343 Still Missing The Point

“First we need to release Forge then we’ll ship The Pit when it’s ready” Stop trying to make it perfect. You can update the map whenever you want. Just release it and let people play it once forge is out. Use the live service the way its supposed to be used.

Additionally by releasing it day 1 in an “unfinished” state. You give the community a base to work off and they can make their own branches of the map which you can pull from instead of spending development time on.

343 can’t even do drop pods. Drop pods were meant to be to drop what is ready now, even if they are small, which is why there are supposed to be monthly. 343 can’t seem to do that either. They keep trying to overhype every little change. I won’t give praise for the bare minimum.

343: ok guys we have anlther amazing world premiere to announce just stay tune for the next stream

Near the end of the stream

343: we are proud to announce that you can play moon men slayer which is slayer but with low gravity and gravity hammers in a few months

They release it early, then the next thing you’ll see on these forums is people complaining that the map isn’t finished yet… A lot of people…

I agree. They should release it at less than 100% state.
Obviously not at <60% state. It has to be at an “acceptable” state. So let’s say 80% finished is good enough.

Also, sometimes you think you’re at 100% and release it, and then fans bash it anyways, and you realize errors and then release update 1.4 which is the actual 100% finished state.
So early release + user beta test = actual 1.0 release. If you catch my drift…

Iterative Development fits in with Live Service model, and that should be encouraged IMO. (Shipping something out and then being able to fix it on the fly, mid-season, is a major tech company FLEX). 343 not doing this is either due to a decision by the “union” of designers (so-to-speak), or due to lack of automation in DevOps and Release Engineering. I would say it’s the former.

In general, I get the sense that 343 designers are “perfectionists” but not in a good way. They seem to have their way with management somehow regarding stretched out releases, and are stringent to their own timelines. It’s a little selfish for them to maintain such a grand standard, for the lack of a better word, when other parts of the game are clearly not even close to that standard. I’m just left confused both as a fan, and as a tech professional.

cus it’s a freaking forge map that they’ve already recreated once before and have apparently been working on for a month. A forge recreation of a very simplistic halo 3 map. For a month. And it’s STILL not done. Unless they have some poor unskilled intern working on this map creation alone with nothing but an xbox controller, that’s unacceptable for a AAA developer.
