This is a link to a video that showcases the movement mechanics of the new Doom game. This is how I view a good system that promotes fast and creative gameplay. Not that I think the next Halo should be a complete ripoff of this game, but I think there are a few things that could be implemented or revise current mechanics and game philosophy. Enjoy http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2016/01/18/see-how-id-39-s-new-doom-breaks-the-modern-shooter-mold.aspx
The problem is though, I don’t see Doom being all that huge. They’ve hugely stuck to the original Doom formula for the most part (much like Wolfenstein: the New Order did), but that formula is incredibly dated. I’m not sure if I’ll buy it, purely because I own Doom 1 & 2, and this new Doom doesn’t seem to have progressed in terms of gameplay as much as I’d like it to have.
I forgot to mention that I especially like the movement mechanics in this game. No sprinting and good strafing mechanics is what gets me most excited about this game. The base player movement speed looks fast and not clumsy at all.
I’ll say it again, the gameplay mechanics are not the problem with this game

That’s a matter of opinion. The movement mechanics are exactly why I won’t play Halo 5.

Of course but I don’t see the stuggules to maintain their population steming from the mechanics… Think it goes in to more lack of playlists and the overreliance on esports, the story leaving many disappointed I believe also hurt it as well.
I applaud them. Hopefully it is a quality game because the mechanics look unique and fresh.
I think everybody knows the current problems with Halo including lack of gametypes and original maps. There is always room for improvement for many other things in this game despite being good from the get go.

Eh, idk. H5 is very generic from a gameplay standpoint.

The gameplay movements are not the reason why it suffers to maintain a population it just isn’t…the game suffers from lack of playlists and a progression system which hasn’t set in well with the community…the absense of splitscreen is also HUGE

Perhaps, to a point. I would go so far as to blame the movement mechanics for a good chunk of the people that chose not to buy Halo 5 initially at launch(alongside the lack of splitscreen). Movement mechanics and split screen were known in advance and turned many players away. We didn’t know about the lack of gametypes until the game was already out.

This is just your opinion dude. COD AW struggled population wise(for a COD game) and it wasn’t due to a lack of gametypes. Gameplay is obviously the most important thing for a game.

I just think the initial small numbers in terms of preorders arnt a result of gameplay mechanics…I think in addition to the points you’ve made I just think it’s a lack of interest in Halo in general…MCC also didn’t help. I’m sure there are those who are turned off by gameplay mechanics and didn’t or won’t play the game as a result…but its not the main reason and not a big enough reason to point to for its struggles
The point of this thread was to spark conversation on where Halo COULD go from here. I think 343 analyse their mistakes more than people think.
For the Halo 6 I don’t need ANYTHING else than just DAMN WORKING EU SERVERS!!!

Except in this case it literally is NOT about the mechanics…343 even did a poll on this a while back, yes I acknowledge those who do not like them and are turned off but by no means is the movement abilities in the top reasons why it suffers
Doom will not be a big game. This video has been out for a bit and I’d like to see an update or more recent video of the additions they made. Wanting halo to follow this game wouldn’t be a good idea. Halo is halo for certain reasons. Changing that would make it not feel the same and change the whole framework of halo.

Do you not know what an opinion is lol? 343 polled the people here who still play. Thier opinion is nice but essentially irrelevent as it does not speak to why others are gone. NOBODY knows why those people are not playing.
The new Doom has Assassinations, Clamber, Thruster and a low single Jump but slightly higher Double Jump.
Their “sprintless” movement doesn’t invoke a feeling of always sprinting.
Strafe all you want against a Rocket launcher that doesn’t reload at range or Super Shotgun up close… It won’t be as effective as you imagine.

No sir I do not please link me the definition…fine just for you…it is MY OPINION is that the core gameplay mechanics of Halo 5 are not one of the main reasons as to why it fails to maintian a healthy population…it is due to the fact that there are not enough playlists thus making the experience bland…the monthly updates of implementing playlists that should be in the rotation from the start and adding remixes of existing maps is adding insult to Injury…I’ll also irriterate…Halo just isn’t as popular anymore whether you have the old mechanics…or the new
