Precision weapons always dominate over automatics because of this, and it makes no sense canonically. Why does a DMR bullet kill in one headshot, but not an assault rifle? Same caliber bullet. Maybe the DMR has more power behind it. However, that means every power weapon should get a “headshot” too becuase they are one hit kill no matter what… energy sword, rockets, etc. Also, a spartan’s helmet should be just as strong as the rest of their armor. Now, I know that people are going to say that the helmet would be too heavy. But think about the fact that we play as SPARTANs who have genetic augmentations and on top of that have MJOLNIR armor. If they can flip tanks, they can sure as hell wear better protection for their heads. Lastly, it would improve gameplay. Automatics would have more of a chance.
Note: I’m not saying that autos should be one hit kill for headshots. I’m saying precision weapons shouldn’t have a headshot bonus.
Canonically a Spartans helmet is just as well armored than the rest of their body (besides the visor). And a 7.62mm from an MA5 hits just as hard as one coming out of a DMR. No one is denying either of those facts.
But you are talking about gameplay, something that should not (in most cases) be affected by canon. Headshot bonuses will not go away.
Yeah I’m all for a multiplier, something like 1.2-1.5 times the damage as opposed to a body shot. Encourage some more careful aim with autos, lower the disadvantage against scoped weapons.
This is not the Posleen war with ACS suits that have no visor. Headshots are going to do damage. Even wearing that helmet it is not nearly as well armored as the chest piece. Plus just getting hit in the head would cause you to feel it. There is still going to be motion transfered to your body.
I understand that people will oppose my opinions. However, 343 is trying to make Halo multiplayer more canon, no? They even canonized Halo 4 multiplayer as a simulation. So why can’t they fix some inconsistency within the Haloverse?

Automatics aren’t skill-less. It takes skill to burst fire, and kill with them against other users of let’s say BR, DMR’s etc. Not everyone sprays.
Again. You have a visor on. That alone means the Helmet is not nearly as well armored as the other parts of the body. That and it has sensors and what not. Unless you just turn it into a hunk of armor like an ACS there will always be headshots.

You don’t need to burst when you can just get up close and spray, there’s no incentive to aim for the head and cause more damage when it’s not needed, which at the moment isn’t.

It’s the 26th Century, you would think that they would have invented transparent aluminum.

If you are usingan automatic, you must burst at farther ranges. You are missing the point. Ofc you don’t aim for the head with autos, you do so with precision weapons. Which gives them a huge advantage over automatics.

Taking out headshots kind of makes that extremely difficult and unnecessary.

How? The DPS is no where near competitive with a tap fired AR.

Which isn’t a bad thing. It does (regardless of what you’d like to think about burst-firing autos) take more skill to use a precision weapon than an automatic. People trying to out-BR somebody with an AR at anything except for close range becomes the subject of ridicule when you get to higher levels of play. That’s not precisions being OP, that’s the trade-off for using a weapon that takes more skill.
Saying “autos take skill” because you need to burst fire is just simply not true. Burst firing doesn’t take any kind of skill compared to effectively out-BRing somebody. The notion that out-ARing somebody when they’re using a BR takes skill is actually pretty hilarious.

beating a bad player with a poorly designed weapon isn’t an indicator of skill. as you move further up in skill and start finding players who are completely aware and know how to position, rotate and set up based on other peoples position then a short range weapon is all but useless as a primary weapon.
if you want ARs to be more effective it needs to be effective at the highest level of skill so that it scales across all levels of skill equally and doesn’t just fall off once players get good enough.
to do that you make it
more accurate
longer range that co-ordinates with map size and the rest of the sandbox
a slow enough rate of fire that you can control each bullet
projectile
with importance placed in that order
automatics take skill, it’s those factors which determine whether it will be or not and determine its effectiveness. look at quake, UT,gears of war or even tribes to see how they do things.
