Pretty good stuff for being fan made, check it out and support!
It’s decent for being fan made, nothing exceptional… but I wouldn’t say it’s something 343 needs to “take notes” from.
343 just needs to better acknowledge and design to meet player expectations and understand what makes Halo, “Halo.” In terms of gameplay, they’re getting there (H5 is a good “new generation” Halo game in this regard), but in terms of content development, and world design and making the game FEEL like it’s set in the Halo universe, while giving players all the content and features that they expect to see out of a Halo title, that’s where they’re still struggling.
And in some ways, it’s like Halo has “sold out” and it tries to appeal to everyone, younger players included… the T rating this time? It’s starting to become more and more like a kid’s cartoon show in Saturday mornings. It’s losing its edge and grit…
Meanwhile its longstanding fans are getting older and instead of the game “growing” with them and appealing to the people that loved it’s early, successfully established universe, its like it’s dumbing itself down for children and the brand-identity and aesthetic has shifted.
They need to make a mature, sci-fi military FPS, that stays true to Halo’s initial self, in its execution, in its features, maps, modes, and especially in its campaign, story and tone, world and encounter design… they need to drop the whole “Halo is our game now” mindset, because that clearly hasn’t worked. It’s not even a matter of gameplay at this point, whether you like Spartan Abilities or not, it’s a matter of the game not living up to players’ expectations and giving them the kind of experiences they want.
I got pretty long-winded with this but people want Halo… not “343’s Halo” with giant squid mechs, cartoony graphics and robots everywhere and hyper linear gameplay. These new HW2 images coming out with those green mechanized human vehicle/suits or whatever? Nonsense… Just look at how CE and H2 built the universe, and go from there… there are too many things that aren’t “Halo” creeping their way into Halo!

Agreed. I miss the M rated skull throwing blood splatter duel wielding elite screaming classic vibe.
Gotta agree with most of b4c0n’s points here. Installation 01 is a great independent project but isn’t really something that 343 should take notes from. Especially (moving into my own opinion now) since it seems very much to be Halo 3 multiplayer on PC.
Here I disagree with b4c0n, 343 are a different company and should make Halo their own. It’s impossible to recreate something that isn’t yours. But 343 should remember that they do have an audience who has stuck with them for 16 years and more than half of the audience are not adolescent; 343 have got to be making interesting mature space operas for adults and not a video game substitute for the new Star Wars movies.

Don’t you think they’ve done enough of that though in simply updating the gameplay? Despite the game not being “classic Halo,” I can get on-board with their 1:1 starts w/ Spartan Abilities and the added movement options and elements within the map design… the sneaky jumps on Fathom and Plaza, for example… very cool.
That’s putting their spin PLENTY on the game IMO, and they finally did it right relative to H4 Armor Abilities and loadouts. But they really need to at least offer the same kind of experiences that people expect out of a Halo game. Halo has always been RICH with tons of game modes w/ countless custom options to literally morph the game into whatever the player wanted.
Now H5 is so limited in variety and game modes… people don’t like the story… they changed the very structure in which MP is constructed on, the UI, and the management of playlists, but that’s acceptable just because it’s 343’s take on the game/universe? I disagree with that premise…
They’ve found THEIR core-gameplay, now moving forward, make the player-base feel at home…
