I think that 343 should make Halo Wars 2 either in between Halo 5 and Halo 6 or after Halo 6. I personally didn’t like Halo Wars because, it was an RTS but, like many Halo fans I do enjoy FPS’s. I do believe that if 343 were to make a Halo Wars 2 that there is a way to make both FPS and RTS fans happy.
Campaign:
If you wanted to, you could play through the entire campaign as a FPS or RTS, without switching in between the two. That being said you will have the option to play a RTS, click on a unit and play as them in first person. Whether it be a tank, hornet, marine, ODST, spartan, mac cannon, frigate pilot, ect. Just because you are playing in 1st person doesn’t mean that you won’t have control on the battlefield. While playing in 1st person, regardless of what unit you play as, you will be a commander or possibly your commands could be issued by an AI (although it would still be you giving the commands). While playing in 1st person you have the ability to tell EVERY unit where to take cover, what objectives to take, whether to fall back or regroup, whether to attack or stay hidden and wait for reinforcements, ect.
Multiplayer:
Considering that Halo 5 is supposed to be a “arena shooter” I doubt that there will be a big emphasis on large scale warfare (32v32), which is where Halo Wars 2 comes in. The main focus of multiplayer in Halo Wars 2 will specifically be large scale warfare. Since this version of Halo Wars 2 will accommodate both FPS and RTS fans it will have both types of multiplayer and a mix of both.Such as:
-Specifically RTS versus (without the ability to go into first person) (low player count)
-Specifically RTS versus (with the ability to go into first person) ( low play count)
-Specifically FPS versus ( basically next gen big team battle) ( high player count)
-Mixture of FPS and RTS ( basically battlefield commander mode Halo style) ( high player count)
This a bit off topic but :
-SPACE BATTLES- We could finally have large scale space battles like in Star Wars Battle Front.
-Extraction mode- Sort of like Gears of War over run mode. The planet or frigate you’re on has been infected by the flood and it’s you’re job to get the hell out of there. The flood’s main objective is to infect everybody and not get blown up .Half of the players will start out as low level flood forms and the other half as UNSC soldiers. Through out the game as time goes on players will get the ability to upgrade there characters with weapons, equipment, abilities, higher forms, ect (humans and flood alike). The UNSC soldiers will start out in a base and the flood will start outside of it. Some smaller flood forms can sneak in through vents and grates in order to infiltrate the base. If a human gets infected they become a low level flood form. Humans can seal doors with torches and it takes explosive or bigger flood forms to open them back up. Humans have to venture out of the home base in order to find parts to fix their ships, after so many rounds more parts become available, so you can’t just pick up all of the parts in five minutes. The humans will also have a optional objective to find the parts of a bomb to blow up the base after they depart, if the humans do this they get bonus points after departure. The departure will have a cut scene sort of like Titan Fall so there is not just a pause when the game ends. I would expect these games to last at most around an hour, not like your standard infection game. This game will also be playable with just one player or half of the player capacity, all of the unfilled spots will be filled by highly intelligent AI.
-Evolve thinks they’re all big and bad with 1v4. In another variant of the extraction mode it’s 1v32 with one player playing as a grave mind in RTS mode and the other team as 32 first person players or marines.
Back to multiplayer as a whole:
Obviously in the multiplayer there will be factions, you will either play as or with the UNSC, Covenant, Flood or Prometheans depending on how much work 343 wants to do. As the game goes on you can upgrade your units or player depending if you are playing strictly FPS or RTS. In the battle commander mode, commanders can upgrade units with shield modules, abilities, weapons, vehicles, ect, if they show promise on the battlefield. There could even be additional AI’s on the battlefield (not including the unfilled lobby spots) to up the scale of the battle. We could also be able to drop from frigates in ODST pods after you resupply or respawn finally.
These are just a few thoughts, if you have any cool ideas that you think would make a good Halo Wars 2 FPS/RTS post em below.
