Bungie was about to destroy Halo with Halo 3. Halo 3 was nowhere near as good as it should have been but that’s behind us now.
Despite what people keep moaning about on the internet, 343 made Halo what it should have been. They went deep into the emotions connected between characters and highlighted Master Chief more then ever in Halo 4.
The environment is spectacularly polished. When you’re playing, just stand there and check out the scenery once and a while. They clearly put a lot of time in perfecting the Halo universe and in my opinion, they did it flawlessly.
The soundtrack, although no as Halo-esque as the other games, is well done for what 343 is trying to portray. Like I said, the story for Halo 4 is more emotionally connected and character shining then the other games, by far. Sure, there is your typical run around and kill everything, however, there is a clear reason for it and Cortana made the firefight scenes that much more stressful and interactive.
We should all give huge props to 343, whether you agree or not that this either made or broke the Halo series. They put a lot of effort into making this game as good as it could have been. We should all be grateful that this series didn’t fall into impending doom, like most game series do (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, CoD, Battlefield, etc etc). Although, I do believe Bungie was ruining Halo, it has now been revived.
I can’t wait for Halo 5 but (without spoilers) the ending of Halo 4 will make me really think about how they will design it. Great job to 343 for making a ridiculously good game revival and one of the best game series of all time.
from what you have said here i don’t think you have played halo since the beginning, the first initial 3 games were incredible. reach was awful and so was halo 4, at least story wise.
Graphics were amazing.
Matchmaking seems to be improved.
firefights improved.
ect…
story was awful, i could not even follow it. why were the covenant at war with us again?
whats this about ancient humans?
Librarian wtf?
now cortanas gone. which is fine i guess… you cant have a halo game with out cortana though…
i could go on and on, that the main thing is that the story wasn’t smooth or coherent.
I agree with smitty, you clearly did not play all the games in the series, or at least don’t remember/was too young to understand everything going on in the story. Halo 1, 2, and 3 were all amazing. I believe 3 came out in 2007, yet I still played it even after reach came out. Not to mention that Halo 3 still had enough players online just before 4 came out that the servers were still up. So I think that saying Halo 3 was destroying Halo you would be disagreeing with a large majority who think Halo 3 was the biggest success of Bungie.
Halo: Reach, if I had to say anything was destroying Halo, that would be it. Not that it was a bad game, I just felt the story was not that great, with very archetypal characters, and the multiplayer was poorly balanced.
Halo 4 is an amazing game in my opinion, but saying that it saved Halo from bungie is just stupid
Reach was terrible, i felt the campaign was nothing to be happy about. It just wasnt…halo.
As for halo 4’s campaign. Yes, the scenery was fantastic. The AI was good. Technically it was a good campaign. But there was just so much happening at once. There was a lot of information to take in and not a lot of time to do it in.
You phase out during quarter of a cutscene and you’re left thinking “Who the -Yoink- is that guy?” for like 2 missions.
I enjoy the multiplayer though. It feels inbetween 3 and reach, but it’s far closer to 3. Whether it’ll have the same repeatability that halo 3 had (I pushed around 9100 games, compared to 900 on reach) we’ll soon see.
The reason why I believe that Halo 3 was awful was because of the clear lack of heart and hard work like the others before it. It’s almost like everything down-graded immensely. I’m talking about the campaign, I really don’t like Halo’s multiplayer after Halo 2 and the only thing I really play is Team Swat anyway.
I mean, look at the last missions of Halo 3. Instead of including an epic ending to wrap it all up dramatically, they make you ride through stupid collapsing plates with like zero challenge in a boring and bleak atmosphere. It didn’t look good, it wasn’t fun and it certainly didn’t have any impressive relevance.
Now, you might disagree with me and that’s fine but whether I liked Halo 3 or not is besides the point.
343 did a good job with Halo 4. I agree that the story was kind of shakey and slightly confusing but it certainly wasn’t so confusing to where I had absolutely no idea what was going on. They could have elaborated on the characters a little more, like the librarian because you only seen her once and that was like it…but either way, it wasn’t so bad where I was like “wadda fak is going on.”
Anyways, I’ll come back to Halo 4 when Team Swat is in. Can’t stand the stupid shield noob play.

They did hard work in halo 3.And is Halo 4 Space scene lot different from Halo 3 warhog scene.I enjoy more driving then flying space ship.I have to say Troll in this one.
In my honest opinion im not trolling or anything i think 343 are ruining the story and lore. I think halo 4 has the worst campaign out of all the main titles.
343 did save Halo, i thought it was going to be ruined. This was just what the series needed, and Bungie was ready to move on to something new.
Keep in mind, many people at 343 used to be with Bungie.
Ive played every Halo game a TON, Halo 4 has been a huge step in the right direction. Just a few things need tweaking, which i think a Public beta would have fixed early on!
However, i will move to Black Ops II while i wait for SWAT and Team Snipers playlists…

Best Comment Ever!!
On-Topic, I have played and loved every single Halo game that has come out. Though Reach held my interest for the least amount of time after launch, I still went back to it every few weeks for strecthes. I think every game has done somethings a little bit differently then the games before it. Sometimes these things were done less successfully than others (looking at you, reach bloom) but I have always been able to adapt and still get enjoyment out of the game.
For me, Halo has always been about the “30 seconds of fun” that happens over and over, and all of the changes that have been made never fundamentally changed that for me. I was worried that H4 was becoming too much like COD, but after actually playing it, I can safely say that I feel things were implemented in a subtle way that fits in with the universe and it, again, does not fundamentally change the way I play the game.

The reason you don’t know who the charicters are is because you havn’t read the Greg Bear or Karren Travis novels.
I do feel that 343 went a little overboard with the book references, expecting every player to know who the charicters are.
But for a casual Halo player, probably like yourself, you would feel dropped in to a story half way through.
I’m kind of on the fence with this one.
A) 343 are alienating and confusing the new and casual player with the complicated story. But…
B) I’m totaly loving the fact that stories are connected and follow through from the books, and everything matters.
> story was awful, i could not even follow it. why were the covenant at war with us again?
Not all Elites support the Arbiter’s campaign for peace with Humanity. A lot of them still resent and despise Humans. After 30 years of war, it’s not that easy to create a stable peace between both sides. (this topic is also explained in Glasslands and Thursday War).
> whats this about ancient humans?
For people who haven’t read the Forerunner books, it’s explained in the Terminals and during the scene with the Librarian and Chief. Humans were an advanced race 100,000 years ago, but lost the war against Forerunners (from being weakened from their war with the Flood). And as punishment, Humans were dissolved into a primitive state (stone age/caveman).
> Librarian wtf?
She and the Didact are also expanded on in the Terminals, also good for those who didn’t read the books. (also in the Terminals in Halo 3, Librarian and Didact are represented as L and D)

Frank O’connor said on more than one occasion that players did not need to read ANY of books to understand the story for Halo 4. I think 343 failed to elaborate properly on what was going on with certain things in Halo 4.
I have enjoyed all the Halo games. I mean all of them, CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST and Reach. While Reach’s story was not the grand epic the first three Halo’s were, I think it held it’s own. I have all the Halo books and I have read all of them at least twice.
Making A new trilogy means you need to make new stuff. The Human Covenant war is over. The Covenant you fight in Halo 4 are a religious splinter group. Cortana says this in game. Pay attention to the story before you complain about it. I am glad to see that this series will focus on the forerunenrs and their lore in the way that the first three focused on the Covenant. New game, new trilogy, new story.
I think Halo 4 has the best campaign out of them all.
The story isn’t that difficult to follow. EVERY one and thing you see/hear in the story is addressed by some other part of Halo canon. The main problem with the campaign is that not enough of the information is given in the game alone. Some info is in the books, some in the web series, terminals, etc. So it can be disjointed for someone coming in right from Halo 3.
343 killed halo for me. im done with this series. Its gone completely downhill after halo 3. its pathetic to see how the multiplayer has drastically changed from the halo 2/3 days. No skill involved anymore, all to cater to the casual crowd and sell more copies
What makes you think that Halo 4 killed the multiplayer?
It’s literally the same exact thing with some minor adjustments. I mean, it’s obvious 343 was trying to put in some of their own flavor to make it different then the other games. It really feels like the same exact thing to me.
