“Let’s talk about cheating!
Unfortunately, cheating is a natural part of supporting a F2P PC game and it’s one we anticipated. It’ll never go away entirely, but we’re prepared and committed to releasing consistent improvements to our game’s systems and taking action on bad actors.“ -Unyshek
I mean, what do you want them to say? What else can they do? Report systems are generally useless. People get reported for cheating when they’re just playing well by salty opponents more than actual cheaters get reported. It becomes a big dump of useless reports which results in nobody reading the reports.
I have yet to experience a cheater in my 40 hours of play though.
I have actually ran into a cheater in ranked and had to double check in theatre to see if I was just imagining it but the person was legit snapping to heads and watching players move through the walls, so cheating does exist in this game, now whether or not the anti-cheat will be able to keep up is another story. I really do hope 343 can lock down this game before cheating gets out of hand otherwise we just see hackusations thrown left and right and the general confidence in the game’s security will always be called into question.
The issue with F2P cheaters is this the free part.
Ban one account and they make another one.
I don’t like Destiny PvP, but they do have a system for ranked where you need to buy the latest season to have access to it.
If they have to slap down $10 to cheat in ranked on each account that would go a long way.
No idea how this could be applied to social playlists.
Like I said I know they exist, but they don’t seem to be abundant. Also, I’m sure they’re already patching in counter-measures for existing cheats. It’s always a back and forth. There will always be cheaters finding new ways to cheat as long as people will pay for it (sad).
And unfortunately this game is F2P so just banning someone for cheating isn’t going to really do anything since they can just make a new account and get right back in, I don’t want to say hardware bans or kernel level anti-cheat is the play but something needs to be figured out to mitigate cheating as much as possible.
the simple and easy solution I see is to make the requirements to play Ranked/Comp higher. It could be you have to play X matches in quickplay first, or it could be just based on how long you’ve had the game, something like that. Obviously, you could still just go out and cheat in quickplay, but basically isn’t as impactful as quickplay isn’t as competitive or as serious.
I personally think they should just throw hackers into lobbies with other hackers, you know, let them sort it out, but whatever.
I just hope that 343i will put in FairFight or Punkbuster for Anti- Hacking software. Neither one is 100% but I like Pubkbuster But PunkBuster will “BAN” a person on for hacks and it will show you in the chat area who was banned “NOT KICKED” and the name of the cheat that was used. Not banning people for for using hacks is really stupid.
Allow us to disable crossplay because I have no faith in their ability to tackle cheating when they claim they’re prepared yet the game launched with no in-game report function and probably won’t have this functionality for months if not years.
