog is the strangest one, because when I first heard the Halo 4 hog I remembered thinking that that was what I wanted the warthog to sound like when I was young. (before I knew that the hog ran on a hydrogen fueled engine)

In case anyone cares these are the things I remember writing about in that letter so long ago.

  • deeper sounding warthog ( I did it!)- More weapons in each role. short, medium, long range etc. (so many choices, so much redundancy)- flyable pelican (Shutdown anyone?)- customizable armor and weapon skins (At the time I didn’t even consider customizing armor pieces)- command marines similar to Republic Commando (God, Republic Commando was so cool. I hope they make a sequel. Battlefront is getting one so there is still hope)- weapon mods such as grenade launchers under assault rifles, silencers, other stuff I cant remember. ( sort of achieved. ODST had silencers. 4 had grenade pistol)
I still thing marines need to listen to what chief says, their brains are as big as a chihuahua’s. I disagree with the weapon mod, multiple weapons, and warthog sound now, but keep in mind these were the fevered dreams of a dumb kid. Man I was a dumb kid. I sucked a Halo too. Could not even beat legendary. Filthy casual. I also refused to watch Firefly. What was wrong with me? Firefly is amazing and I refused to acknowledge it, what a horrible person I was.

I wish I had made a copy but sadly the letter was probably thrown into a shredder before anyone read it. All I got back from Bungie was a greeting card with the Chief and Arbiter saying " Thanks for your support" It would have been interesting to read my exact thoughts and compare them to what I believe now. Anyway, I can hear Plague summoning me to have creepy relations with clown mermaids and Japanese hornets on his farm. Bye now.

Japanese hornets are monsters.

Oh my dear lord.

Ok
