Good day, friends.
I felt like it was a necessity to make this post today. I want to spread this amazing feeling I have about 343, and bring something positive to these parts, rather than the constant negativism.
So it’s simple. Knowing that, the next important thing to do is try to keep it as short as possible.
Well 343 has announced a lot of new features in Game Informer this month. Some just caused collective questioning, perhaps even worries. For me as well. I love Halo at core, what makes it different from all these mainstream shooters and so competitive. But I believe that 343 does as well. People seem to have been doubting that since the addition of new features that may or may not change Halo for the best.
But need I remind you that 343 are game developers, and strive to create the ultimate game? It must appeal to all audiences, esp. the CoD players since CoD more or less controls the FPS, if not the online console gaming market as a whole.
Not don’t get me wrong here! Halo 4 looks in NO WAY like CoD. But CoD appeals to a more casual market due to how simple the game is. Halo appeals to the top competitive players on console gaming. It will remain the case, regardless of the damage Reach may have caused. The thing is, new Halo players don’t start off as dominant at the game. They need some of the new features to help themselves get the hang of the game; a CoD / BF player will not expect Halo to revolves around controlling power weapons for example. These power weapon indicators come in handy for that reason, in playlists where casual / newer players can go to get the hang of it. It will still be normal in other playlists, where most of the Halo population will end up at. If that doesn’t happen, well it will just prove that the feature is popular even amongst Halo players, which could be considered a good thing, to a certain extent.
Now, I sure don’t want casuals players to be able to compete with my understanding of the game and be put on a similar level because of crutches. So if it allows that, I will just boycott the playlist and be sure to share my feelings with 343 when I get the chance. And so on with all the new features that 343 intends on implementing. If is not an insolated case, 343 will listen, and act taking all of it in consideration. This one factor was just give you a general idea.
Like I’ve explained in another thread of mine, there’s a message I want to get across with this post. It is:
JUST BE PATIENT.
Wait before you complain. 343 loves Halo as much as us do. I am sure they understand to perfection what causes Halo to stand out from other FPSes, and also what could make or break the next game. 343 has something to prove right now. This is their first game. Their ideas will not be implemented across the board in a drastic manner. Not without our feedback. Don’t panic. Inform yourself. Understand the features. Understand what 343 had in mind upon designing it and how they expect another good player to counter them. Because they did. 343 also has expecations from players. They won’t rehash the game every year or so, . Implementing new features is of utmost importance. That’s what makes CoD an “OK” series, and the developers, average.
343 is not average. Neither is Halo. At all. And don’t forget, 343 saved Reach no matter how you look at it, adding features that increased the skill gap, and got rid of crutches. That, on top of their limited time to develop Halo 4, and release of a remake.
Do you think they would change overnight to a developer that care just about a quick buck? I don’t.
Believe.
