343 Stop the FOMO

Honestly, I don’t. There are so many issues with Halos matchmaking and not just MCCs but the series as a whole I only ever go there if I need/want to unlock something.

To give an idea as to how flawed the spartan points earn rate might be, let me provide some numbers from my own collection.

Last Week I had 119 Spartan Points. This week, I completed all of the weekly Gold PvE/PvP Challenges that earn Spartan Points, giving me my current net worth of 106 Spartan Points. 119-106 = 13, so even after completing all of the weekly challenges, I lost a net worth of 13 points.

In total, the challenges earned 24 Spartan Points. They temporarily raised each of the gold challenges to earn two points instead of one, so 12 * 2 = 24, thus 24 Spartan Points.

My current net worth is 106 spartan points, so, if you subtract the 24 points I had to earn to get to 106, that leaves me with 82 Spartan Points, which is what I had leftover after buying everything available in the exchange this week.

Meaning that if you subtract my leftover 82 Spartan Points after purchase (but before challenge completion) from the original amount of points I had before purchase (119), you’d get 37. So, all in all, you’d get the total cost of everything in this week’s exchange being 37 Spartan Points.

Admittedly, my math is a bit off, as the actual cost of all the items this week is 35 Spartan Points. I may have had a couple of less Spartan Points than I thought I had at the start of the week.

The point is, however, that in the previous weeks, the total cost of all the exchange items was 10 Spartan Points. And since you could earn 12 Spartan Points per week, then you could gain a net worth of 2 points weekly. Small, but still positive.

I suspect that the 25 points worth are not part of the weekly rotation and will remain a longer term fixture until its replacement arrives (at least that is my hope).

At any rate, any weekly exchange of items that forces a net loss of over 10 items is more than a rip off. Which is why I still stand by my belief that they need to either make everything in the exchange cheaper, or grant an even higher payout for the gold challenges than they have thus far. Perhaps they should have made each gold challenge worth 3 points instead of two this week. And make that a permanent fixture of the challenge system going forward.

I played you in something recently, so I’ll start off by saying GGs.
Im curious your thoughts on the other end of this. I have so many points I’ll never be able to spend them all.

Oh yeah, GG Man.

Okay, that explains a lot. Honestly, I’m pretty sure you’d be fine. Given that we’re at most a month and a half out from the next update with the retroactive points, I’m guessing you’ll have more than enough for what comes in the exchange. I’m only one Tier 8 Level 28 I think, so I still have quite a ways to go as far as leveling is concerned. Do you have any tips or anything regarding that?

Find a gametype you enjoy playing. Dont grind a certain gametype / playlist because it “gives the most experience per hour”. I personally could do the firefight grind before H3 got the next medals / more XP but it will make you burnout so much to play something you dont care about.

Back on topic here, 343 struggles to find a balance to a problem THEY CREATED. I cannot stress that enough - its great there are so many cosmetics to unlock, DONT time gate them for no reason. The slow trickle of skins / cosmetics in the exchange is not the answer.

Yep. 100%. That is pretty much the core problem with the new unlocks. I’m pretty sure that this is a kind of leftover consequence of 343 having actively looked into monetizing Spartan Points. I imagine that if they didn’t do that, they could have designed a new 9th series consistent with the previous ones. Each item costing 1 point, 2 points at the most.

I need to make a correction to some of my math that I posted earlier in the forums. As is turns out, you can earn 22 Spartan Points this week, not 24. Five of the Gold Challenges in PvE/PvP earn 2 points each, but there’s one gold challenge in both that only earn one. So, having had 119 points before buying everything in the exchange, I would be left with 84 points. Add 22 to that and you get my current count of 106 points. Still a net loss of 13 points, but I thought I would just mention that 22, not 24 can be earned this week.

I’m pretty sure the five poses for 25 Spartan points are in the featured section so should stay for a while. Make sure you buy the top row first then buy from the featured row with any leftover points.

The halo 4 keystone helmet, mythic armour bundle and back accessory have finally been replaced in the feature row.

They really should do away with this season/spartan point system entirely.
They added a bunch of exclusive achievements ontop of the base achievements for these games so why not include ways to earn cosmetics/armor through them like in H3?

On the plus side, it seems like the changes made to the amount of spartan points earnable last week still applies this week. And thankfully, the price of the exchange items has not increased, meaning that players can get more points than what they spend in a given week, even if they start with zero points.

343, this is a good thing. Positive. Good Game Design. Happy Emoji! Comprende?!

Actually this weeks rotationary items are 12 points. Double check if you don’t believe me.
