Had they just done an official reboot, those who feel alienated by the current changes would have nothing to be upset about.
I believe the reason that most people are upset, myself included, is an sense of betrayal. For the people that have been playing since CE, and helped in the success of the franchise with our time/money/feedback, it’s upsetting to see the franchise do an almost 180.
Some will scream, “Play the Master Chief Collection!”. My response is simply, I will if it ever gets fixed and I hope it does.
It will be interesting to see what changes go into Halo 5 when it releases. I hope that most people will at least hold-off on pre-ordering and just pick it up on release day. Then make an informed decision on whether you would like to support Halo moving in this direction.
For those who will inevitably respond this with, “This is the new Halo, deal with it”. As an adult who chooses how my money is spent, I never have to deal with purchasing any product that I don’t deem worthy of my money. I have kept my copy of MCC in a show of good faith to 343, and I hope they actually fix it. If they don’t fix the game I’ve already purchased from them I won’t buy Halo 5 anyways.
They should still be upset about it, official reboot or not. Check the DmC incident.
So by adding a word into the title and when you are talking about the game throwing in a sentence or two here or there makes it ok to change it?
No matter what they do people would be mad and they feel betrayed because they are scared of what 343i is going to do to halo. I think what they are doing and as a fellow adult, deal with it because I will spend my money on this game like I did with every single halo before it, Why? because I enjoy playing it.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m sure there would still be some bitterness. At least people would expect larger changes with a reboot. Otherwise you expect iterative changes, but honeslty Halo 4/5 could be a new IP.
On another note, as someone who never got into DmC, I really enoyed the new one. (Don’t tell anyone)

You can’t say you will like this game because you liked every Halo before. That’s blind loyalty and the opposite of what an adult would do. My respect is earned, and 343 haven’t earned it yet.
